Best way to leverage a purchased domain?
Our company offers a subscription-based service, and we have the opportunity to buy the domain of a former competitor that has gone out of business. The domain has a Google page rank of 5, and an Alexa rank of ~375,000. The domain was registered in 1994, has about 50 other sites that link in to it, and it has fairly good natural placement in Google and other search engines for a number of relevant keywords. We're told that the site gets about 100 unique visitors/day with no advertising (but we've not confirmed this yet).
We do not want to run a whole new site and different brand of our service under this domain. But, if we decide to buy the domain, what would be the best way to leverage the domain, from an SEO perspective, to drive traffic to our site? Simply do a 301 or 302 apache redirect of the entire domain to our site? A one-page site that simply says "xxxxx is now yyyyy, you will now be redirected..." with a javascript redirect and/or link to our site? Or, a small site with a few pages of information, and a 'subscribe' link that links to our site?
2 AnswersSearch Engine Optimization10 years agoQuestion for Attorneys or Paralegals who use PACER?
Do you find that you are constantly logging into PACER and repeating the same steps over and over again to check on the status of a case? If so, would it be helpful if there was a service that alerted you (by email) when there has been new activity on a case?

I have a Dell computer that has a Microsoft Windows XP Pro COA sticker. The computer has a blown motherboard. If I replace the momma board, will I then be able to re-install XP Pro using the code off of the COA sticker? Or, is the COA keyed to the BIOS of the motherboard?
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoDNS Question / Zone Files?
Take a domain name, like ABCDE.com, for example.
Is there a way to find all of the machine names that are setup in this domain, such as: www.ABCDE.com, mail.ABCDE.com, server1.ABCDE.com, server2.ABCDE.com, etc? Is this information in the zone file that domain? If so, how can you download the zone file for the domain?
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoNAT Router / Security?
Suppose I have a NAT router that has a public IP address, and a computer behind the NAT router, with a local (private) IP address, such as 192.168.x.x.
Assuming:
1) That I am not doing any port-forwarding on the NAT Router
2) That the computer behind the NAT router never makes any connections to any outside IP addresses
Then - Is there any possible way that this computer could be attacked from the outside?

And I pass an electric current from a cathode to an anode through the compound. Will the compound separate into components? If so, what will the components be, and which component will be at which electrode?

7 AnswersOther - Dining Out1 decade agoSolar Heating in the Northeast?
Does anyone living in the Northeastern part of the US have experience with solar heating? I live in Eastern Pennsylvania and my house has oil/hot water heat. With oil approaching $150/barrel, I'm thinking of solar options for supplimenting my heating system.
If you've installed a solar system, I'd be interested in learning from your experience, particularly - what type of system you used, how effective it is, how much the initial investment was, and how much you saved.
2 AnswersGreen Living1 decade agoPerl - Regular Expressions - $value =~ s/~!/ ~!/g;?
This line is from the classic formmail.cgi script:
$value =~ s/~!/ ~!/g;
It's to stop people from using subshells. But, does anyone know what this line is actually doing and how it's doing it?
Thanks.
