  • Rents home with city code violations, etc?

I have been living in my current residence for over 2 years and earlier this year after an inspection it was determined that there are 18 city code violations. This was due to be fixed in June but no one ever did. The owner of the house decided to put it up for sale and cancelled his contract with the leasing company which managed the house. Now it is being taken care of by a different company who is claiming that they will begin doing repairs so but so far nothing. I asked for a reduction in rent due to this and was denied. Living alone is pretty tough to take care of the bills, and come to find out I now have new room mates- squirrels! Since there is a walnut tree in my backyard these animals have found a way into the house and are chewing up the walls and doing who knows what other kind of damage. This is becoming a real problem since I cannot move right now due to costs etc. I don't think that this is a healthy environment for me and my pets. I am considering stopping payments on rent until these major problems are taken care of entirely. Is this wise and legally possible? I do not want to get evicted but I also do not want to pay for a house that's in is condition!

  • Rented house now for sale?

I have rented a house from a company for two years. We signed the lease for another this March. There was an inspection during which a company employee was present. We afterwards received a notice from the city for 18 code violations that needed to be fixed by June. So far nothing has been fixed by the company. A for sale sign was installed in front of the house today. I'm confuse and wondering what this is about. called the rental company and left a message Bt still Waiting for a call back. Anyone have idea what to expect?

  • Travel Documentation for Permanent US Resident?

I have been a permanent resident since I was a kid (16 yrs). I never acquired a US passport due to costs. Now I have an opportunity for a quick trip (5 days) for work to Europe. I was advised to get a US passport or a Travel Document. I applied for the passport but probably will not get it in time since I need it by December.

Well, I was advised my family to get a Travel document since they did this years ago. I do not have any valid passport as my old one is expired. I contacted the USCIS agency and was advised by one of their agents that I DO NOT need anything but a valid greencard to travel. I asked him multiple times if he's sure and to reconfirm. He said plain and clear that I do not need any type of passport and travel documents are for people who are traveling for longer than a year.

He's a government employee so I am guessing that he's not lying to me...

Can I trust him and just show up to the airport with my greencard ready to go? Or will I have major problems?

  • Need Serious Advice About a Friend Situation...?

I have a friend (I guess), whom I went to hs with yrs ago but did not associate with till after hs, all through mutual friends. As soon as we met there was an immediate connection - we just had a lot in common and got along well. I knew he had a crush on me back in the day, but for about 2 yrs that we hung out absolutely nothing happened at all though there were countless opportunities. I was (and still am) in a long-term relationship.

Something happened that caused him to move out of state 3 yrs ago. He now lives about 12hrs away (different state). He decided to visit recently (this past weekend) just for a few days. We had talked for days prior to this, made minor plans to hang out with mutual friends. We were both (seemingly) hoping to making it a fun night like we used to have back in the day 3 yrs ago.

Well, he apparently showed up, hung out with one of his best guy friends, was apparently here for the entire weekend but never even bothered to call, txt, or contact me in any way whatsoever. I am beyond hurt and frustrated because I simply do not know why. I have also noticed that he has been avoiding me (via fbook, the only way we contact each other). I have resisted the urge to message him and ask why he is suddenly avoiding me. I know for a fact that I never did or said anything to offend him. I am just very, very confused and beyond hurt...

Anyone have ANY idea why he would act this way?

BTW, others have suggested that he has a gf... I know for a fact that he does not (he has made the claims quite public on Fbook) and I am not interested in him *that* way anyway... we were just really great friends (or so I thought), and I have missed him greatly. Would appreciate input on this situation.

  • Dell laptop purchased @ Best Buy...HUGE issues!! UGH!?

So I purchased a Dell laptop from Best Buy a little over year ago (about 1yr 4 mo ago). The first time I had to get it cleaned (the keyboard) because I have pets and hair gets stuck under the keys. A couple of keys broke off - took it to BB and they sent it to Dell and got it fixed for free because I had a warranty. I also purchased the Dell 1yr warranty as well as the BB 2 yr warranty with the laptop. The second time I dropped the laptop by accident and the charger would not work anymore. Had to get it sent to Dell again, though this time I had to pay for the repairs because my Dell warranty had expired and supposedly, according to BB, their warranty does not cover "accidental damages" (ie. the laptop being dropped and such). Ok, whatever... I paid $265 to get this issue fixed. Well, it's only been a few months since I got it fixed, and the charger does not work again! When I plug it in, the cable is wobbly, and basically only charges the battery when I put the laptop at a certain angle. I did NOT drop the laptop this time or do anything that would cause additional damages.

I want to take it in again to get it fixed (for the third time!) But absolutely CANNOT afford another $200+ that it may require to get this thing fixed again... seeing that the issue is probably the same. BB warranty SUCKS! I am wondering if I take it in, will they fix it for free (I have about 8 months or so left till this warranty expires).

  • Facebook people search (specific name)?

So I had a friend back in the day with whom I was also friends on Facebook. We had a falling out and he decided to delete/block me on FB. After a certain amount of time I noticed that he was appearing on mutual friends' walls/friend lists again. So I assumed that he unblocked me. But now when I put his name into the people search nothing comes up, yet I can still see him on other people's friend lists as well as his wall comments on their pages.

Why is this? Just wondering and found it kind of strange. I thought that when you block someone that you are unable to see any content involving their name on FB... but maybe not?

  • Credit Card Question...kind of long.?

So I am 25 yrs old. My parents have taught me never to owe money or get credit cards. Bad, I know. So I have never had a credit card and in reality don't even know what it means to have one! I guess I have no credit since I have never paid for anything that way or even attempted to get a card. I have an account with 5/3 bank and I make all my purchases and make rent payments etc with my debit card. Would it be smart for me to go to the band and open up a Secured Master Card with them to build credit? Also, how does this work anyway?

  • Two-Tone Hair Coloring?

I've had platinum blonde hair for a while now. I used to get it done professionally but I decided to save LOTS of money by doing it myself at home and I haven't had an problems at all.

A lot of people have been telling me to dye my hair recently because I guess they're sick of the blonde, haha.

I am thinking about dyeing the bottom part of my hair a darker color. I went to Sally's today and bought a demi-permanent color on a whim. I got a "Light Neutral Brown" shade (which I think looks more like a neutral medium brown, but whatever).

I am wondering how the color is going to turn out on top of my very light blonde.

I have never used a demi-permanent dye so I am wondering if I should worry about it being too dark or washing out too quickly and whatnot. (I am planning on doing a strand test, of course).

    Any tips are greatly appreciated.

  • Planned Parenthood Appointment...?

So I think that I may have HPV and was looking into getting tested/treated very soon. I called a local Planned Parenthood clinic whose website states that they test/treat patients for HPV and other various STIs. Well, according to the receptionist they do not offer testing or treatment for HPV other than a pap smear, but she basically acted like I probably don't need one (even though I've never had one and I'm 24) and that I should call the health department. She said that the health department probably wouldn't test for HPV but do test for other STIs.

So I called the local health department and set up an appointment for STI testing only to later find out that they do not offer HPV testing or treatment and that they only offer referrals (so much for setting an appointment).

I don't have health insurance and I can't really afford to just go see a doctor and pay for testing/treatment out of pocket!

Anyone have any ideas on what I should do next?

  • Kohl's Return Policy?

I bought a pair of boots at Kohl's about a month and a half ago. I don't really like them anymore - never wore them. They are still in the box, brand new, and I have the receipt so I want to return them. I was wondering about their return policy - can you return an item at a different location or do you have to bring it back to the same location where the item was purchased?

  • Dress Boots for Work?!?

I work at a tux shop so I have to dress semi-formal for my job. My co-workers and I typically wear ballet flats with dress pants since they're light and comfortable. Well, the weather is getting colder and it's only a matter of time before it starts to rain/snow so ballet flats are out of the question.

I have been looking for cute, affordable, ankle/mid-calf boots with a small heel that will fit underneath dress pants.

I have looked at pretty much all stores and websites I can think of (Baker's, Aldo, DSW, Macy's, Nordstrom, Zappos, Urban Outfitters, etc)... I have not been able to find very many styles that will actually look good with dress pants. Anyone know of any other store/website that has such boots that don't cost a fortune. Everything I find is $130+ and I am not willing to spend that much on one pair of boots for work!

    Thanks!

  • TMobile Prepaid Question?

I need to get a prepaid phone from TMobile for somebody. I am not sure how they work. I already have an old TMobile phone (the RIZR or whatever) but no SIM card. Could I just buy a prepaid SIM car from Tmobile online, put it in this phone, and activate online? Or do I have to buy a prepaid phone and activate it?

  • My Puppy REFUSES To Potty Train.?

I have an 8 month old Pomeranian puppy who absolutely refuses to be potty trained. I have had him for about 4 months now and nothing I have tried works. I have done research and tried everything I can but it is simply not working. He gets praised and rewarded when he goes outside, but that doesn't seem to register for him. He does not hold in his urine for longer then a couple of hours and he will go anywhere on the carpet at any time...a lot of times it's only a few drops, but regardless of any of it, he should know not to potty inside the house.

I live in an upstairs duplex so I understand that when he was a baby it was tough for him to ask to go outside due to the fact that he was not capable of climbing stairs by himself... but he is capable of doing so right now, he still refuses to hold it in/ask to go outside.

I am getting to the point where I am thinking that if rewards are not working, punishment might. I feel bad and know that punishing a puppy is not the best idea but I am basically out of ideas.

Also, I try to keep an eye on him as much as possible to make sure that he doesn't have accidents in the, but it still happens anyway be cause he does it so quickly that a lot of times I barely even notice till I see a stain on the carpet. I know that it is a good idea to take him outside if I see him attempting to go, but a lot of times it is too late and I figure there is no point to taking him outside if he's already done his business on the floor.

What can I possibly do? I am afraid that if he doesn't learn soon it won't ever happen.

  • Pomeranian Puppy Can't Walk?

I have a 5 month old Pom puppy. I've only had him for about a month and he was fine till yesterday. For some reason his hind leg wasn't functioning properly and he started falling over. I thought his leg just fell asleep since he was fine a few minutes later. This morning I tried to get him out of his crate to go outside and he did not want to come out. He was looking quite sad/sick and was shaking. I tried to get him to stand up but he kept falling over and walking very strangely. Next thing I know he had throw up on the floor. He has spent the rest of the day sleeping in his crate. I am very worried and don't know what to do/what is wrong with him. I am definitely taking him to the vet later this afternoon. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with him?

  • Equal Opportunity Employment - My Boss Discriminates!?

I have been working at a convenience store for the past 9 months. My job is terrible for a variety of reasons from sexual harassment to discrimination. The only reason I am working there is because I am having an extremely difficult time finding a different job.

Basically, my boss has been trying to hire two new employees for our store since we currently only have two and are in need of more help.

The manager (my boss) refuses to hire people of color (African Americans mainly). He also refuses to hire males - he only wants female employees because he believes that we attract more business. He also refuses to hire anyone over the age of 30 (approximately). He also sexually harasses my co-worker and me by commenting on our clothing, body image, and anything inappropriate that he should not be mentioning in the work place. There is not much we can do about that since we depend on this job for income.

I have known about this for a while but I am fed up and want to do something about it. How can I report this to somebody without my employer finding out that I was the one who filed a complaint? Who do I contact? I live in Michigan, if that helps.

  • T-Mobile Responsibility/Holder Switching?

When I got my first phone through T-Mobile I signed up in my dad's name since he was the one paying for the bill.

Well, now I want to transfer the phone to myself (in my name). I called T-Mobile and was told that my dad would have to call as he is the primary account holder and switch the cell phone to my name without problems. Well, he called yesterday and they asked him all kinds of crazy questions about me and basically in the end said that they can't switch the phone in my name because I don't have any credit history?????!!!!

Uh... I know a lot of people who don't have credit history yet still managed to get cell phones in their name.

I was told by a couple of people that it could be because the switch was attempted over the phone and that I should go to a T-Mobile location with him and do the switch there without problems.

Would that actually work? I really don't want to be forced to cancel my contract with them and pay all kinds of expensive fees just so I can re-open another account in my name.

  • Major iPod/iTunes mafunction... need help!!!!!?

Okay, so I have an iPod Nano (really old version, I don't even know which one but it doesn't matter anyway).

I had an iTunes library on my computer that contained approximately 600 songs. I recently had a computer virus problem which forced me to restore my system, which also made me lose my whole iTunes collection.

I had to reinstall iTunes on my computer. I also had a couple of bad quality songs on my iPod that I wanted replaced with new, high quality versions. Well, I re-downloaded better versions of the songs but now I can't replace them on my iPod! When I plug it in, iTunes asks me if I want to sync my iPod with the new library, which I do NOT because I only have two songs on it. I don't want to lose all the other songs that I have on my iPod because I simply don't have the time or patience to re-dowload everything.

What can I do? How can I get my iTunes library back on my computer... or how do I delete the couple of bad songs on my iPod and replace them with the new ones?

P.S. I tried doing the manual sync or whatever, but it doesn't work at all. In fact now when I plug my iPod into the computer it continues to say "Do not disconnect" even though nothing is happening.
