  • Rough estimate of how much it would it take to fix up this rental property?

Link is to a detailed pdf of what a home inspector took note of. I know contractors can be expensive, do you think it could cost more then 15-20k to repair it? Any tips or advice on this would be great, I'm 22 and this will be my first real estate purchase.

  • Ballpark estimate: How much would it cost to fix this?

The link below is to a pdf photo report I hired a home inspector to do, uploaded to google docs. I'm wondering what it would cost to hire a contractor to do most of this work, 10 grand? Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated because I'm 22 and this will be my first real estate purchase.

  • Homeland security background check personal interview?

hey I signed a contract for a rating that requires top secret clearance. im in DEP now but got a call yesterday from a 'special agent' in homeland security for a personal background check, hes coming to my house tomorrow morning.

whole thing seems weird, why didnt I get a heads up from my recruiter (he comes off a little incompetent so thats dismissabe) and wouldnt they need to do a background check BEFORE they gave me the contract for a top secret job?

  • Recruiter says pick 5 jobs - what if I don't get what I want?

So my first choice is air traffic controller AC because its a decent paying job once you go civilian. The problem is due to the economy the damn service is filled up so its basically "you take what you can get." I got a feeling I wont get the AC rating even with a 93 asvab score. Have any of you joined recently/know someone who joined? Did they (or not) receive the job they wanted? Also if you have any other ideas for decent paying jobs let me know. Right now all I have in mind is AC, so thats one out of five.

  • How do I choose a rating/job?

I scored a 93, I'm not sure what my line scores are. My first choice was Nuke in the Navy for monetary reasons but I didn't get in because I had a D in highschool. I really, really want to join the military for numerous reasons but I can't choose something I'll do for a minimum of 4 years. Other then Nuclear Propulsion is there a job that could translate to a decent amount of money if I decide to get out after 4 or so years? I've been thinking about electrician or maybe a helicopter mechanic?

Yo any input from folks that are IN or recently out would be really appreciated. I've been wracking my brain for weeks now and it turns out im really indecisive. I got one buddy whos a radioman on a sub and he tells me thats what I should do haha.

  • Completing my home theater?

The first option I was considering was a combo deal of the klipsch HD 500 with the yamaha RX-V567 receiver. I passed on this deal because of the lackluster stats on the speakers and the reflective plastic finish. The combo was $600.

The second option I've been looking at is the Onkyo S6300 which for 500 gives the most bang for my buck. 7 sats 1 sub 1 receiver. The receiver is excellent, 130w per channel 6ohm and another 200+w for the sub. The speakers are holding me back because of the terrible stats.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

The latest I'm looking at is the current special on Polk speakers.

Towers and a center. The matching sub was on sale but ran out of stock.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

Now I have to find a good receiver.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I want to go into the Navy's Nuclear Field. If theres a will theres a way?

i want to become an ET(N). I got a 93 on the asvab and missed the required score by 4 points, I think I can score higher if I take it again, I'm sure I can pass the required score if I take the NQFT (or whatever the nuclear qualifying test is called). They just got my transcripts and said I don't qualify because I got a d in algebra 1. Man am I doomed because I slacked off as a kid?

Can I go take a algebra course at a community college?

Those ET(n)'s make so much money...

Its without a doubt worth whatever school work I have to do to get there.

  • How to start a franchise such as mcdonalds in China?

I've recently won a small settlement and I'd like to make the money work for me. I know its not enough to even pay the initial fees of opening a mcdonalds in the U.S., which require about 1 million including land/recurring franchise fees/staff wages/royalty fees. But It might be possible to open one in China where the economy seems to be booming. Any suggestions as to where to start?

  • Mercedes E/C vs Lexus IS?

I like buying used cars because I hate the depreciation you feel as soon as you leave the lot.

I was test driving cars the other day and just on a whim I tried a trade in merc (c-class) they had on the lot and I'm really sad to say it blew the lexus experience out the water.

Now if I buy a lexus it would be the IS

If I get a merc it would most likely be E class possibly a C class for a sportier look.

The extra cost of maintaining a merc might be worth it, its a beautiful car!

In the end I know I'll be happy with whatever I get.

My q is to any owners is how is the reliability of the cars I listed?

  • How do I know where my money goes involving my lawyer?

Hi all. My case is being settled out of court after a motorcycle accident. I am getting a great amount of money but I'm thinking my lawyer might be shorting me about 20k.

    Heres the scenario.

Many months ago: he calls me and tells me my original bill from hospital is 145k he told me he got it reduced to 25k.

Now recently he told me total settlement amount is 400k.

Now he says that the insurance company talked to my hospital and now I'm going to get about 20k less than originally promised (by my lawyer)

(Lawyer gets 1/3rd but he says he fronted 10k so he's going to take that out too)

    Uh, weird.

How do I find out where the money goes from my insurance?

Like uh, How do I find out how much money from the settlement actually goes to the hospital?

Anything else I need to know?

  • Most Reliable 7.62 Semi Auto Rifle?

I'm completely new to home defense systems, this would be for Just In Case or a SHTF scenario.

Right now I'm leaning towards the AK system because from what I've been reading its the toughest mud gun there is.

Many say the HK systems like the MR762 or HK417 are worth the price but the msrp on that would be something that is several thousand dollars including sighting. Overpriced like a BMW.

I've started to look at the FN systems recently as well.

I plan to stay away from AR systems because of the maintenance and reliability issues I've been reading on. The two AR system owners I've talked to said personally they would prefer an H&K if they had the extra cash.

Thanks for your time and input.

  • Insurance Payout, Upfront vs Annuity?

I was in an accident last year, a doctor who had high coverage ran into me when i was on my motorcycle and I broke my femur. The hospital bill was 125,000. My lawyer called me today and wanted to know if I wanted an Annuity or upfront payout.

My question is, has anyone been in a similar situation?

    A) I'm wondering about how much I could get from insurance

    B) Annuity vs Upfront
