  • Translate to chinese + grammatical format and explanation?

This is an easy one, but I want the grammatical format for "When (something is happening), then I think it is (my position on the subject)."

For example, I would like to say, "When the leaves fall/are falling, then I think it is very beautiful."

Or, "When my mom cooks, I think she does a vary good job," or, "When I go to the zoo, I am very happy."

Please provide chinese characters and the explanation for each word you use for the sentence.

  • Too loosely stringed guitar?

Someone threw out a slightly disused guitar (very good condition, actually), so I adopted it and restrung it using a new pack of strings, the 3 lowest with metal and the 3 highest strings with plastic.

What I'd like to know if it's possible to string the guitar wrong, because when I pluck the Low E string, it vibrates and is very loose, and whenever I play the guitar, the sound the chord makes is very buzzy, muted, and ugly, unlike the crisp, clear, warm sound of other guitars.

    What should I do?

  • Louder Strumming for Ukulele- I use Electrical Tape on my Fingers- Will that damage the Uke/Is it okay?

I wrap a piece of black electrical tape around my fingers to achieve a louder, bolder and crisper sound, (and to keep my fingers from getting hard and scratched up, because I am an amateur and I tend to chunk or strum incorrectly)...

but I don't know if that it recommended, if it will damage the string or the uke, or if it's not proper for ukulele playing (It might detract from the sound it's supposed to make or something). Can somebody help me out? Should I continue this practice? Or should I just learn to strum bare-fingered?

  • Speedy Writing/Note Taking- Abbreviations/Shorthand/Symbols?

Are there any useful abbreviations or symbols that people often use to replace slightly longer words/useful words or symbols to replace something that takes time to write? Speedy note taking and writing is imperative to the survival of grades, so my note-taking methods will become much more efficient if I have shorthands/replacement words which are shorter/easier to write.

For example, if I were to write “hate", I’d write “h8" in my notes, and I always abbreviate any word that ends with -ation or -tion as tn: Hibernation::Hibernatn or Graduation::Graduatn or Demonstration: Demonstratn. I also replace "and" with &, number with #, “at” with @ and so on.

    Thanks!

  • Superglue is Hot- Exothermic... Acetate is Cold- Endothermic?

Superglue exudes heat in what’s called an exothermic reaction- but why does it?

And why does acetate seem cold? Is an endothermic reaction occuring? Why is it occuring?

I also superglued my fingers together and managed to get it off by using Acetate. Why is this possible?

Doesn’t like dissolve likes? And what happened when I put my superglued fingers in acetate? Can an endothermic reaction occur simultaneously with an exothermic reaction!?

    :D

    This superglue is interesting!

  • HSK is today! Do they use traditional characters?

I’m taking HSK level 1, Thresh-Hold version today, and because I went to a Taiwanese Chinese school, so they taught me correctly spoken Mandarin, but traditional characters. Will the HSK test have a traditional version? Or will I be screwed?

Also, what should I be studying?

  • Mandarin Chinese-Time indication: First/Then?

What is the correct and formal word that indicates “I eat breakfast. THEN, I play on the computer, and THEN I read books, and THEN I write and THEN blahblahblah” (In past tense)?

Preferably with pinyin or traditional character, and you don’t need to go through translating play on the computer, read books, etc, I just need the translation of “then”, and how it fits into a sentence.

I think ranhou is informal, as if to say, “Continuing on with the story”.

I google searched words for “then”-- are any of these the correct word?然後

    時

    接著

    便

    於是

    而後

    當年

  • Overvcaffeinated from one bottle of green tea?

Is it possible to get overcaffeinated from green tea?

I started to feel unusually fuzzy headed, sluggish, dizzy, (I’m describing a sort of feeling situated in the head that I’d think being drugged feels like) irritable, with strange breathing patterns and after the sluggishness, a great urge to exercise (Hyperness within the next 4 or 5 hours after drinking the tea).

Promptly after exercising, I feel okay now.

  • Perverted/Sexual Mentally Disabled Male...?

I go to a highschool, and recently, a male of limited mental capabilities has been following my friends and I (He mistook me as one of my friends (We’re asian...), and thusly I am easily just another girl that he likes). He’s very insensitive to personal space and comfort zones and politeness, and I understand that because of his condition he may not be able to fully consider social customs or how to maintain/create acceptable social interactions with others... I am a little bit intimidated, nervous, and a little scared that he might sexually harass one of my friends or me, but I don’t think it’s worth mentioning to a school authority figure (Is it?). He hasn’t really done anything serious.

But I’m wondering what the appropriate response is to this kind of situation and how I can deal with it politely, but still hold my ground and tell him off if need be.

  • Tips for drawing Manga correctly?

It’s got everything: The big, watery, highly reflective eyes, the small, nearly nonexistent nose, the hair that defies gravity and natural coloring, the mouth which makes an impossible, perfect triangle-- And yet it’s not right. It’s the butchery of Manga, and I admit: manga is truly an art- it takes skill to master! So why is it that it would always turn out to be something like this (this isn’t my work, but that’s what it’d look like...):

    http://browse.deviantart.com/manga/?order=24&offse...

    http://browse.deviantart.com/manga/?order=24&offse...

    http://browse.deviantart.com/manga/?order=24&offse...

    http://browse.deviantart.com/manga/?order=24&offse...

(There’s just something wrong with the above works! I’m not asking you to critique the above or list why they’re manga gone wrong, but I do want you to tell me what to do right and how to draw these people correctly! :D)

And also, is there a genre of anime where the eyes aren’t as big, and the characters have more reasonable proportions and appearances (What is it called! Let me know!)?

they look something like characters from Bleach or Death note, sometimes, even a bit more realistic than that.

Like... Less chibi? Less kawaii? (I’m not even using that word correctly.. ==;;) In general less shiny, cute, adorable-little-busty-girls? More of the believable characters?

Tips and tricks along the way to guide me to success?

  • Retaining Art Skills: From realistic to manga?

I’m becoming a little bit interested in drawing Manga, and I’m truly excited about learning a new genre of art.

However, I would like to retain my passion and skill with realistic drawings, and keep each genre of drawing to themselves (seeing as Manga is highly unproportional and creates all of their characters in an ideal light--Skinny, cute, big eyed, and willowy). Does anyone know if I can draw Manga as well as I can, yet retain the integrity of my realistic works without any of the Manga elements mixing in? I’m extremely worried that eventually, as I learn Manga, the realistic drawings will shift to become... tainted is bad worded, and so contaminated-- but influenced by Manga, and eventually becoming...er... impure?

I’d like to keep/begin both drawing skills, but have both of the COMPLETELY seperate identities/styles of drawing, completely unmixed. Has anyone been in my situation before? How I do love my shading and realistic drawing skills dearly! Would anyone have tips or answers to my situation?

(I don’t want my realistic drawings to have their eyes slowly bulge and shine, I don’t want my realistic figures to become too skinny and unbalanced, I don’t want my realistic figure’s hair to become wildly long or stick up strangely or defy gravity, nor do I want them to become strangely unproportional...)

    PS~

I acknowledge Manga as a true form of art, and it really does require aptitude to do it right yet I value the skill and technique that must be mastered in observational and realistic drawings (I know i have no say in this, because I’ve never drawn Manga, but I’m under the impression that realistic drawings are much harder than manga...)

  • YahooUser population: Liberal, Conservative, Democrat or Republican?

    Hello,

I’m wondering about the population of liberals, conservatives, democrats and republicans in the YahooUser domain. It’s known that the media tends to have a liberal bias, writing in a democrat(ic) point of view and supporting democratic views. When I’m reading a YahooArticle, I scroll through the commentsand look at the comments. I’m thinking, “there are an awful lot of democrats on here,” and when I do come upon a YahooComment that touts a republican point of view, it gets 80+ thumbs down.

    1. Are you democrat/republican? (I’m a democrat.)

    2. How much of the population do you think is republican/democrat/liberal/republican?

    3. Bonus: How stupid/intelligent do you think the YahooUsers are?

  • Why do people hate gays, and how do gay people feel about it(I'm not gay, so I wouldn't know)?

The hate that is exuded towards gays is unbearable, and though I wouldn't know myself (I'm not gay/lesbian, so I wouldn't know personally), I've heard a lot of hatred in their direction. What's so wrong about two people loving each other? What's so wrong about a different sexual preferences? What's so wrong about two people of the same gender being happy together? Don't people realize that this was how Hitler treated the Jews (Well, we haven't gotten that far into hating, because public deems persecution/murder of innocent people as socially unacceptable)?

When people say that two people of the same gender is "unnatural", and they base their evidence of off their bible, don't they realize that God directed Abraham to kill his own son? Isn't killing your own offspring wrong and unnatural? Dont' they realize that talking snakes are not more logical than love in a new perspective?

What's wrong, world? Why the hate? Why the phobia? It's not like they CHOOSE to be this way! You're going to persecute and criticise the way people are born? That's the same as blaming an Asian or African American for being Asian or African American for being that way. 1) they had no choice! 2) What's so wrong about being Asian or African American?

Gays, how do you feel!? Anti-Gay Extremists, I challenge you, show me where the "logic" behind this hate is!

  • Why do people "speelll lyke dis?@?!"?

Despite all of the efforts we have been putting into education, I'm wondering where the results are. Who are these people, who claim they are adults, yet type as if the don't know where to put capital letters, punctuation marks, and complete a sentence?

Doesn't this reflect badly upon their intelligence? It doesn't take much energy to make washington to Washington and CHEERRRY TRee to cherry tree. So why is it that these grammar errors persist?

  • What would you do if all humans except yourself disappeared?

I've always wondered what a person would do in such a scenario. Notice how I didn't make it so everyone on earth died (Because of complications that the corpse, decomposers/decomposition process, and disease from corpse would create). Also notice how I excluded animals from disappearance in this scenario.

After grieving, I think I might eat a pound of powdered sugar donuts, I'd probably begin painting the walls and making murals, spending all of my time reading, play (or try playing) all of the musical instruments, write stories, play with dogs all day, doing things I've never done before with no one to stop me. (Of course, this is secondary to establishing a safe home to shelter myself from the natural elements and carnivores, and making a smallish, sustainable farm, and taking care of the necessities.)

I'm wondering, what other people would do. What would you have on your list of things to do before you too vanish into old age and death?

  • Phishing-- I clicked the link-- Now what?

A phisher hacked my account one day, and has been sending e-mails to all of my loved ones and friends. I changed my password as soon as I could, but before, i clicked on the links that "I" have been sending. Nothing happened, but I'm still worried. Should I be concerned? I have McAfee and firewalls installed, but I'm concerned this isn't sufficient. I haven't entered any personal information or anything, but will anything happen at all because of clicking that link?

(The link actually brought me to a site selling viagra, which i'm a little concerned about...)

  • Mouse pointer component-- What is this called?

The small, blinking line that creates text when you click in a textbox-- What is that called? When you are just beginning to type something in, or you want to move this blinking-line object, you use this in order to start your text.

This component is actually no longer there on my computer. On YahooAnswers it is, but on a word document, it won't appear (So I have to guesstimate blindly where I have put theb mouse pointer text creator object, and if I happen to type in a wrong spot, must go back to type in the correct spot.)

    Thanks!

  • Understanding the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics!?

    Hello!

I'd like to gain a thorough and informational explanation on the second law of thermodynamics.

I read book about a girl who begins to lose her faith in God after learning about Darwin, though in the process she had to come to the reasoning of the Law of Thermodynamics. She finally came a realization that the law did not necessarily cancel out evolution.

I'd like to make the same breakthrough and gain an understanding to this law in order to defend evolution and still come to a logical conclusion (And, of course, from the knowledge I gain from this question, I'd become a more well rounded, educated person).

As a spirited Agnostic/Atheist/Scientist, I want serious and thoughtful answer(s). Thank you!

  • Atomic Radius and Ionization Energy?

Why is it that the atomic radius decreases as you move across a period?

Unfortunately, I'm aware that this question has been answered before on Yahoo answers, but I can't get rid of the logic that instead, the atomic radius should increase as you go along a period because of the accumulation of electrons. As you add more, and create the shells, should not the radius increase? Shouldn't it get bigger?

Additionally, why does ionization energy decrease from top to bottom of a group? Is it in relation to valence electrons/shells?
