What does bringing another contractor into this mean?
Here's a quick description of the situation as it stands right now:
Government Organization 'A' hires contractor 'B' to provide IT services. 'B' hired a placement agency 'C' to find someone to do occasional (once a quarter or so) IT work in support of that contract. 'C' put an add out on Monster, and I answered it, and eventually got the job. Now 'C' gets a cut from every one of my pay checks.
It's gone on for 6 months or so, and everyone at 'A' and 'B' is very satisfied with my performance. So much so, that they want me to do 'regular part time', which would mean about 20 hours a week of after-hours work, either on the weekdays or weekends. That hasn't been nailed down yet, and will be discussed at a meeting today at lunch.
The owner of company 'B' sends out an email announcing the meeting. He sends the email to several people, as well as saying who is going to attend. He mentions himself, me, the other guy that works for 'B' providing servicese to 'A', the guy at 'A' that oversees the contract, and some lady I've never heard of who's email address is @ contracting company 'D', which I've also never heard of. Internet research says she owns company 'D'. To my knowledge 'C' knows nothing about this.
My question is this. wtf does that mean? I mean, the meeting is today, so I'll know soon enough anyway, but i'm still curious if anyone can offer any perspetive.
1 AnswerSmall Business9 years agoWorking for manpower?
I know that if manpower places me with company A, there are rules concerning how and when that company can hire me directly (i.e., without paying manpower), but I can't remember whe I read them. if anyone can refresh my memory on those details, or better yet give a link to their actual policies , I'd appreciate it.
1 AnswerSingapore9 years agoMoving out of primary residence, and want to rent it out?
If I move out of my current primary residnence, and rent it out, am I legally obligated to bring it to my current lenders attention? I do currently live here, and did not acquire the loan with any intent to defraud anybody, but I'm also not keen on stirring up unnecessary trouble. I actually don't believe they even DO investment loans. Could they obligate me to go through the trouble of refinancing with another company or something like that?
1 AnswerRenting & Real Estate9 years agoInterest rates for a rental property?
I've been told that I can expect a higher interest rate when I buy a house to use as a rental property than I would if it were a primary residence. What sort of a difference are we talking? 1%? more? less?
Also ditto that for insurance. I can only assume that it would be more, but how MUCH more is the question.
3 AnswersRenting & Real Estate9 years agoHow can I make sure my baby goes back to breastmilk?
So my wife just spent a week in the hospital, and due to the pain amount and type of pain medication she was on, we had to switch our 6 week old to enfamil. Mommy's going to be able to breast feed again in a few days, and we want to switch him back... I gave him a few bottles of her milk we had freezed, and while he takes it just fine, it doesn't seem to satisfy him. On the formula, the most he had ever taken in one sitting was 4 or 5 ounces, and just now he took 4 of Mommy Milk, and another 2.5 of enfamil after...
So should we keep doing what we're doing, by trying to feed primarily on BM, and then 'topping off' with formula? or try to switch him cold-turkey or something? thoughts?
2 AnswersNewborn & Baby9 years agoGetting my wife to go to the doctor?
My wife is youngish (24 years old) and has suffered from varying degrees of back pain since her early teens. Ocasionally (once every few months) this can manifest itself as sharp, localized, debilitatingly intense flare ups that make it impossible for her to walk unaided. These usually occur somewhere from 3 to 6 hours after a period of light, routine housework (we're not talking moving bags of concrete here... washing dishes, vacuuming, etc... no heavy lifting). The few times I've been able to get her to go to the doctor, she's gotten little to no results (generally a perscription for some pain meds or something).
Since I am generally healthy enough to not need to deal with doctors, I don't know what to tell her, but clearly something needs to change. What we need to know is what we (or I) can do to fastrack her to an actual diagnosis. I don't want to get her a perscription, and I don't want some lengthy trial and error process, since she's liable to simply forget about either of those after the first month or two, and I woudl have hard time motivating her based simply on a "try this and see what happens" basis.
It's 2011 and I refuse to believe that something as 1) common and 2) severe as what my wife is experiencing should be a mystery. What do we need to do to get someone who knows wtf they're doing to look at her?
3 AnswersPain & Pain Management10 years agoAm I a douche for this?
So, I ask, what is it exactly that I should be ashamed of? I am quite certain that I should be ashamed of SOMETHING(S) about the situation... I just don't know what, exactly.
So... I'm traveling for work. I'm staying (for one night) in a nice hotel in an unfamiliar city. Having arrived earlier than expected, I shower, change into some nicer clothes, and head to the bar downstairs for some drinks. I'm not a big drinker, so it didn't take many to get a buzz. I'm also not fluent in bar etiquette, and I think I took someone's seat.
After two drinks, I was starting to feel a buzz and was happily browsing the internet on my Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (which is excellent, by the way) and found myself in mild conversation with the older (than me, I believe she said she's 41 or so, while I'm in my late 20s) woman next to me. She's also talking with the the guy on the other side of me (closer in age to her, than to me). It becomes apparent that we work in the same industry, and we both can tell that he makes a lot more money than me, but that I am well enough off that I can hold my own when it comes to paying for drinks, etc... (the hotel we're in is nice, but not THAT nice).
As I'm drinking my third drink, the woman (who is attractive enough) continues talking to me in an interested fashion, I mention my wife and our child-to-be a couple times, and everything is cool. Also the guy is interested/interesting enough that we talk a bit. Eventually she brings up the idea of going to a nearby bar that she knows about from a coworker. We (the other guy and I) both go along. I'm not entirely sure why I go, but part of it is, I think, because I don't usually go to bars, and since I'm travelling, I feel like stepping a bit out of my comfort zone.
We get there, talk, and have interesting conversation. She's from another country, and the guy and I are in the same industry, but very different jobs in that industry, so there is ample room for conversation, and it's fun. The other guy orders the first round. He also orders the cigars (I'm also not a cigar person, and know almost nothing about them, but the ones he orders are "okay", as far as I can tell). He also gets the 2nd round.
During all this, I get the distinct impression that I'm being a leech, but I'm both A) again, bad at bar etiquette, and B) starting to get pretty drunk by this point and I'm a bit of a lightweight, so I'm slower finishing my drinks than they are, which means that by the time I think it's time for another round, the dudes already gone off and bought them.
Also, I'm assuming at this point that the guy is trying to get in her pants, and I'm not (see: married, child on the way, bad with women anyway) so I kind of start backing out of the conversation with the idea that I'll just hang out until they're ready to go back, but they both seem to keep engaging me in conversation.
Then, because I'm a lightweight, haven't smoked a cigar in 3 years, and haven't had more than 3 drinks in a night in 2 years, I start to feel ill. I try to hide it for a while, but eventually it becomes obvious. They start saying it'd be a good idea to call a cab, and I go and do that... but by the time the cab comes, I have to go to the bathroom and hurl, leaving a half smoked cigar, and 2/3 full glass of Jack and Coke.
THEN, on the cab ride home, I'm on one side of the back seat, the chicks in the middle, and the guys on the other side... and she start rubbing on my thigh. Eventually it becomes much more obvious, and she even puts my hand on HER thigh (which I then rub, because... well... it felt nice).
FINALLY, after about 3 minutes of leg rubbing.... (I have no idea what, if anything, is going on on the other side of the car, as I'm busy looking out my window), we get to the hotel, and while I'm fumbling for my wallet (desperate to have paid for SOMETHING), she already has her money out and pays the cabbie... I get out the cab and stumble around to the other side... and quickly shake hands with the dude and, before she's out of the cab, act like I'm drunker than I am, and make a bit of a show of stumbling into the hotel, to the elevator, up to my floor, and into my room as fast as I can.
I did make of a point of shaking hands with the guy and, I hope, giving him the go-ahead to swoop in so hopefully they weren't both "disappointed" by the night or whatever...
So am I a douche? And why? Is it for taking some guys seat at the hotel bar, for even going to the hotel with those two while I'm married (with baby on the way), for letting the other dude buy all the booze/cigars and then leaving them half-consumed, for potentially c-blocking this guy, for throwing up and cutting short the night out, for "mutual leg rubbing" or whatever with this chick, letti
3 AnswersEtiquette10 years agoalter ("mark" or "color") packets in a .pcap file?
is there an easy to use/script windows tool that can parse a .pcap file and alter some flags or fields in the packets, and save the resulting packets to a new file? for instance, take a bunch of ICMP packets and flip some bits in the IP headers?
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoActive Duty Army EIN for New Mexico State Tax return?
my W2 is from DFAS Indianapolis, I believe... it doesn't list the state EIN because i'm not a NM resident, but HRBlock.com won't let me submit w/out that EIN (even though my military pay is deducted from our income in the return)
1 AnswerUnited States1 decade agoWho owns the poweshell scripts that i write to make my job easier? they're really good...?
At the very least id want to showcase them in interviews and such, and they're generic and modular enough I could probably apply them to my next job... My organization, the army, doesn't have any contracts or anything related to this, and if they do, I certainly never signed any... so is there any reason I can't keep copies (minus any sensitive info, of course)?
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agomy puppy is only 4 weeks old... what to do?
Save the lectures. Obviously I know that 4 weeks is too young to be away from the mother. I don't know the full story, but it's something along the lines of: the original owner (military) had to move out of state/possibly out of the country. Bottom line is they left five days ago, leaving the pups with a friend, and taking the mother. Friend doesn't have the ability to care for five pups, so yesterday my wife brings in the *surprise*. Suffice it to say that this was not my idea, and I know that It's not smart, but that battle has been lost.
However, none of that really matters. What matters is this cute little !@#!@ is now in our care, and I keep getting conflicting advice about how to care for him. Does anyone have any *real* advice on how best to care for this pup?
Specifically I need advice on the following:
Shots: I'm told that you can't/shouldn't do any before 8-9 weeks, but the internets tell me I should be shooting him up like Barry Bonds... ???
Feeding: We've got some Esbilac Step 2 formula. The pup was being bottle fed when we got him, so we tried to continue that, but it's frustrating to say the least... pup barely drinks any, and seems to spend half the time trying to eat the bottle itself. I tried him out on some formula in a bowl today and he seemed totally comfortable with it. Is there any reason not to just go that route?
Treats??? Obviously he can't have any real treats, on account of not being ready for solid foods, but I put some peanut butter on my finger and scraped it off on his teeth, and he seemed to like it... is this safe to use for basic training (nothing serious of course, just teaching him to stick close to me and stuff)? or will this screw with his digestive system?
Potty: he dribbles. I mean, he'll PEE, and that's cool, because we can generally arrange for that to be on a puppy pad, and accidents are bound to happen anyway, so whatever, but like... the dribbling is crazy. little tiny spots of pee he leaves everywhere, not to mention he's usually wet when I pick him up... Is this this just part of the deal with a 4 week old puppy, or should I be worried? Also, can i start trying to ACTUALLY potty-train him now? or should I not bother until he's 8 weeks or so?
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoI think I killed my lawn :'(?
My dog ripped apart my automatic sprinkler/drip system in my back yard, such that when it was time to water I would simply have a half a dozen jets of water spraying into the air like a really lame water show, so I turned the system off. I then forgot about the system and, instead of reprogramming it to keep watering my front yard, tried to water manually. That worked for a week and a half, and then I forgot. That was sometime in march or april, and now my front lawn is completely brown, except for some of the parts that catch mist from my neighbors.
I've just reprogrammed the sprinklers on an aggressive schedule, but I don't know if I need to seed, or miracle grow, or what, in addition to that. I have no idea what kind of grass I have (had), and know next to nothing about caring for a lawn.....
