  • how long are unused roofing shingles good for?

I have a shed that is in need of a new roof. When I bought my house 13 years ago there were several packages of unopened roofing shingles piled in the shed. I think I have enough to do the shed roof but my question is; after 13 years of being in a shed (out of the weather, piled neatly), are these roofing shingles still good to use?

  • Why am I getting flooded with calls from recruiters?

Back in the beginning of 2007 I was in the market for a new job. I worked with a lot of recruiters and was able to find a new job fairly quickly. I continued to receive calls from recruiters until about 2008 when the job market really went into the tank (luckily my current job has sustained since 2007). About 2008 calls from recruiters just stopped and I have not received any calls since then. I'm assuming this is due to the conditions of the job market. However, this year I am all of the sudden being flooded by calls from recruiters to see if I am looking for work. Started maybe 4 months ago. Could this be an indication that the job market is picking up? Are others getting calls as well?

  • Why is my dog barking all the time?

We got our dog when she was 3 months old. Obviously she barked a lot back then, but we got a trainer in to work on the barking, and other things. It worked great for about a year - no issues with the barking. Now she's a year and a half old and she's started barking all the time again - for no reason. Why would she just start up again like that? And how can we get her to stop without getting another trainer? She's a mix (rescue dog), but we know her mother was a soft coated wheaten terrier.

  • HIPAA/HITECH "covered entities"?

So, if a genealogy website decided to add functions that amount to a Medical Family History or a Medical Family Tree, would they be subject to upcoming HIPAA/HITECH regs? None of this information would flow to or from a health company and would be voluntary entered by the users.

  • Is it ok to ignore recruiters?

In 2007 I was laid off for 7 months. During that 7 months I searched for work myself and I used some recruiters. But basically, I didn't have any good experiences working with recruiters. I have now been back to work for over a year and want to start looking again. My resume is posted everyone and I'm getting inundated with job info from recruiters. Is it ok to just ignore these recruiters even if they're coming up with some jobs that interest me or will it hurt my job hunt (other than missing the job opportunities)? I just hated working with recruiters and I dread talking with them again. I'd rather go it alone and talk to companies directly. I'm a Business Analyst/IT Project Manager.

  • How do I keep squirrels and mice out of my engine?

How do I keep squirrels and mice from shackin' up in the engine compartment of my car? They bring with them acorns, leaves and sticks that smolder on the hot engine and they munch on the wires. I clean it up regularly but they just keep coming back.

  • Why does my chainsaw smoke?

I have a good chainsaw that is only a couple of years old and up until recently ran good. However, when I now use it, white smoke pours out of the chainsaw at the bar's base, and it does not cut good any more. I tried changing the chain, but it didn't fix the problem. Any idea what's wrong with it? Here's what I do know:

    1. The chain (which is almost new) is installed correctly (not backwards).

    2. There is plenty of bar oil in it.

  • What do you do with all your "bad" music?

A couple of years ago I digitized all my CDs. Now I have close to 20gigs of music. Of that, probably only 10% is worth listening to and is on my iPod. The rest of it is the junk that came with all the good songs on the CDs. So, what do you do with all the bad songs? Do you just delete them, or do you keep them "just in case" any one else wants to listen to them?

I own some stock and subscribe to email alerts for SEC filings. About a year ago I noticed that the company keeps filing "Statement of Changes of Beneficial Ownership" forms. What are these and why are they filing so many? They now probably file 12 or 16 of these every month.
