So I was wondering dose every package get inspected through the mail or only the suspicious looking one

How do packages in the mail get checked by law enforcement or customs

So I was just wondering if my brother sent me a birthday present through the mail from California to New Jersey would my package be checked and opened or would they not even pay attention to it and just send it to me the reason why I ask is because I don't want anyone messing with the package because it is very fragile

So I'm currently stuck on two paths to go down in law enforcement please help me choose the most realistic approach. My first idea is to join a local police department and be a cop for a few years then put apply to the DEA or ATF. My second path would be to move to baltimore apply to the police department and then work my way up into a plain clothes narcotics detective or a special unit. So out of those two which path should I take
