The Ark and its capicity

First of all i woiuld just like to say that God is supposed to be omnipotent. If he is capable of doing anything (after all he did just create a friciking universe), he could have easily waved his hand or batted an eye and made all the sinners instantly keel over and die or just disappear alltogether. But obiviously, the Christain God has to work in 'mysterious ways' and instead does nothing for about 100 years while Noah, a 500 year old man works out how the hell he is going to build an ark. According to Genesis, the ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high and is to be made form Gopherwood (whatever the heck that is). The Ark is to also contain three floors and have one door and one window, which must remain shut for the duration of the flood (probably so that God has a chance to clear away the millions of dead humans and animals floating around). What is quite confusing is that, although God gives Noah deatails regarding the size and asthethietic of the ark, he gives no indication as to how it is going to be built. Lets just remember that Noah is a peasant shepard and would have no idea how to construct such a monstrocity, and since God is all powerfu,l why didn't he just zap an ark into existence? Oh wait, he works in mysterious ways... my bad.

It allows rape, slavery, sexism and homophobia

Of all the absurd tales sprinkled liberally throughout the Bible, the one of Noah's Ark decidedly has to take the cake. Recently a Dutch building contractor named Johan Huibers decided he could best spread the message of Jesus Christ, not by helping the needy or feeding the sick, but by spending 20 years and close to 1.2 million US dollars reconstructing a half-scale replica of the world's most famous floating zoo.

Just when you thought the religious nuts had finally run out of pointless undertakings to consume what might otherwise be valuable time and money, some Dane decides his God of choice is best served by constructing a monstrosity of a mythical landmark.The funniest thing about this entire endeavor is that boat-makers, architects, engineers, and various other academics and scientists around the world have been pointing out for decades that a vessel of that size, comprised of those construction materials, not only wouldn't be able to float - let alone withstand an epic storm - but would probably be crushed by its own massive weight before the first drop of rain began to fall. Basically, it would just buckle in half. Enter Huibers, who, using modern tools instead of Noah's rock-and-chisel, and American cedar and Norwegian pine, rather than "gopher wood," (both much less dense) constructs a 1/2 size replica, which, as it turns out, can't float either. I hope the irony is not lost on you. Instead, it is transported on 5 barges welded together.

I am an atheist and despite it's ridiculous story-line I enjoyed the movie Noah...

im an atheist and loved the film, anyone else seen it? If so what is your religious/non-religious vieew of the movie?

"Salvation Boulevard" is a modern comedy based on the book of the same title by Larry Beinhart about Pastor Dan Day, a charismatic evangelical preacher (Pierce Brosnan) who has captivated a small western American town with his charm – and the promise of a sweet real estate development. Carl is a former follower – not of Christ, but of the Grateful Dead – who has since become "found" in Dan's Evangelical community, serving as one of the preacher's great examples of spiritual and moral transformation. But Carl's new belief system is turned upside down when he witnesses a sinful act (Pastor Dan accidentally shoots an atheist university professor, putting him in a coma) that Pastor Dan's doughy henchman aims to cover up. In the meantime, Carl finds himself on the run, torn between Honey, a security guard who still follows the Dead and partakes in those pleasures, and his militantly devout wife and her daughter, who is herself on the eve of taking a vow of sexual purity.

This is a secular society, so why are there people standing in the street, claiming Go has the answer

In my country you don't see street preachers who are Muslim, Jewish, atheist etc) so why are Christian preachers allowed to stand on our streets, shout at us and shove flyers in our hands?

Although I agreed with his points I think Fry may have been to harsh and 'out-there'

we do! We follow the rule of treat others how you would like to be treated.

We only need one rule, not ten

One minute its saying selling your daughter into slavery is okay, then your not allowed to wear clothes of two different fabrics and then it spirals into a story about a Jewish zombie.

Should children not be raised to form their own opinions and beliefs?
