  • In need of genuine opinion; will my driving record affect my job application?

I am applying to a pool company for chemical testing, cleaning, maintenance, and security. I am already currently working Summer Season for this company as a lifeguard but Winter Season employment requires the eligibility to hold a valid Driver's License, be able to drive a company truck with standard transmission, and release of driving records by the Department of Motorized Vehicles.

My situation is that I DO have a valid Driver's License; I CAN drive a standard transmission or manual gear shift.

However, two years ago, I have been ticketed for going 21 M.P.H. over the speed limit -- attended court and had the infraction dropped to what I think was a minor traffic violation of a 5 M.P.H. over ticket fine. (Because the police officer pulled me over at the feeder going upwards to the highway and I was speeding up to 70 M.P.H. (Speed limit of highway) The officer clocked me going 71 M.P.H. and thought I was still in the 50 M.P.H. section of the feeder. The judge ended the verdict with the notion that I was still speeding in the section between the feeder and the highway but not enough evidence to verify how far or close I was to the 50 M.P.H. zone.)

The job application is not for local law enforcement or a Federal Department job; it is a privately owned company but I am unsure if that specific driving infraction could severely affect my eligibility for the Winter Season employment. It is the ONLY infraction in my driving history.

    Any opinions? Thank you!

  • What is the best (dentist-approved) daily routine of oral hygiene?

I have never had any problems with my dentist -- no cavities, root canals, gum infection. I have had braces for the top and bottom row of teeth.

I want to maintain a solid routine of oral hygiene -- I heard of "Brush twice a day, floss twice a week" and "Brushing depends on your meal" and "Brush after every meal".

Currently, I brush twice a day with the occasional third brushing due to gritty/grainy teeth after eating a meal of some sort. My flossing is at about once a week or more. I don't want to overwork my teeth and mouth, but at the same time, I want the peak physical condition my oral hygiene can be at. Thank you for your insight!

  • My ex-girlfriend still contacts me through my parents (and others)? What can I do?

I broke up with her because she hit me, degraded me, humiliated me, etc. However, I moved on and went to college. Recently, she contacted my dad to ask if there was anyway that she could talk to me -- I blocked her number and ignored her email. Also, she has contacted my friends before asking about me.

I am sick of her constantly being in touch with me via friends or family -- it feels burdensome to deal that when my friends text me saying that my ex-girlfriend wants to talk to me... it's embarrassing. Should I go over to her house to confront her and lay it out that if she really needs to talk to me, she can contact me via phone or email? I would not like it, but I would rather deal with that than being hounded by my friends that she wants to talk to me.

  • What would be the best cell phone plan for me?

Here's the thing -- I'm hard of hearing and never use a cell phone or home phone for answering or making calls. My communication beyond talking in-person is through texting, emailing, and video chat -- emailing and video chat is what I do on my laptop on my own internet at home.

Bottom line is that I want a cell phone that suits me best financially in terms of having the lowest minutes in calling or making calls. Or the lowest cost. I do not use internet (rarely, rather use internet on computer or iPad with WiFi). I use the phone mainly for texting.

AT&T is my carrier as of now and I use an Andriod phone but the cost of Internet is too much for my low usage. I can switch to Sprint or Verizon if I have to. Thank you!

  • 2003 Honda CR-V battery/starting problem?

This is a 2003 Honda CR-V with a 2.4L engine. I am trying to start the car and get the engine running, but on when I insert and turn the key, the dash flickers the lights that are normally shown on start-up -- just more dim and flashes at random. When I turn the key to start it, the lights go away and there is no sound made (no start up, no ignition whatsoever).

I am not a car guy so please explain in layman terms as best as you can. I think it is an issue with the battery but maybe there is a problem with the alternator.

It is rather cold here, but not freezing. Earlier in the morning, I drove the car to run some errands and it started and ran just fine (like normal).

  • What do you think about what I am getting my girlfriend for her birthday?

I am getting her yellow tulips (her favorite), a necklace/charm symbolizing her zodiac sign (she's into that stuff) and the necklace will be intertwined with the tulips. A love jar with a picture of her and me on top among with notes inside about all the things that she is that make me happy and I will also bought her a scarf for the cold days we have in the winter.

Is that okay? I need a girl's opinion?

  • What to get my girlfriend with $30?

She's 19, in college -- I got her a sweater and flowers for Christmas but I got an additional $30 that I want to spend on a gift. I already took her out on a date to a park (we live in Texas) and we went out to eat today for breakfast.

Any item/gifts for $30 or under that is a good idea? She's a girly person, likes jewelry, clothing, and fun stuff.

  • If you use a toaster, how do you get the "unreachables"?

These pesky little baguettes, toasted searing hot to the touch of your too-big fingers trying to flick it out of the slot.

I always unplug the toaster and use wooden chopsticks. How do you get your toasty small breads out?

  • I have a disability and I struggle with math in college?

In high school, I made high marks on every class (including the three core classes; English, Science, and Social Studies) except for one core class, math. Roughly two of the four years in high schools, I have failed either one or two semesters of math (I had to take summer school with an extremely small student number in the class and an interpreter).

My disability is hearing-related -- I cannot hear more than half the words that a teacher says. When it comes to math (College Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry), I focus on the interpreter, but the interpreter either translate English words spoken by the teacher or points to board/overhead projection for the math statement presented by the teacher. I would estimate 75% of the time that the teacher is speaking, the interpreter is unable to translate "math language" into American Sign Language -- I am missing out a lot.

The solution to this is either:

    1. A one-on-one teacher to student lesson over the subject with full interpreter help and a clarified understanding of a word-by-word explanation of how to use math properly.

    2. The teacher knows sign language (at least, I think the teacher would be able to teach a hearing-loss student better than that of a teacher with no knowledge of sign language). This is somewhat feasible because I live in Texas and there is TSD (Texas School for the Deaf) and perhaps they have programs for deaf students trying to get their math credits for college.

Is there any other solution? I am struggling and I am feeling guilty about myself not being able to achieve better grades in math. Last year as a freshman, I made it out with a D, but to be honest, I think the teacher felt bad about me. I went way overboard with tutorial but that did not help me because there were still tons of students in the tutorial sessions. I need a teacher to be able to translate math into a word-by-word explanation on how to properly use math.

  • Need a reliable car; not necessarily Honda?

I had my experience with a 2003 Honda CR-V; there is constant starter problems every few month and it's time I get a different secondhand car. I used the CR-V for road trips, grocery shopping, getting around my neighborhood.

I want a car (sedan, not SUV/truck/minivan), basic features, rated highly in safety, has known/tested reliability, good gas mileage (4 cylinder), and parts are cheap if I have to fix it up, which I don't want to do frequently. I have a budget of $5,000 for a down payment -- I am hoping it covers 25% to 40% of the cost of a car. I can make monthly payments of no more than $300 per month, I am in good standing with my credit score.

Would like it to be newer than 2005 but I'm not picky as long as it will drive until the engine finally goes kersplatz at some five-hundred thousand odd number of miles. I change my own oil, transmission fluid, filters, and I am aware of very basic mechanic solution. (WHAT I MEAN is that I don't want it to ever go into the garage except for tire rotation/change)

  • Future house; should I build my own or purchase existing house?

I currently live in a two bedroom house with my wife and one child. We would like to invest in a larger home that will be substantial for several years of ownership -- more than likely the last home we will invest in.

We live in the panhandle of Texas, at rural backwoods a couple miles from neighboring towns. There are some houses being built, but prices seem high (competition, several buyers?).

Another important detail is that miles away from our home, also nestled in the rural backwoods, is a two and a half acres-size property that is completely paid for and under my ownership. Choosing to build there would have to require factoring in cost and labor of installing pipes, electricity, and other necessary equipments.

My wife and I have an account built directly for purchasing/building a home. This was an extremely long-term plan -- rather difficult to save up for, but we have a little over a hundred thousands saved up, plus stable income from both sides of our relationship. We can move into a cheaper, two-bedroom apartment for the time being to make sure income satisfies our purchases revolving buying a house or building one or anything outside of a new home.

I will need a contractor, but I am also a handyman; I have experience in building electrical systems (electrical engineer). I have built (albeit, a much smaller and less standardized form of housing) a garage, outhouse, and backyard shed; this is a big reason why I would like to partake in building a home.

Advice is welcome. Please inform me of any consequences and ideas about what is the best route for my family. I hope the above paragraphs are understandable for everyone on this forum. Thank you.

  • What are the consequences of fatally shooting an officer in your home?

What are the consequences of fatally shooting a police officer on your property (home) that does not have a search warrant, entered your place of residence without consent, and holds a gun (not taser) in his hand?

    Here are the circumstances:

    - Clearly asked officer four times, "Do you have a search warrant?"

    - Clearly spoke and implied that the police officer is not allowed to enter my house beyond the front door.

    - Police officer takes out gun, safety may or may not be on.

    - Have family in house.

    - No reason for police officer to enter home; "nothing to hide".

How will this case be processed in court?

  • The definition of theology; what is theology?

-The study of the nature of God and religious belief.

I'm just curious, is it a religion of it's own? Or a study of religious belief from an exterior perspective. Can a Catholic learn about theology or would s/he be considered a "Theologist"?

  • Should I talk to my boyfriend about this?

We've been together for a little over a year and he is a great guy. He talks a lot about having youthful and fun stuff, like pretending we are young and wild.

SO this valentine day, he got me PJs,a full body one that covers the toes too, and they are made for kids, just in adult size. They have the butt flap thing. I was a bit weirded out and I wanna know if this is okay?

    We are both 19.

  • Biological question about African-American/Black people?

In all seriousness, this is my question: what color/colors are an African-American/Black person's anus? With all due respect, this is out of curiousness concerning the biological anatomy of an African-American or Black person.

I understand that most white people have a pinkish/slightly darkened anus.

  • Isn't it important to understand government, especially in the United States?

When I say, "especially" I mean by the fact that I live here in the United States. I'm in college now studying healthcare, but I think it's very important to take classes in political science and government, just to be aware of our system. What classes should I take to make educated decisions and observations about the government?

  • What is your preferred room temperature?

I usually have mine set to 60 or 61 degrees (Fahrenheit) -- cold, I know, but it's so I fall asleep easier rather than overheating in bed and constantly tousling around.

What's your comfortable level of temperature in the bedroom or home?

I'm housed in a university, if that makes any difference. I don't have to pay for air conditioning. ;-)

  • What role does Matt Bomer play in White Collar?

I never seen the television series 'White Collar' but I was curious about what role does Matt Bomer play in it?

On Wikipedia, it stated that he was a con artist... What would that mean in his case in 'White Collar'?

    Thank you for your time.

  • Would an iPhone 4S 16GB be enough for me?

I am looking in getting an iPhone 4S; I don't like the iPhone 5's really sleek and tall design.

However, I am hard of hearing and do not listen to music. I will probably never add any of the music to the iPhone; I mainly want it for texting and FaceTime, use of Safari. I am prepared to pay for their data plan.

If I don't use music, that should be enough, right? I used to have an iPod Touch 4, but that spazzed out on me a few weeks ago (hence why I was interested in the iPhone). The iPod only had about ten or so apps.

  • How to stop diarrhea? What to eat?

This morning, I drank a lot of coffee -- it was a pretty high quality type -- and a couple of hours later, my stool is very watery. I am drinking to keep hydrated, but should I eat solids or get more fiber? What can help?

I appreciate your time and advice.
