Am I depressed?
I suppose the question should be "Do I suffer from depression?" but I know it's foolish to expect a true answer to that over the internet, so I'll leave it as the question in the title. I'm 23, a Master's student, living in student halls and I don't have much contact with people. I don't speak to my family on a regular basis, I don't have many friends and I tend to sleep the days away, often feeling disappointed that I couldn't sleep more. It's a strange feeling to describe, it's as if I've lost my grip on reality. I walk through life with utter indifference. I'm not suicidal, although I was for a brief period, but this, in some ways, is even worse because I don't feel anything. My room is a mess, the curtains remain closed most of the time, and I negelct my appearance- for a long time I put this down to laziness, but it's more than that. It's not sadness, it's not anger, it's just indifference. I couldn't feel further removed from my education, from life, than I do right now. I've tried visiting art galleries for some inspiration, I've tried clubbing with friends, but it all means nothing to me. What's happening to me? How do I overcome this? I can't get out of this slump no matter what I do. I thought I'd pose these questions here because maybe someone has or is going through something similar. Any help is much appreciated.
1 AnswerMental Health4 years agoAs a university lecturer, can one go from teaching one subject to another?
Hello, I'm planning on doing a PGCE next year and hopefully teaching the subject that I studied as a Bachelor's student and that is film. I'm currently working on my Master's degree which is under the same subject. My question is, could I teach other subjects, ideally English? Which can be considered to be very loosely related to film with the writing involved. Say if I pursue another Master's degree, part tiime whilst working as a film studies lecturer, in English, could I then teach that subject? It's not unusual for a person to hold two Master's degrees and I'd be willing to do another in order to teach English.
3 AnswersTeaching4 years agoWhat do you think the work out of WWE's Kane would've been like from 1997-2001?
Just in theory you understand because I've searched all over but couldn't find anything on his actual work out. Looking at him at that time, his arms looked to be a good 20+ inches, reminiscent of former strongman and arm wrestler Mangus Samuelsson in that they were huge, but not necessarily defined. Kane looked like he was good for a 100 kg curl, maybe more, having forearms that looked to be 17-18 inches to help him along with his huge upper arms. Huge shoulders also, capable of pressing out (with his very long arms mind you) a 260 lb Triple H virtually unassisted at the top with ease. He's stated himself that his best bench press was 525 lbs raw. As assisted and staged as pro wrestling is, there was no faulting his strength, even lifting the likes of The Big Show (billed at 500 lbs at the time) up in his arms, walking to the edge of the ring and dumping him over the top rope. So just what was it, what kind of work out was it that gave Kane the size and strength that he had? Sure, there's many work outs similar, many athletes who are similar in size and how they gained it, but Kane in real life, not just about his work out, seems to be a very private man, as do most WWE wrestlers. It'd be interesting to know because along with the likes of Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, Kane was an all-round athlete with strength almost on par with the aforementioned Magnus Samuelsson. Thoughts, theories and input would be much appreciated. Kane was a monster before his bicep tear.
2 AnswersWrestling7 years agoHow high is a WWE ring apron?
From the floor to the top of the apron just beneath the bottom rope, how high is the apron? Brock Lesnar used to box jump it and still does whenever he makes an appearance. I just wondered since he's a pretty big man and the apron does look quite high, it must be quite a feat. It looks to be above waist height for him too.
2 AnswersWrestling7 years agoBrock Lesnar as a strongman?
I have been a life long fan of both the sport of strongman and of the WWE, so this is something that has interested me for a while. With all of the achievements that Brock Lesnar has made, in amateur wrestling, MMA and WWE, with even a short stint in the NFL, there's no doubt that Lesnar is an extraordinary athlete. Strength is something that he has relied on his entire life to succeed in what he's done and what he does. So my question is how well would Lesnar do in strongman? Both in his prime after winning his NCAA title at age 23 and now at the age of 36 after the health issues that he's had.
An interesting thing of note- In his recent Muscle and Fitness article interview, it's stated that Brock military presses 275 lbs for reps and deadlifts up to 550 lbs and is training much like he used to when he was first in the WWE. Also, at the age of 23, Brock put up better numbers than Derek Poundstone did at a similar age, with a 720 lb deadlift in comparison to 635 with Poundstone in the 319 lb class and Brock weighing 270. If Brock had trained strongman, he'd probably be stronger now too. So if he had trained strongman in his prime, in your opinion could he have been a world champ? And even now, if he applied himself, could he be a national champ at America's strongest man? Certainly no strongman past or present, with perhaps the exception of Pudzianowski could match Lesnar's speed and with his wrestling and farming background, no one could beat Lesnar in a carrying race and his grip would make him lethal on the stones and farmers walk. So what do you think?
2 AnswersOther - Sports8 years agoMy hair keeps falling out? Decent diet?
Hello there, over the past month or so, strands of my hair have been coming out and I stress the word strands because it isn't in clumps and there is no visible bald spot. I'm a 19 year old male, I've been under a lot of stress because of applying to university and the prospect of it. So I wondered if it could be due to stress? Also, I'll admit, I'm not the healthiest person in the world, underweight and anemic, so I know that diet is a factor. Could anyone suggest a decent hair care and diet regimen? On a side note, balding does run in my family, but not until middle age and as I said there is no bald spot, so I just need some reassurance really. If anyone could suggest good hair care, diet and vitamin advice it would be much appreciated. My hair is fairly long by the way, so perhaps a decent hair cut would help resolve the situation? Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Matt.
1 AnswerHair8 years agoIs a 110 KG (242 lb) deadlift good for a beginner?
Hi, I've never really deadlifted before or done any exercise of that kind, but I went to the gym for the first time a while ago and was surprised at how much I could lift off the ground. I'm 6'1" and 145 lbs and 19 years old, underweight I know, but yes, I want to know all-in-all is 242 lbs good for a newcomer? Thanks.
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness8 years agoWhat's the deal with Jerry Lawler and John Cena?
Seriously, the constant a-s-s kissing from Lawler to Cena is sickening. What happened to Lawler? He used to be the best heel commentator ever. These days he has his tongue so far up John Cena's rear end, you couldn't tell it was the same guy. Either he's stone dead silent (when anyone else wrestles) or he's spraying his shorts over a 5 nuckle shuffle and generally chiming in with all of Cena's 5 moves like a complete moron. Although he's not alone, when Lawler's suckling on one of Cena's nuts, Cole is right on the other. Could they not fire Lawler and bring back JR? Or better yet fire Cole, bring back heel Lawler and bring back JR.
6 AnswersWrestling8 years agoA question about my computer?
This morning I went out to college, leaving my laptop in my room. When I returned in the afternoon, I flipped open my laptop and turned it on to see it was starting up even though I only left it to sleep. I looked at my internet history and saw that a few things had been looked at in my absence, also some files on my computer had been modified. I checked, but nothing was edited or deleted, so what could "modified" be referring to? I asked my family if they used the laptop, but they denied it, I have my doubts though. So I wondered if not my family, then who? Can laptops and other such devices be detected when asleep by others and if so, who would take the trouble of shutting the laptop down and what can I do to avoid hackers or other such people in the future? Besides shutting it down myself of course, I prefer leaving my laptop asleep to resume later.
3 AnswersSecurity8 years agoWhat will my legacy be?
As a person and more importantly to me as a man, I want and need to know what my legacy will be. As in what is there to look forward to? What will people remember me by? I ask as just an ordinary person who feels like he's useless and can't contribute anything to the world. What can I do? I don't want to be someone who works all their life only to be made redundant and become perished and lost amongst all the other death certificates, never to be remembered.
I don't want to continue to live as the nobody who walks down the street and can't look other men in the eye. I feel shame and guilt for not doing anything or finding anything to do that would benefit other people. I mean.. I'll never be a scientist or an actor- a figure that people admire. My girlfriend left me, but she's the love of my life and I want to prove to her who and what I can be. Somebody help?
