Music scores with asymmetrical meter?
I'm looking for a full orchestral score with asymmetrical meter in some places, among other things, such as changing meters, tempos, dynamics...
2 AnswersClassical7 years agoWhat are the highest notes of Violetta (La Traviata) and Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte)?
I don't have the scores and I'm just wondering if anyone knows?
1 AnswerSinging8 years agoWhat are the highest notes of Violetta (La Traviata) and Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte)?
Just curious. I was a little surprised to read that Fiordiligi's part was classified as one for a coloratura soprano. I can't think of any notes she sang that would require such a voice type. Then again, it's been a while since I've listened to the opera.
1 AnswerPerforming Arts8 years agoMusical audition monologue for an 18 year old female?
So, I need an audition monologue...I'm an 18 year old female, though I could probably pass for ages 16 to 25. Does anyone have a good monologue suggestion? A monologue from a musical is preferred, though I'm welcome to selections from plays as well.
6 AnswersTheater & Acting8 years agoIs it okay to audition for a play with a monologue from a musical?
I'm in a acting class and our teacher wants us to prepare an audition monologue. The requirements are that we fit the age and physicality of the presented character and that it is from a contemporary show. I don't really have time to ask him if doing a monologue from a musical is okay but I'm wondering if any experienced actor/director knows if this is acceptable? (Oh, just in case this will make a difference, I am going to school for singing and my teacher knows this.)
1 AnswerTheater & Acting8 years agoHow old is Sally in the musical You're a Good Man Charlie Brown?
I am an 18 year old female with dark brown hair and I am 5'5" - I am trying to find a contemporary audition monologue that would suit my physicality and age, etc. and I have found one by the character Sally in the musical You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. How old is this character and do you think, based on the info I've given, that I would fit this role (aside from singing ability, as it's just for an acting class)? (And, if you have any other suggestions for monologues they are more than welcome!) Thanks!!!
2 AnswersTheater & Acting8 years agoDetailed story of Handel's opera Agrippina..?
I have been able to find general synopses of the story but I'm trying to find the context in which Poppea's aria "Bel Piacere" is sung. I need to find where exactly she sings it and why. If anyone knows of a good source to answer this, it would be wonderful if you could share... :)
2 AnswersClassical8 years agoHow would it look to medical schools if I were to apply with an undergrad degree in vocal performance?
I'm starting my undergrad freshman year in January and as of right now I'm declaring myself a vocal performance major. I've been involved in music my whole life and just graduated from one of the top high schools in the nation for performing arts. I'm not trying to sound full of myself, but I would say I have a decent shot of making music a career for myself in one way or another. Anyway, I've always been interested in the medical field and the career choice as a doctor has always lingered at the back of my mind. I'm just wondering that if I were to decide to become a doctor how would it look on med school applications to have a vocal performance major, assuming I had all the required pre med courses and did well in them?
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoCan't sing/hum past a certain point after jaw surgery..?
I had jaw surgery (sagittal split osteotomy) a little over a week ago and the healing process is going well so far. I am an 18 year old singer and I'm not too worried at this point in the healing process but I noticed that as I was humming in my lower range the other day that once I got to a certain note (that normally isn't extremely low for me) my vocal cords seemed to "get stuck" and wouldn't go any lower. It's a very odd feeling to describe...but it just seems like I lost any ability, support, or control past that point. I am speculating that this is probably due to the fact that during the surgery my muscles were stretched to an extreme point for several hours straight. I would think this would have some sort of temporary effect on the tissues and muscles around the vocal cords but I'm no expert...that's why I thought I'd see if anyone had an explanation for this. I just like to understand what exactly is going on in my body and why. Thanks. :)
1 AnswerOther - Health9 years agoIs it possible I have perfect pitch?
I've been a musician my entire life. I play piano and violin but my primary instrument is my voice. When I was little, a professional musician heard me sing in church and told my mother that she believed I had perfect pitch. I have been asked many times if I had perfect pitch but I was never sure because my pitch didn't seem "perfect" to me. I have always a very good ear and have been able to pick out tunes pretty easily but I haven't always been able to identify pitches 100% accurately. I have been working on my ear, especially in the past year or so, and have made huge improvements. Now, I find that if I hear something I'll go to the piano and often play the exact chord or note I heard or I'll look at a piece of music and start singing it then find that I was on the correct pitch. I am 17 years old but is it possible I have potential perfect pitch that I could develop? I know people say that perfect pitch is something you're just born with, but saying that I only have relative pitch doesn't seem right either. I seem to have more developed pitch than just relative pitch. Anyone know anything about this?
3 AnswersOther - Music9 years agoGood recreational reading books for a college student?
I'm wondering if anyone has some good suggestions for books to read in one's free time. I've always been really picky about the books I've read and, as a result, I've never been that much into reading. I'm at a college level reading proficiency but I'm open to some young adult books. A few books I've enjoyed in the past:
- Harry Potter
- Hunger Games
- The Pretties (Uglies, Specials, Extras.. ) series
- Ella Enchanted (and "Fairest" by the same author, Levine)
- The Crystal Cave (Mary Stewart)
- House of the Scorpion (Nancy Farmer)
I also like historical fiction...scifi and psychological thrillers are also interesting.
One more thing, I really don't want to read books with graphic sexual content and I also despise horror stories.
Thanks in advance!
4 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoWhat are some classical duets for a tenor and soprano?
My friend and I would like to get a classical duet together. We are both younger singers, but at a college level, so we've had quite a bit of training and experience. He is considered a spinto tenor right now and I am currently a light lyric soprano. What are some really beautiful duets for such voice types?
1 AnswerClassical9 years agoHow likely is it to develop vocal nodules?
I am a young singer currently enrolled in an intense classical vocal performance program. I sing pretty much everyday, including weekly private lessons, chamber choir, a larger choir, master classes, and other singing classes. Several months ago, the ENT found a small hemorrhaging on my false cords and told me not to sing for a week--just to be careful--but that it wasn't anything to worry that much about. However, I've noticed in the past month or so that I've been getting vocally tired pretty quickly. I have a very light soprano voice and I may be trying to sing louder than I need to. Also, I've been working a lot on my upper range. I don't really hear a difference in my voice, it just seems to be more of an effort to talk or sing after a pretty short period of vocal use. I'm just wondering why I'm getting tired quicker than what seems normal and how likely is it to develop vocal problems such as nodules?
1 AnswerOther - Health9 years agoMozart songs/arias for a lighter soprano?
I need about 10 minutes worth of music for a lighter lyric soprano that is all by W.A. Mozart. So far, I have Pamina's aria "Ach, Ich fuhl's" from the Magic Flute and I need one or two more songs or arias that are somewhat contrasting in sound. Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersClassical9 years agoCould I be a coloratura soprano?
My range is somewhere from a G below middle C to a high C6, but I am able to go somewhat higher or lower depending on the day. I have a darker tone to my voice, but I am able to do runs and quick passages pretty easily. I am sure that I'm a soprano, however, I don't really fit very well into any voice category. I read about a sub-type of coloraturas called soprano leggero, and that seemed to fit the best, but I'm not entirely sure still.
2 AnswersClassical10 years agoWhat are some classical songs for a soprano that are in a minor key?
I am getting together songs for a college audition and I have two out of three of the songs already, but I need one more song that would be considered standard vocal literature (classical). I am a soprano (soprano leggero). I need a piece that is in a minor key. I sound best with songs that have a haunting sound to them. Anyone know of anything?? :)
2 AnswersSinging10 years agoA few questions on Christianity..?
I just have a few questions I am wondering about. First off, I don't want anyone to think I am attacking anyone or their religion, I am just simply trying to understand.
1. I still don't understand the Trinity. How can three people be the same person? There are several scriptures in the Bible that mention Jesus and God doing separate things. For example, during the baptism of Jesus, God's voice spoke from the Heavens above. So, how can that be if they are the same person? Also, Jesus said that The One who sent him is greater than He is (meaning God, right?). So, if they are the same person, how could he be greater than himself who sent himself? Also, in Acts ch.7, it talks about Stephan looking up and seeing Jesus standing on the right-hand of God. So, I don't know how this could mean that they are the same person.
2. Where does the devil come from? How was he created? If God did not create him, then was he created in the same way as God?..But then that would make it seem as if he and God are on the same level, which doesn't seem right.
3. I have seen and heard many people, who claim to be Christian, talk badly about other people and other religions. Like, I've heard of some churches who even give classes about other religions and why they are wrong. How can you claim that to be Christian-like? It doesn't seem that a man who was perfect, who you name your religion after, would've bashed other people and religions..? In the Bible, Jesus would specifically go and teach sinners and people with faults. He didn't only teach people who went to church regularly and didn't sin very much. So, why do some Christians seem to only accept people who are like themselves, and bash other people, telling them they will go to hell?
4. How can a truly loving and merciful God send so many of his children to hell? Is all you have to do is believe in God and you will be saved? But how could God, who is loving and merciful, pick a few favorites to be Christians...and condemn the rest, many of which are very good, righteous people..? And what about those who never got the chance to hear about God? How is that fair?

2 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style10 years agoHealthy & vegetarian recipes catering to orthodontic needs?
I have braces and I just got a device called an extender in my mouth, so it's really hard to eat anything that's not really soft. On top of that, I'm getting oral surgery tomorrow to widen my upper bite. So..I'm going to be eating very soft foods. I don't really want to be eating only mashed potatoes and jell-o and pudding and soup and stuff like that... Are there any really good recipes that will not require a lot of chewing and that are healthy, as well as vegetarian??
5 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan10 years agoWould the music from "Les Miserables" be considered standard vocal literature?
I am auditioning for a vocal music program and the audition criteria is to sing two standard vocal literature songs of contrasting style. I am a mezzo-soprano, but I have a 3-octave range. I have a book for sopranos that is titled "Standard Vocal Literature," but it doesn't show off my lower range at all. I was wondering if the song "On My Own" from Les Miserables would work..?
