4 AnswersBiology1 decade agoHelp with my Year 9 options?
I asked this question a few days ago, but I'm still not sure. My Year 9 Options need to be in by Friday, and I really don't know what to do. Here's a bit about myself:
1. I'm good with computers, and I think I'd like to go into a career in that, for instance as an information systems manager. However, at my school they don't do a GCSE in ICT, only two OCR First National Awards - is that as good as a GCSE?
2. I'm in Set 1 for everything, and I don't want to limit myself in the future by only doing subjects like ICT.
3. I enjoy Science, but I don't see what future could come out of it for me. However, if I don't do Triple Science, I'll get the rubbish teachers.
4. I enjoy History and Geography, and I think they could keep my options open, as jobs like a journalist appeal to me.
I have two options, and I've got to choose between ICT, Triple Science and a Humanity (it's probably going to be History).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3 AnswersLyrics1 decade agoHelp with my Year 9 options?
Ok, so I now have only two option blocks to choose from. I'm thinking between three which I'd really like to do:
1. Triple Science
2. ICT
3. A humanity (History or Geography)
I'm in Set 1 for everything, so I wouldn't have any problems with studying these subjects. I'd like to go into a career in IT (I'm an avid user of the Computers & Internet category), but I'd like to keep my options open as other jobs like journalism quite appeal to me. I'm also not sure if the OCR First National Award is the same, worse or better. I've got just under a week to decide, and I'm kind of panicking!
Any help would be appreciated.
6 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoIs Shockwave Player compatible with Ubuntu Linux?
I recently switched to Ubuntu, and have been using Firefox. I like to play some 3d games on Miniclip etc, but Shockwave Player won't seem to work. I've downloaded it on Opera and Firefox, but neither play the games. I have WINE, and it doesn't make a difference.
Is it because it isn't compatible with Ubuntu or Firefox? Also, is there any other browsers that can play it? I've tried Chrome, but it seems to wreck the system.
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoShould I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as well as avast!?
I have avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus, which has protection for viruses, spyware, rootkits and other features similar to an Internet Security Suite like Norton - I know this because it says it here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
I want to know if it is necessary to download an anti-spyware program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, that scans for lots of different types of malware, to use along with avast!. Does MBAM provide any protection that avast! doesn't? Could using both potentially harm my computer? Or would I be unprotected without it?
7 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoDoes anyone have any good creative writing/wordplay skills?
Right, so I'm doing this ICT homework about a theme park. I want to describe the theme park for my website. Previously in the project, a water ride called 'The Big Splash' was mentioned. I think this is a bit of a rubbish name, so for a bit of humour, I want to include other rides names like 'The Scary Ghost' (a ghost train).
Has anyone got any ideas for some more like 'The Big Splash' or 'The Scary Ghost'? Thanks.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoAdobe Shockwave Player and others for Opera on Ubuntu Linux?
I've just recently installed Ubuntu (the latest version) and I'd like to play a few games on it, but for this I need Shockwave Player. When I go onto the download Shockwave Player page (http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/ ) it doesn't have an option for Linux or Opera.
Is there a way for me to get Shockwave Player - and other things like Flash - on Ubuntu? I've heard of something called Wine but I'm not sure how this works.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS: I'm using Opera because (1) Firefox was playing up, and so far doesn't seem as good as Opera, (2) Google Chrome's Linux version is only in beta and seems corrupt on my system and (3) I don't think Apple have a Safari for Linux and if they did, it wouldn't work very well.
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoDo I need a separate anti-spyware program with Avast! 5.0 Free Antivirus?
I know that Avast!, like many other anti-virus programs, has spyware protection as well as virus protection. However, many people on Yahoo! Answers seem to think that it is necessary to have a separate anti-spyware program too, like MalwareBytes, Super Anti-Spyware, Spybot Search & Destroy or Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Who should I believe?
Any help will be appreciated. Including a link with a trusted site on would be great.
6 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoHow do I uninstall or turn off Windows Defender?
I've just downloaded Avast! Free Antivirus so I want to get rid of Windows Defender because there is no need for it seeing that Avast! has spyware protection. Also, I don't want them fighting against each other. I've tried and tried but I can't seem to turn it off. I've had a Windows Defender warning concerning Avast! and I want to know how to get rid of it, if I need to.
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoPlease can you help with Microsoft Publisher 2010?
Is there a way you can change the settings, so that, in a text box, it never automatically puts a hyphen in the middle of the word when you get to the middle of a line, like this: hi there, please answer my question, it will really help, thanks a lot, goo- dbye.
I would like it to do it like Word, where it just takes the whole word to the next line.
Thanks in advance.

5 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoCan you give me cheap alternatives to iTunes Store?
I think at 79-99p iTunes songs are a rip-off and my friends agree. I've been told there are many cheap alternatives. Amazon mp3 and 7digital have been mentioned. Please can you list as many as you can.
Also, it would be good if you could buy a voucher in a shop and enter a code online like you can buy iTunes vouchers in hmv.
8 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhat is the best anti-virus program currently?
I don't want the expensive and resource-hogging Norton or McAfee. Everyone seems to recommend AVG but apparently you should stay away from AVG 9.0. Is there a new version arriving soon or should I go for Avast! or Avira etc? I don't really need anti-spyware - Windows Defender does the job.
Please give your opinions and recommendations.
