“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Spiritual progress does demand at some stage that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures for the satisfaction of our bodily wants”-. M K Gnadhi I am a believer but not in traditional sense. I see the things in present day context and do not blindly follow every thing our Holly books describe. I am a born vegetarian and Indian light classical music is my passion. • Has religion any thing to do with God?

God controls the universe in a dynamic way. Every thing is moving. Moon around the earth, earth around the Sun and so on…. Our own earth was not the same as it is today. Time is not static and everything around us is changing with time.

Only thing that do not appears to move ahead or change seems to be the “religion”. If you follow religion strictly , you become a historian who looks at the past only. Present and future tense are not in the grammar of religion at all because Theists do not tolerate any change in their man made scriptures with the conviction that its god sent.

I do not at all mean that those who follow religion are all not forward looking. I am not for or against any thing but just want to understand the things in a rational way.

  • Isn’t it true that, “You have to be in the system to change the system”?

What I mean to say is that, if people of scientific bent of mind somehow become the religious heads, they can do wonders for this planet by utilizing the followers for a good cause. After all, it becomes easier to direct your own followers. To substantiate my point, I would like you to read the following

The highest Sikh temporal body, has embraced the save-the environment mantra telling Sikhs across the world it was their “moral and religious duty” to care for nature.

High priest gave a religious call to the community to focus on cleaning the natural water resources rather than spending money on building up new Gurdwaras (church/temples of Sikhs).

“Wherever in the world you (Sikhs) may be, your focus should now be on cleaning up of natural water resources rather than building Gurdwaras,” he said at a function here on the ninth anniversary of cleaning of Kali Bein, a river in the state of Punjab, India.

  • Is it wrong to make a distinction between religion and spirituality?

As it is said that largest number of wars in the world have been fought in the name of religion. One continues to witness numerous conflicts resulting in violence in the name of religion. This often confuses people not only about the role of religion but even its need in life.

The life and teachings of Jesus show that he, too, made this distinction. His spirituality often went against the religious practices of the Pharisees. He often attacked them for their adherence to rituals which showed little regard for the welfare of people “For I say to you that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven”(Matt: 5:20) and “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves”(Matt: 7:15)

  • Is spiritual life is bound by religion?

That is not to say that religion and spirituality stand diametrically opposite to each other.

  • Do you agree, “Truth is that the God has no physical attributes at all”?

…….and that the scientific research, at the end of the day, would show the way to the explanation of the Creator?

The problem with the images of God we are painting, is that we humanize Him, which then leads to confusions, and misunderstandings.

In truth the Creator has no physical attributes at all.

We should think about Him as a force, energy or a law.

This energy field, or these laws are surrounding us all the time; it is ourselves who are not ready to receive the signals yet.

We have to adjust our own qualities like tuning a radio, so we can start receiving what these laws are about, what the purpose of our life is, where we are and where we should be heading.

For this tuning we need a special practical method, which was designed for this very reason.

  • Is god relevant? God is omnipresent then why church and temples?

God is omnipresent then why church and temples?

God is omnipotent then why world wars, 9/11, 26/11, Afghanistan Iraq and now Pakistan?

I do not expect you to blame Devil, human beings and karma for all this because that would automatically prove god’s irrelevance.

  • After posting a question, shouldn’t we wait for some time for answers keeping in mind the time zone factor?

…….....for serious topics like society, culture and religion

I mean, isn’t it right to give as much as necessary time to your co-members of “Yahoo! Answers” for answering your questions, specially the question on serious topics like religion, society and culture, considering the fact that we are all spread over all over the globe in different time zones. -------0622 PM in Mumbai India= 0752 AM in New York.

  • Do the believers have a + point?

I am a believer with an open mind and have posted this question earlier also.

In science, if any thing that cannot be proved directly is assumed hypothetically to be true or false first and then research is conducted to prove it right or wrong.

Researching backwards, they are stuck with a dead end, because the scientific theory of “nothing comes out of nothing” blocks the logical conclusion with no explanation beyond that point.

Whereas, for a Theist God’s preexistence is not at all guided by any scientific law, and hence, aren’t they in an advantageous position for any kind of debate

I must also say something about myself.

I am an Indian Sikh by birth (a branch of Hinduism) with an open mind and respect for all the religions, even Atheists. For me Atheism is also a kind of religion. I tend to see every thing from scientific point of view and hence the above question.

  • Is every human being is selfish with no exception at all?

My cousin always argues with me that all kinds of love and affections, even biologically linked ones, are conditional and every human being is selfish from the very beginning.

MY point of view is that, “ Initially, mother’s love for a small kid is a selfless noble love and self-interest may slowly take over after few years of growing”
