Is it normal for Attorney handling a house foreclosure to ask you to sign a Power of Attorney?
Our home is being Foreclosed on by the bank an Attorney who contacted us saying he can help has asked us to sign a Power of Attorney. I think it may be a scam so we are not signing anything or giving him any information or money until I have checked into it, but this seemed odd to me. Is that something that would normally be asked? Thanks.
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoMy son has ADHD and has been taking Adderall for about 5 Yrs. I would like to switch his meds. Any Suggestions?
My 13 yr. old son has ADHD and has been taking Adderall for about 5 Yrs. I would like to switch his medications to something without such a strong stimulant. He often complains of headaches while taking it and says it just makes him feel bad in general. He has done well in compensating some of the symptoms on his own and I feel like he is ready to try something different. His counselor has also said that after a while his body has gotten used to it and t is not as effective. My goal is to eventually take him off of all medication, but since he is still struggling with school, now is not the time. I would like something that doesn't cause aggression either, I know some of the treatments do. He has an appt. to talk with the Doctor about it tomorrow, but I would like to hear from parents of children who have tried other medications to see how they have worked before I change his. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

3 AnswersDogs9 years agoCan I purchase my own DVR instead of using one from the cable company?
I only watch and record shows on basic cable, but in order to have a DVR from my cable company I have to pay for digital cable with them as well as $20.00 per month for each DVR. Can I just have basic (non digital cable) and buy my own DVR and still be able to record my shows or do I have to have digital cable to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
TiVO & DVRs10 years agoAny police officers out there who can offer me some comfort after a bad experience with a cop?
My children were popping firecrackers on the 4th of July which is legal in my state. It was around 7:30 in the evening and apparently it ticked of my neighbors. The next morning I was outside with my children making them pick up the mess and my neighbor and his wife came around the corner yelling at me and threatening my children. They are 10 and 13. My husband then when outside and yelled at him to go home, his wife then picked up rocks and threw them at me striking me in the ankle. I called the police and let the 911 operator hear them yelling threats to kill me and my family while we slept and threatening to burn down my house. At this point a friend of ours jumped the fence and told them to get back home and the wife then struck him. He picked up a cover from the water supply and raised it up at them. (He did not strike them or move to strike them he was never closer that 5 or 6 feet from them).
When the police arrived we explained what happened and I showed them my ankle and the claw marks that she left on our friends chest. He went to talk to them and came back and told me that no one would be arrested b/c the guy had picked up the cover and wielded it at them. I became very upset b/c she had also assaulted me when I had not done anything to her and never got near her. I asked the officer to please call and get the 911 tape played back so that he could hear her threats and he refused. At this point I became irritated with the officer and told them something needed to be done b/c I feared for my children's safety while I was at work. Every time I asked him a question he became more irritated with me and began screaming at me telling me to go in my house which I refused to do b/c I was on my own property and not breaking any laws. He then jumped my fence in to my yard and placed me in handcuffs saying that I was being arrested for Public disorderly conduct. And took me to jail in front of my children. He claims that I was yelling at him, and I admit that I may have been a little louder than my normal voice because I was upset, but I DID Not yell at him nor did I cuss at him. I have never even had a speeding ticket and was arrested on my own property in front of my kids. Myself and my children are now scared to death to call the police if anything happens because they did nothing to this woman who admitted to assault and yet took me to jail instead.
I am afraid to let my children play outside and she yelled at them today, but I was afraid to call the police. She keeps yelling vulgar things and threats and I don't know what to do. It turns out that her husband is a retired Highway patrolmen and when I told her I had called the police and she laughed saying go ahead they won't take me to jail and she was right. I am at my wits end and can't afford to move.
I retained an Attorney today who says the charges will definitely be dropped, b/c the officer had no grounds to arrest me for Public Disorderly Conduct while I was on my own property.
I want to know what I can do to be sure that this officer does not get away with this he violated my rights, scared my children and made us distrust law enforcement. I studied law as a paralegal and have worked in public service myself, and the way this officer treated us was disgusting and out of line. What do I tell my children to do now if they have an emergency because they are now terrified of the police? Any thoughts suggestions or opinions welcome. thanks in advance.
12 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoPlease help, I am desperate!! I need information on how to get my husband in to alcohol rehab.?
I live in South Carolina. My husband drinks every single day (usually a case or more of beer a day or 2-3 pints of liquor a week in combination with the beer). we have 2 wonderful children (13 & 10) who are suffering greatly because of this. They are always scared to be around him when he is drinking because he likes to play and wrestle with them, but always gets too rough. He loses his temper with my son almost daily and has jerked him around by his arm and I'm scared because it is escalating. I have made him move out but my children always cry and beg for him to come back. (When he is not drinking he is a wonderful person and excellent father) I am trying desperately to keep our family together, but I can't hold on anymore. He is becoming more aggressive and out of control everyday. His father is aware of the problem and has tried talking to him, but nothing is working. I know it sounds like a no brainer and that I should just throw him out and if it were just me, I would, but my children get so upset and they worry that he may injure himself or get hurt while he is drinking. We have tried mini-interventions, but he always refuses to admit that there is a problem and storms out. At this point I want to find information on having him committed involuntarily and I have heard that this is possible if a spouse and a parent are willing, but I can't find any information on how to get the process started. His health is failing and he has constant injuries because of his drinking and I worry that he will die if he does not get help soon. (He is only 31), however his uncle died at 40 because of his alcoholism. I don't want that for my children and it is hard to see the generous wonderful man that I married turning into a monster. I can't relax even for a minute because I have to keep a constant watch on him especially when he loses his temper so frequently. If anyone out there has lived with an alcoholic you know how terrifying it can be. It is affecting my children mentally and emotionally and I have been on anti depressants and suffered from anxiety and panic attacks over the last 3 years. PLEASE HELP. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please don't judge me and say that I am stupid, I just feel like I am stuck between a rock and hard place. No matter what I do my whole family will suffer. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

17 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoHow long will it take the IRS to review my return?
I received a letter saying that my return was "under review" so I called the IRS and they can't tell me why it is under review or how long it should take to review it. Does anyone know how long it usually takes or why they can't tell me why it was sent to review in the first place. After all it is my return, so why do they not tell you why it is under review? Do I have the right to demand that they tell me why they are holding my refund check?
My return was accepted on Jan. 18th and the original date it was scheduled to be direct deposited was Jan. 30th. I am anxious because my car needs to be repaired and I can't do that until I get my refund. Any help or explanation would be appreciated. Thanks.

4 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoHow long can a person be held in jail waiting for a bond hearing when a circuit court judge is needed to set b?
My brother in law is being held in jail waiting for a bond hearing, but he has been there for 14 days and we have been told that he has to wait for a Circuit Court Judge to set his bond. As far as we can tell that will be somewhere around the 5th of January. By the way the charges have been dropped by the person who filed them, but now they say we have to wait for the Solicitor to drop them. I didn't think you could be held that long without a bond hearing. Please help. Thanks.

3 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoWho else is pis%ed about the housing situation? Seriously, It is effecting even those who didn't ..read more.
I am trying to sell my home and purchase a new one and I am ticked off that because of the banks lending to buyers with risky credit and giving them adjustable rates is now effecting the sale and purchase of my new home. A few years ago when they decided to lower the standards of credit needed to buy a home everyone jumped in and now that those adjustable rates are catching up with them...the government is supposed to bail them out. It has caused the market to plummet which means I am having to take less for my home (which I qualified for with good credit and a good rate). Not to mention it is damn near impossible for anyone to get approved anymore, because they realized their mistakes and have now set the standards so high that most people don't qualify at all. I feel bad fro those who are having their homes foreclosed on...I really do....but I busted my as to build good credit, did tons of research to get the best rate and now I will do good to get out of my home what I owe on my mtg

I am selling my home and the inspector is coming out, what kind of things can he find? I can't afford to do any fix ups because I set my house at rock bottom price in order to sell quickly. Will the buyer back out? I am scared b/c my house is 40 years old, and I don't know of anything wrong with it, but with it being so old I am really scared.
