Formerly Christian (over 20 years) but happily Wiccan (over 10 years). I have many reasons for leaving Christianity - some religious, others personal. I welcome debate but if you get snotty with me, I'll dish it right back at ya. I absolutely will NOT tolerate attempts to convert me and I will not attempt to convert you. Try it and see how nasty I can be.

  • Pennsylvania food industry?

  • Heathens...a question?

I've read a few books regarding Norse mythology and am aware The Eddas are available to read online. However, I hate reading online and would like to know which translation you most prefer. I have been considering purchasing Hollander's translation but the reviews are so mixed.

  • Beltane Feast question?

I'm planning to hold our Beltane ritual and we always include a meal. This year the focus will be on the fiery aspects and I was thinking of serving spicy (but not TOO spicy) foods. Probably something along the lines of Mexican or Italian and looking for suggestions...

  • Question regarding balance and tolerance?

I'm working on an Ostara ritual that will be focusing on the idea of balance and tolerance within religion. Since most Wiccans and other Pagans originally came from Christian backgrounds, I'd like their views on the "pros" of Christianity since so often we spend more time focusing on the "cons". Also, what God/Goddess combination you feel would best represent this idea (preferably Northern European or Celtic).

    Thanks!

  • Question for Wiccans that don't practice witchcraft...?

While most of us associate witchcraft with things like spells, divination, and such wouldn't the practice of connecting with your chosen Deities also be considered magic/witchcraft? Just curious.

  • Wiccans & Witches, please answer this...?

In what book have you read or mentor has told you that spells cannot be cast for personal gain? I can guess the answer is none. This idea comes from the tv series Charmed. I feel sorry for those of you who allow a fictional show to be the basis of your spiritual knowledge. Even for those who don't do spellcraft, the act of communing with your chosen Deities is for personal gain.

  • Any Pennsylvania homeschool parents here?

I was curious about any problems you've encountered upon submitted your homeschool evaluator evaluation report to your local schools. My local school district's superintendent has singled me out by denying that I've met the requirements although my evaluator (a certified teacher) has said my son's work was above and beyond what is normally required. Keep in mind, this happened beyond the typical 30 day period as stated in Act 189 (?). I also know that we were singled out because I've talked to several other homeschoolers' parents from my district.

  • Magic & J.K. Rowling?

I found this quote to be interesting considering how many christians believe the Harry Potter books are so evil. Anyone else find this interesting????

"We do not need magic to transform our world," she said. "We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better."

Imagination gives one the ability to empathize with others, she said.

"Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation," Rowling said. "In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity; it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared."

  • Why do so many people assume...?

that doing magic for personal reasons is wrong? Is it because they watched Charmed too many times? The reason for doing rituals is to gain a closer bond to our Deities and magic is part of that. So every spell or ritual is for personal gain in one form or another.

  • Spiritually speaking, am I being a judgmental b*tch?

One of my best friends quit her job and decided to be a stripper. She claims its a legitamate way to earn a living but she's lied to her family (including her 4 yr old son) about what she's doing. She began having "private sessions" the very first night she started working. I'm not christian nor a prude, but this whole thing just disgusts me to no end. She's intelligent with an Associates Degree in Marketing and plans to go back to school in the fall to pursue a degree in Business Management. She's actually quit two jobs in the past month and has left her child with his father and is making no attempt to create a life for them or seek custody.

  • Personal gain?

Why do so many so-called Wiccans believe that spells cannot be done for personal gain? Is it because the tv show Charmed says so? Is that all your research has really taught you - that you should believe in Hollywood's version of Wicca and Witchcraft? Every time I perform a ritual or do spell work, I gain something from it. It may be a closer connection to Divinity or an improved state of being.
