Does a slimmer laptop compromises its performance over less slim laptop with same spec?
Hi, this question is seriously for electronics engineers or computer systems engineers, as I am an electronics engineer myself. Normally laptops specs only show the processor, ram, and motherboard chipset at most, but the motherboard design can vary a lot from brands and models but yet their details are very few towards buyers. In this case I want to compare the dell precision m4x00 series laptop (let say m4800) and other extremely slim laptop (let assume any laptop you like) with same processor and ram (maybe i7 quad core 8 threads at 2.4ghz and 8gb ram), also I wouldn't interest in graphic performance, therefore assume both using built in intel graphic. Will the smaller motherboard has worse signal integrity problems and has much tighter timing constraints and therefore perform as good as bigger motherboard aka bigger laptop? Thank you very much for you knowledge

Just curious if the typical carbon fibre vinyl found on ebay are actually made from real carbon fibre, or is it merely made from other materials with only carbon fibre pattern on it?

Hi, as what I know that the iso format is capable of containing the whole cd content without any compression. So, where can I download those cd equivalent quality file in iso format? Please don't suggest me to download other types of compressed format, like mp3, flac, wmv, etc... as those format are not truly lossless. Thank you.
3 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agocan a stirling engine to become a nuclear reactor backup cooling system?
Hi, first of all I am not a mechanical engineer, and I am sorry if I am asking the foolish question. Based on my knowledge, the sterling engine works based the difference between the cool and hot temperature. As for recent nuclear crisis in Japan, I do doubt about this solution. These kind of power generator usually being built near region where water source is abandon. And apparently the temperature of the overheating nuclear core is very much distinct with the temperature from the water nearby. Is it possible that a huge sterling engine to be designed and use to circulate the cooling water inside the nuclear core as long as the core remain hot?

2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoHow to play HD video on HDTV via my laptop?
Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop with Nvidia 8400M GS gaphic card. I have managed to play downloaded bluray 1080 video through the use of Nvidia Cuda hardware acceleration. But my laptop has only one vga port and I would like to connect my laptop to HDTV to watch those bluray videos. I have 3 options in total, where
1. I can just get a vga cable to connect to the HDTV.
2. I can get an USB to HDMI adapter.
3. I can get a pcmcia to HDMI card.
For option 2, I doubt that the video quality will be affected, since bluray video requires high data rate, and I doubt that the USB cannot meet the requirement. As for option 3, I would know if the pcmcia does have the speed better than USB, and thus have better picture quality? Or do I just go for option 1, does vga port capable of delivering such high data rate and high quality picture to the TV? So what are the best option in order to get the best picture quality out of it. Thank you.
2 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoshould I perform fft before decimation or after decimation?
Hi, I am working on DSP and I would like to perform filtering using fft and ifft method. But I will expect to perform decimation to reduce the number of samples at the final output from the filter. So I am thinking of doing the decimation before using fft filter, so that the filtering load can be reduce by the same time. But I am concern of the accuracy I am getting. So is it both decimation before and after fft filtering will give me the same result? (given that, I will perform decimation on filter coefficient in time domian as well).
1 AnswerEngineering1 decade agoHow to move a recovery partition to a new hard disk?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop, and I am planning to upgrade the hard disk from 80gb to 500gb. The old hard disk have 10gb D drive reserved for the window recovery data (vista). So, my plan is to make 3 partitions on my 500gb hard disk, with 290gb for C:, 10gb for D: Recovery, and another 200gb E: for my personal backups. The old 80gb hard disk has only C: and D: Recovery. I am thinking of copying the original D partition from the old disk to the new one, so that the recovery will work on my new hard disk. So how can I do that? Since I will do the format and partition of the new hard disk via usb external drive method, can I just copy and paste it directly to that partition? Or Is there any other method to achieve this? Thank you.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoIf God is really omnipotent, then why he still have to wait in doing everything?
Since God is omnipotent, he can do anythings we can and can't imagine. I have heard that, God have his timing in order to give us the best. But since he is omnipotent, why he still have to wait for the best??? He can easily make the best things happen instantaneously in the next second. There are infinite possibilities could happen in the next second, then why he can't just make one of the possibilities happen instead have to wait? But, if God really have to wait in order to give us the best, then he is no longer omnipotent, because what he is doing is limited by time.

I have a permanent dental crown fitted on my upper left second molar. During the fitting, all the three teeth in front of the second molar went numb due to the extremely large crown being fitted in. After the numb has gone away, I have found that my first molar on my upper left jaw experience extreme force from the crown during biting and chewing which makes me very uncomfortable. I would like to know if this is normal for the crown to share the biting force with the teeth next to it, or if it is a bad crown. Is there any solution for this?

Hi, I have situation here where my laptop and the wifi router are separated with walls and cause the connection to fail. I am thinking of replacing the wireless router's antenna with an antenna booster, probably 10dBi. I believe this antenna will be able to penetrate the signal through the walls to my laptop. But I doubt that, will this antenna be able to receiver the returning signal from my laptop, if I don't do any upgrade to my laptop?
