As far as my work, I consider myself to be an artist of ideas and of words, commonly known as an inventor and a writer. As far as humankind is concerned, I am a passionate advocate of children; so many of whom are tragically abused and neglected by their own parents. Succinctly, I will literally respect any child above and beyond any adult. That seems to be a completely alien concept in Western Civilization. Lately, I have had the frame of mind that I am on a exploratory experiment from 3200 years in the future.
Why are there no flights from Sydney, Australia direct to Buenos Aires, Argentina?
It's a lesser distance than from Sydney to Dallas, Texas; which is the longest flight on the planet.
8 AnswersSydney5 years agoI have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium running on my laptop. A message comes up that there is a problem...?
I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium running on my laptop. A message comes up that there is a problem in Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0; then shortly thereafter, the screen goes black and I have to restart. I can use the system for perhaps an hour and the whole scenario repeats.
I have done a little research on this and am puzzled that v. 2.0 is supposedly intended only for Windows XP; so I ask myself, "Why is it on my Windows 7 system?" If my problem is due to some problem within .NET Framework 2.0, could I possibly uninstall it and run solely on .NET Framework versions 3.0 and 4.0?
I'd love to reinstall Windows and see how that benefits me but the DVD has been misplaced. So I am stuck with this installation. I just really hope that this is a solvable software problem as replacing the laptop is not so easy.
I sought to uninstall .NET 2.0 but it was not listed in Programs; only the 4.5.1 which has been installed only a few days ago. Since it was available, I uninstalled 4.5.1; the problem continued (not surprisingly). And I re-installed 4.5.1; still the 2.0 problem continues to crop up.
Until this problem came up, the laptop was performing as well as could be expected. It uses a 64GB SSD and 8GB of memory; it restarts in 15 seconds and is very stable... until now.

2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks7 years agoDo you think that there is a need for a charitable, non-profit business that repairs cars?
This would be a referral-only program; that is, it would not be advertised publicly. A person would have to get a referral from their church, government welfare, dept. of vocational rehabilitation, Community Action, etc.
I am seriously considering setting this up and putting to use my three decades of work experience for the sake of people who need their car repaired for whatever reason. I would be living off of my Social Security and not be paid anything for my work.
Of course, the funding of something like this is going to be a bit pricey to start; I believe that crowdsourcing would serve me well.
It's the on-going expenses that have me most concerned. Someone is going to have to have deep pockets to keep this operation afloat.
But my real question is if there is sufficient demand for this type of service?
1 AnswerPolls & Surveys8 years ago8 GB of RAM installed; system recognizes only 4 GB?
Toshiba Satellite C655-S5310 Model # PSC2EU-02P Serial # 9B183120Q Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. The system manual states, "Supports up to 8 GB of system memory" and immediately after that, states, "Supports the following configurations: 4096 MB (2048 MB x2), 3072 MB (1024 MB x 1 + 2048 MB x 1), 2048 MB (2048 MB x 1), 2048 MB (1024 MB x 2), & 1024 MB (1024 MB x 1)".
Note that none of the supported configurations acknowledges a 4096 MB stick of memory by itself... yet in "Control Panel" in "System", it states on my system that it acknowledges 4 GB of memory.
What is keeping my system from recognizing all 8 GB of memory that is installed?

I already know. I just want to see if anyone is truly psychic.
Hint: it's not really my car.
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoIs Flash Player compatible with Chrome O/S?
While it may be very likely that Flash Player and related software (used in Facebook CItyville, etc) is compatible with Chrome O/S because the Chrome Browser has no problem with it, I would like to see some official statement from Google or Adobe that all will be well. Perhaps the question is so basic that it doesn't state anywhere about the compatibility. I'm considering getting a Chromebook for my wife to replace her broken Panasonic Satellite... and all she does is play the Facebook/Zynga games.
3 AnswersSoftware8 years agoMy Motorola C139 go phone says "message is unable to send" when I try to send a text message, why?
This is a TracFone.
I did find this exact same question here on Y!A; however the "answer" was to use the right settings. Not much of an answer when all you know is how to use the phone in its most basic form. And of course, the instruction manual (that I found online) did not even begin to answer this question. I am able to receive texts. And, yes, this may actually be the first time that I have attempted to send a text; therefore there could be something wrong about my settings; which settings I don't know.
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans9 years agoHidamari Sketch: Near impossible question: Looking for a scene?
I seriously doubt that anyone is going to be able to answer this, but here goes anyway. There is a scene in Hidamari Sketch (could be any of the three seasons) wherein Yuno and Miya are in front of the Apartments and Hiro meets and speaks with them. At one point, Yuno says that Hiro is like a mother to the girls; Miya agrees, embellishing on Yuno's comment. I need the entire conversation.
All I ask is if anyone knows which episode this is in.
If no answer, I will continue to go through them all until I find it. I'm just concerned that I will find it in the last episode that I choose to check... after going through all the other forty or so.

Is it possible to convert the 2.725 K microwave background radiation temperature to a number of equivalent energy units per area (joules per square meter)?
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoIn a perfect vacuum, would a laser beam beam diverge to the same extent as a radio signal?
The old inverse-square thing, you know. Or is theoretically possible that the beam be kept at its original diameter? Would throwing a few TeraWatts into it help? All hypothetical.
Let's not try to ruin this by letting reality get in the way. I know that there are always some folks who just love to shut questions down with smart-aleck answers which side-step the question altogether.
3 AnswersPhysics9 years agoLa Croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger (manga): Will I ever find this manga in English?
It does look doubtful as it seems to only be serialized in "Dragon Age Pure"; thus it is only in a magazine with other stories and spread out over several months. Images that I have found appear to be in manga format and in Japanese. Is there no hope for me? I have watched the twelve animation episodes and truly enjoyed that.
1 AnswerComics & Animation10 years agoIn Croisee in a Foreign Labyrynth, what is Yune's age?
I know that this can be difficult to document but I would truly appreciate knowing what her age is supposedly. It would be nice to know Claude's age also. I can figure that he in his teens; but I could be wrong. Please cite a source for your answer.
1 AnswerComics & Animation10 years agoMy cakes are too dry! How do I get them to come out nice & moist?
I am pretty sure that this is a very basic cooking question. I live at an elevation of 4550 feet and have learned to look for and follow High Elevation cooking instructions. However, even when I follow the instructions to a T, some of my cakes come out too dry. What could I do to assure that I have a moist cake every time? Add more oil? Add more butter? Lower the temperature? Shorten the cooking time? Or is it something best left to the philosophers and wise men of the future?
9 AnswersCooking & Recipes10 years agoCollege burnout: What to do?
My options are very limited. I must graduate this quarter. I have nearly zero desire/motivation to do my school work. I have had a preliminary physical evaluation by a doctor; nothing unusual from standard tests. I have a second appointment with the psychologist in two more days but every day is hyper-critical to accomplishing what needs to be done. Instead I have spent the last several hours on Yahoo Answers. Other days have been wasted on the Internet. I don't dare tell my wife as she will not be able to handle the news. (She's already been married to me for 32 years; how much more do I need to torture her?) I am secretly hoping that there will be this magical medicine. I have had experience with such a prescription: Prozac. Back in 1994, it changed my life and I wouldn't be without it now. Complicating the whole matter are some other factors. I have some indications that I am developing dementia which kind of screws your life up in a major way... especially if you are just finishing schooling of which you have dreamed for over twenty years and you have been getting freakin' straight A's in all your classes and you experience college burnout. As I rant here, I realize that no one out there is going to have a response that can even begin to address the situation. I am probably asking this just out of sheer frustration. I have been researching college burnout; that's a real threat. I have been out of work since January 2009 and being 56 years old with only an Associate's degree in my field of proposed work career going up against the rest of my classmates who at least aren't half-insane and have some decades of work potential in them. I can't even complete my thoughts here. Been trying to get qualified to be on Social Security Disability but I am not crazy enough or disabled enough to qualify. Yet I have averaged nine months per job in my thirty-year work history, proving my undesirability or inability to work.
Well, I'm going to post this mess regardless, get some crappy answers (if any), and then delete it to stop the madness/nonsense from rolling in.
But... there's always hope? (Ha! That's a good one. Just like the Law of Attraction; pure B.S.)
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoSerious question: What will my life be like when my dementia is full-blown?
Because I have REM Behavior Disorder, there is a distinct possibly that I may go on to develop some type of dementia (Alzheimer's, Lewy Body Dementia, etc.). I already understand that I will not be able to be independent nor be a care provider as I am now. I know that I will not be able to drive or hold down a job. But what will I be able to do? WIll I be able to read? Could I enjoy my music? Could I at least watch TV?
I have been given an insight as to how I may experience things in general by way of a dream; that is, I posed the question to myself, "What will it be like to be demented?"; and my subconscious answered me through a dream. Although the experience was not pleasant, I am grateful for the insight.
Nonetheless, I want to face this change in my life armed with as much knowledge as possible. Ideally, I would want information from dementia patients themselves... but I understand that that is not really possible, given their detachment from reality. So I will have to settle for the experiences of their care-givers.
Whatever you can share will be appreciated.
