  • Gun collectors... what are your opinions on the Colt 1903?

There is one for sale locally (made in 1906, .32 acp) that I am having a hard time talking my self out of buying to add to the gun collection. It looks like take-down is a bit of a hassle, but I think it would be nice to pair with vintage Colt government issue 1911's I plan to add in the future.

  • Can you remove a hard drive w/operating system from one Macbook to another and have it work?

My wife spilled water on her old white Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, OS X 10.5.2) so the keyboard no longer works. Someone is selling a Macbook Pro with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz on craigslist sans the hard drive. My question is, can I just put the hard drive and the extra RAM from my wife's computer into the Macbook Pro and have it work smoothly, or will there be all kinds of software/driver issues?

  • Does refurbishing the wood on an old military rifle (Mauser K98, Garand, Enfield) take away from its value?

I plan to start collecting old military rifles, and would like to strip, sand, and restain the wood stocks to close to the original stain. I know it would help the value on something like a Mosin-Nagant, but could it actually hurt the value on something a little harder and more expensive to obtain like a Mauser K98, Enfield, or Garand? I have a Mauser K98 Soviet capture and I would like to know if I should leave it be or refinish it. What are your thoughts?

  • 2001-up Chevys. Duramax vs. 5.3L and 4.8L gas engines...?

I will be replacing my beloved 2002 Silverado with a 4.8L engine due to an accident. I am considering a Duramax engine over the gas engines due to gas mileage and power. I know that diesels last longer and people always joke about a 100K mile break-in, but I am curious... is a same year truck with a Duramax with 150K miles on it worth the same or more than a 5.3L truck with 75-80K miles everything else being equal? Also, what kind of gas mileage might I expect with an extended cab Duramax on the highway?

  • I just purchased a Ruger SR556. Should I break it in, or can I just start shooting?

The guy I purchased it from was showing me his Armalite AR-10 and telling me about the break in for it... three shots, clean, three shots, clean, three shots, clean, ten shots, clean... etc. Should I do this to my Ruger to guarantee accuracy for the life of the gun, or can I just start shooting? This is by far the most expensive gun I have purchased so I want to treat it right.

  • Is the Ruger SR556 worth it?

I will be purchasing an AR in the next month and originally had it narrowed down to Armalite and Colt... leaning toward Colt since when the AR bubble does burst, the higher end ones will still hold their value (although I never have an intention of selling it, I still like for it to hold its value). Now I have been reading about the Ruger SR556 lately and it seems to be in the same class as Colt and Armalite. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle and is it worth the extra cost over a cheaper AR?

  • What is the hierarchy of AR-15s?

I am in the research phase for purchasing an AR-15 and would like to know the general consensus on the quality/best value among Rock River, DMPS, Bushmaster, and Olympic. These are the four main brands I see out there.

  • Do K&N cold air intakes increase horsepower and gas mileage as advertised?

I would like to put one on both my 2002 Silverado (4.8L engine), and my 2007 Monte Carlo SS (5.3L engine) if it increases the power as advertised. I am looking for answers from those who have put them on their vehicles and looking for personal observations.
