I don't mean to put an intellect on animal cells, but the purpose of oxygen in aerobic respiration is to be the final electron acceptor in the Electron Transport Chain. But my question is if oxygen isn't needed until this final step, how does the cell recognize available oxygen and subsequently proceed with aerobic respiration? Thank you :)

Im in a pokemon battle via text message and i just used mega squeal with me Rapterdon against a Digipotty who is weak to my mega sqeal (everybody know that, duh) and my opponent is refusing to take double damage from his pokemon.
