  • Best breed of dog for me?

Hi! I am looking for another dog. I a horseback rider, and I need to be able to take it to the barn without it barking, running away, etc. It needs to be short haired, little shedding. The size does not matter, but a medium or large dog is best. I would like it to be athletic and trainable/smart; we like to do dog agility as a fun hobby. However, I don't want a dog that cannot calm down and is running around everywhere like a maniac. I also want to be able to let it off leash around the barn and know it will stay reasonably close, not a dog that will wander as far as its legs will take him. finally it needs to be good with kids at least over the age of about 7.

A friend suggested a Vizsla, do you think that breed fits the criteria?

I know this is tough criteria, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Show name for hunter/jumper gelding?

His barn name is Ruckus. He is a flashy 4 yr old chestnut (almost palomino) with four socks and a blaze. Super sweet, laid back, and fun!

  • My tall boots are now too big?

About a month ago I bought a pair of Ariat Heritage Zip Field Boots. When I first tried them on in the store, the lady said they fit like custom boots, and it felt like it too. I wore thick socks for about 2 weeks while riding to break them in without getting sores. Then I just kept wearing them until now (the socks, not sure why) and I just put them on today without the thick socks. They are huge. There is so much extra leather around my calve, and they slide down super far around my ankle. Even with the socks, they have been getting looser and quite baggy around the ankle. I'm upset because my mom would not get me new ones so recently after getting these, and since they are broken in I cannot exchange them. Is there anything I can do to get them to tighten back up/shrink a bit? I wanted to use them for showing, and I'm hoping that is still an option, the leather is still really nice because I keep them well cleaned. I don't want them to go to waste.

  • What do the sizes mean for martingales and such?

I'm getting a new flash bridle, running martingale, and open front boots. The size options for the bridle are C/S and F/S. For the running martingale they are C/S, F/S, O/S, P/S. The size options for the boots are just F/S. What do these sizes stand for/mean? I have only seen cob, horse, etc for sizing. The horse is 16hh and pretty compact.

    Thanks so much :)

    Thanks!

  • Question about new tall boots?

So last week I tried on the Ariat Challenger boots at my tack shop to get the size. The lady said the the size was the same through all of the boots. I came out as a 7.5 slim calf regular height. She said they fit like custom boots and they felt like it too. So I got the Heritage ones in that size and I just put them on. They feel pretty loose around the ankle but tight enough at the calf. Is this okay? Like when I just stand it wrinkles up and I can pinch big pieces of leather. This won't be bad in the long run will it? Also, any tips for breaking them in without ruining or weakening the leather? I have heard getting them wet helps but it seems very odd that this would be okay. Does it work?

    Thanks!

  • How do you use Orvus paste for washing a horse?

Hello! I have a grey horse and he is always yellow and muddy. I have been using Quik Silver to wash him, but my trainer told me to use Orvus because she prefers it and said it works great. Have any of you used it before? How exactly are you supposed to use it? example: what temperature should it be, does it need to be mixed with water, how long to you leave it in, ect. We just bought some and are washing him in a couple hours. Thanks so much in advance!!

  • What does it mean if horses have large "dips" above their eyes?

I am looking at a horse to possibly buy. He is a 9 year old paint gelding and is very muscular and does novice/training level eventing. He has large "dips" above his eyes and I am wondering what this means! A lot of people say it happens when they are old or malnourished but he is nothing of the sort. Thanks!

  • getting tall boots wet to break them in?

I'm getting new leather tall boots next weekend. I'm wondering about breaking them in. My main priority is having them be comfortable while I'm riding because I do not want to deal with tall boot pain while I'm trying to ride, especially at shows. I have heard that you can put on your tall boots and then step into a bathtub of lukewarm water until your feet get damp and then you wear them around the house all day or until completely dry. They say that this is the best way to break in boots because it loosens the leather and dries to fit your feet much much better than before. People have said that it is like wearing custom fit boots once you do this. Others say that it will ruin the leather. Which is true?? Has anyone tried it? If it works, exactly how would I go about doing it?

    Thanks!

  • help with building a stall for a miniature horse?

Hi! My friend and I are planning on purchasing two miniature horses. Don't worry, we have experience. :) So we didn't want to raise the cost by purchasing a pre-made stall, so we were wondering if it would be possible to build one from complete scratch. We were thinking that it would open up into a good sized paddock. Has anyone ever done this? Please give details on how we would go about this.

    Serious answers only please.

    Thanks in advance!

So sometimes when i am holding my guinea pigs in the living room, my dog comes up and sniffs their faces a little and sometimes gives them a lick or two. she never lunges at them or tries to bite them or anything. my guinea pigs never move or back away. Does my dog like my guinea pigs or does she want to have them as dinner? Even though my guinea pigs do not move, are they scared?

  • Show Jumping Rally question? Please answer! :)?

So I am going to a show jumping rally this weekend with my new horse. I am team captain. I've read a lot of the show jumping rally rule book and I've read bits and pieces of the horse management rulebook. It's over 100 pages long and I cannot possibly read that in three days. My team and I are very prepared for the rally, with everything we need, spiffy and shiny. We are also familier with most of the rules that I know of. We have had an experienced horse person help us memorize and learn some more rules. I'm just wondering if I will be clueless at the rally without reading the whole horse management rulebook.

  • I am getting another dog...what kind should I get?

So I have two dogs right now and am going to get another. I have a standard poodle and a havanese. I was thinking about getting another standard, as they are great dogs, but I wanted to see what else is out there. I need a hypoallergenic, my dad is allergic to shedding dogs. Also, I would like to be able to have an agile dog that I would be able to easily train and compete in dog agility. (Just like my current standard poodle <3) So yeah. Also I am looking for a good family dog that is good with kids and other dogs. If you could give me a few breeds that meet the guidelines that would be great. If you wanted, it would be much appreciated to give me any ads or websites of any particular puppies. Thanks in advance! PS- I am looking for a dog to raise from young puppyhood. :)

  • Wondering about side bangs?

Ok...so I am 12 years old and a lot of my friends have side bangs...not sure if they would look good on me. My hair is SUPER straight and goes about half way down my ribs. It is also sorta thin and blonde. (I don't color or straighten it or anything its just kinda like that) So I was wondering if you could help me decide if I should or not and also if you could send me pics of side bangs that could look good that would be great. I don't want MAJOR side bangs, but I think I might want them. Thanks in advance!! :)

  • guinea pigs won't eat their veggies?

I got my piggies a while ago and I've heard to give them a variety of vegetables...only one problem. The only vegetable they will eat is romaine lettuce. I gave them red bell pepper, parsley, carrots, cucumber, and romaine lettuce. The only thing they eat is the romaine. But they do eat everything else I gave them-hay and pellets. They drink their water and they are healthy and active. Are they just picky or is something wrong with them? Because if they are just picky, I don't see how I am going to be able to give them a variety of veggies. Please no rude answers. Thank you so much! :)

  • my guinea pigs wont let me hand feed them?

I've had my guinea pigs for five days now. I have to say they are pretty used to me, they let me pick them up, they let me trim their nails (when we got them their nails were REALLY long), and they let me brush them. But whenever I hold them and try to give them food from my hand, they won't take it. I've tried to give them carrots, romaine lettuce, cucumber, red bell pepper, and parsley. They won't eat any of this stuff from my hand. But when I leave the room and come back a couple hours later, they will have eaten almost all the food I gave them. I'm confused! Please help! And no rude answers please. Thanks!
