If you dislike criticism then perhaps you should conduct yourself in way that doesn't inspire so much of it. "Not all things are quantifiable. Just because something can't be seen, weighed, touched, or smelled does not mean it does not exist."
Should we make an appt. to interview day care centers?
My husband and I are expecting our first child (yea!!!), and we need to start looking around for a suitable day care provider. We've been given advice on what to ask and what to look for. This we feel prepared for. However, one question remains...
Do we make an appointment before we go?
We've been told, yes, make an appointment so the director/supervisor/head honcho of the facility will make sure to have time for you.
We've also been told, no, do NOT make an appointment, especially when searching for a facilty that will be taking care of a newborn because they will prepare for your visit in such a way that could be deceitful. We would not get an accurate representation of the condition of the baby/infant rooms if we make an appointment. was told specifically to ask to see the infant room, even if a formal interview cannot be conducted at that time. If they won't even let us do that, we might wish to take this as a sign that this facility might be sub-par. I

10 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWho do we invite to the baby shower?
A couple friends of mine are throwing my husband and I a baby shower. Besides friends, who do we invite? Can we invite family? My husband said for us NOT to invite his family for some reason.
Can someone clarify? I can't find a straight answer anywhere on the web.
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoStartup program won't go away!!!?
I have IMVU on my computer, but I don't want it to start when the computer is booted up. I have tried msconfig, but the file (IMVUClient.exe) keeps reappearing. About every other restart, the program starts up, despite me having removed it.
Help! This is driving me nuts.
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhat amplified phone should I get for Grandma?
My grandmother is 92 years old. Her hearing greatly impaired, and she has a hard time hearing us (her family) when we call. I'd like to get her a quality amplified phone with clarity.
I've looked at some of the "Clarity" brand phones, but I've not seen great reviews for them. One in particular said that the Clarity phones aren't very loud and the volume on the phone must be adjusted for every call. My grandma has slight dementia, and she will not remember to reset the volume. She won't even remember HOW.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a good amplified phone for her that won't cost $300?

3 AnswersFamily1 decade agoAm I pregnant? Should I take another test?
Here are the details:
1. I have been on birth control (Alesse-28 pill) for 5 years.
2. I stopped taking it January 11th of this year.
3. My last cycle started on January 15th.
4. My husband and I tracked my ovulation with the admittedly less than perfect calendars available online, and we attempted to conceive both before, during, and after these calendars said I would ovulate.
5. My period is now a week late.
6. I took a test the day after I normally have my period, and it said it was negative.
So what now? Am I pregnant? Should I take another test?
Last week at work was VERY stressful, and my periods were so regular before probably just because of the Pill.
What do y'all think?

I LOVE LaunchCast Plus! I have rated over 10,000 songs, 575 artists, and nearly 800 albums!!! And now I'm going to lose it! Is there anything similar out there that allows people to rate music, customize their station, AND (here's the kicker for those of you who were going to suggest that dreadful Pandora) SKIP AS MANY SONGS AS I WANT?
Help!!!

1 AnswerRadio1 decade agoWhy would the amount of taxes taken out of my check change?
January of last year, I asked my employer to take about $65 extra out of my check for federal taxes. Around July, the amount of federal and state taxes withheld went down a little. Then, in the beginning of August, they went down quite a bit more. Why would the amount of taxes taken out of my check change like that? Could my employer have stopped taking out that additional amount? Can they even DO that?
If so, what can I do about it if I end up owing taxes because they stopped taking out the extra taxes I requested?
2 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoWhat other clubs does my husband need?
He's 5'10", about 165 lbs, and right handed. He has a sand wedge and, I think, one iron, although I don't know which.
I want to buy him a new set of clubs, with the exception of these two. I know nothing about golf (seriously - NOTHING), so what do I need to buy for him? Should I just buy him a complete set or get individual clubs?

7 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWhy do you care what African-Americans call each other?
I've seen this same question repeated over and over and over again on Y!A about why black people call each other the "N" word, but it's not okay for white people to do it.
Here's my question: why do white people care what black people call each other? By asking this question, there's an element of "I can't do it, so you shouldn't be able to do it!" followed by a pouty face and a stamp of the foot like a child.
I grew up in a small country farming community, and my friends and I refer to each other as corn-fed country folk from the sticks. This is perfectly acceptable to us, but an outsider to say this would be chopped up and turned into fertilizer. In essence, this is the same thing: a group identifying itself with joking references to what are otherwise derogatory terms.
Why do white people care so darned much what black people call each other? Black people surely don't care what white people say to each other.
I don't understand why white people are so concerned.
10 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWill using a straightening iron on permed hair destroy the perm?
I just got a perm yesterday, and I have no intentions of doing anything with a straightening iron for at least a couple of weeks, if that.
However, I haven't had a perm in over 20 years. My hair is naturally very straight (I'm Asian), and I was sick of it. So I got a perm, and I'm clueless as to how to care for it and what will and will not ruin the curl.
So, if I decide to have my hair straight one day, can I use a straightening iron on it? If I do use a straightening iron on it, will it go back to being curly the next day when I wash it? Or will that make the perm go away?
This may seem like a stupid question, but, again, I haven't had a perm in over 20 years, and there was no such thing as a straightening iron then, not that I would have had one. I was just a little kid. So I'm clueless about perm maintenance.
Also, any advice on how to care for my new curls and keep my hair curly would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
8 AnswersHair1 decade agoWOMEN! Need your help! Can/does your husband ever hold out on you sexually just because?
The cliche is that women hold out on men, but do men actually hold out on women?
I am under the impression that if a woman wants it, she GETS it. And any reason the man might want to hold out is forgotten the moment he realizes he has a chance to have sex.
Let me hear what your experience is.....
17 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoShould a married woman be allowed to hang out with guy friends without her husband?
I have been friends with T since we were 14 years old. We dated for a short while when we were about 16, but decided we were better off as friends. We continued to hang out and talked to each other about our problems all through high school. Shortly after high school for about a year, we lost touch, but started hanging out again when we got back in contact.
Seven years ago, we both moved away from our hometown, and we lost touch again. I just found him on MySpace about 6 months ago, and it's been great getting caught up on everything, rehashing old times, and talking about what's going on now in our lives.
I got married not quite 2 years ago to someone I had been with for 5 years. We have a great relationship, and I feel that we are very open with each other. We have never had a big fight, and we settle our disagreements amicably.
I love my husband. I would never do anything intentionally to hurt him.
However, I also never get any time to myself. ......

2 AnswersHealth Care1 decade agoMy puppy won't eat. What should I do?
Long story short: was given a puppy that was found on the side of the road. We know she was there at least 3 days. She was taken to a vet, where she checked out just fine. She was covered with fleas and ticks, but she was treated for all of that. She is skin and bones, although active and playful.
She must have eaten some wood at some point during her time outside. I could tell the first night she was with us because she was pooping shredded wood. Now she just has major diarrhea.
But she doesn't want to eat her food. The vet's assistants said this puppy ate nonstop when she was in their office. They gave us a Science Diet dry food puppy formula, which she doesn't want to eat.
She has gone for my cat's food (which is canned), but I know that is very bad for her. Yesterday morning she got to it before I could stop her and gobbled the whole thing up.
I don't know what to do to get her to eat her own food, though.
Please help
