  • Is this the reason?

I have seen many Christians give reasons why they don't give more to charity or think their churches should do more for people in need. They often say "Jesus said that the poor will always be with us til the end" Do they really think that they shouldn't help people because the poor will always be with us?

What about the whole speech their Jesus gave about being turned away from Heaven if they did not feed and clothe the poor?

    Isn't that pretty hypocritical?

  • Obama cover?

The cover of the upcoming New Yorker magazine is (accoring to their editor) a bit of satire, just poking fun at all of the absurd rumors surrounding Barak Obama. Ok, that's fine. But do they honestly not realize how many ignorant people (mainly fundies) will use something like that to prove to themselves that the rumors are true?

They are supposedly poking fun at the politics of fear but I wonder if they are not actually feeding that monster.

So how many Christians think the cover is an accurate representation of the Obama's?

I ask here because fundies hang out here...

  • It's not the homosexuality, it's the act?

Many Christians have posted here that simply being homosexual is not a sin. They say that homosexual acts are sinful because it is fornication.

Does that mean that the gay people who have been legally married in Massachusetts and now California are no longer sinning since they are having sex within the confines of marriage?

  • True morality?

We are often told that the Bible is the basis for all morality. If you don't believe in god you can't possibly be moral. You disbelieve so you can lead an immoral life, you don't want to answer for your actions, yada, yada.

But reading answers here I wonder if perhaps the bible hasn't perversely corrupted real morality.

"One must be accountable for their time in this world, if no consequences resulted for those who lived a evil life (ie. pedophiles & gays) what's the point of being good." was a recent answer and is very common. I'm always appaled to see Christians put that in writing because to me it proves that the sole reason they claim any morality at all is to avoid punishment. Not because it's good or beneficial to all to lead good lives but simply to keep their own butts out of hell. If you don't escape hell and get an eternal reward what's the point of being good?

If that isn't a corruption of true morality can someone please explain to me what is?

  • Since it's Memorial Day?

Since it's Memorial Day in the states I wonder how many Christians will stop for a minute to thank all those who have fought and died for our American freedoms - and then turn right around and try to deny those freedoms to gays, atheists, wiccans, etc.

    Are you one of them?

  • Sometimes the Bible is such a puzzle?

What does this verse mean in the Book of Philemon?

Phm 1:20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

  • So where did "evil" come from?

I keep seeing posters insist that their god did not create evil, that evil is a product of Satan or of man. Yet the bible says that god did create evil.

Is the bible wrong or are the posters wrong?

  • What is the difference?

I have seen many posters here attack Islam because they say Islam teaches to kill all non believers. Yet the Bible clearly says to do the very same thing. So what is the difference, really?

For those who haven't read it:

Deu 13:2 If the prophets then say, `Come, let us worship the gods of foreign nations,' Deu 13:3 do not listen to them. The Lord your God is testing you to see if you love him with all your heart and soul. Deu 13:4 Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. Deu 13:5 The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt. Since they try to keep you from following the Lord Since they try to keep you from following the Lord your God, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you.

  • Is this a good example of peaceful, loving Christians?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080420/ap_on_re_mi_ea...

Sure, I know, you will say they are Greeks and Armenians and Orthodox to boot. But they worship the same Christ that you do. Shouldn't they be peaceful and loving especially when celebrating his resurrection?

  • Why are ther Christians in R&S?

A recent answer stated "There ARE no christian religions, because chistianity is NOT A RELIGION! It is a personal relationship with Christ Jesus!"

So if you have no religion why do you hang out here in the religion section?

  • Is it the religion or the growth of a nation?

Christians here frequently criticize Muslims for what they see as poor treatment of women.

I wonder how many of them realize less than150 years ago in the "Christian" US:

Only one state allowed women to own property and then only if they had their husband's permission

A black woman was declared to be property without a right to defend herself against a master's act of rape

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the states had the right to bar a married woman from practicing law.

That women had little or no control over their own earnings

That women were considered chattel by law

That women did not have the right to vote

The list goes on. So is it truly a religious matter or is it simply that the US has finally begun to realize that women should be equal citizens?

  • One man and one woman?

I've asked this before but never got a straight answer.

Where in the Bible does that god define mariiage as only between one man and one woman?

And if he does make that rule why were so many Bible personalities allowed to have hundreds of wives?

  • Does it bother anyone else that people honestly believe this?

  • Christian morals?

If the Bible is the main source for morality and the US is about 80% Christian why is it that the United States puts 0.7 % of its population in prison - a vastly higher percentage than any other nation?

  • Is there a difference between god and God?

Do Christians in general think that anyone who mentions a god is talking about their god? Or is it simply anyone who puts a capital G on God? Don't other religions use that capital G?

I ask because this was part of an answer:

"You say "God" so I can only assume you're referring to Christianity"

  • A loving god?

    Taken from a recent answer:

"Hell will be eternal torment, loneliness, darkness, guilt, shame, and pain. It won't be a party, and you won't know people and "hang out". You will be in terror and torment eternally. You don't have to be sent there, though."

So this is the Christian idea of a loving god? One who would create this eternal torment and allow people to go there - not save them from his wrath - simply for not "believing"? Where, exactly, is the love in that god?

How could people need to be "saved" from an actually loving god??

  • Homosexuality?

Why do so many fundies seem to think it is insulting to atheists to be called homosexuals?

It's not accurate but it certainly isn't insulting.

  • Why is it that?

Why is it that so many Christians who claim to have read and understand the Bible have so much trouble understanding even the most basic concepts of evolution?

One chapter in any good biology book should be enough to get it. Do you not bother to read about it?
