  • Computer screen fading to white but returning to normal when moving the computer - what is this?

I think my computer is doing this because it's overheating but my computer is maybe 5-6 years old and has never done this before. Battery is less than a year old and hard drive is maybe 2 years old. Is this just my computer finally dying or what? It's a Dell T4400?

  • Comfy, affordable sweatpants?

A friend of mine a couple months ago needed to pack up her dorm room to fly back to Canada and, since she couldn't take everything with her, left me a number of her clothes to keep or give away as I liked. She gave this pair of sweatpants that I adore and can't seem to find anything like. They have no tag or brand on them as far as I can tell but they're very comfy and super easy to integrate into my style. They're almost like real nice pants, navy with a little flare at the bottom. Anyway, if something like this sounds familiar to anyone, where could I buy something similar for an affordable price? And by affordable I'm talking, like, no more than $25. Thanks folks!

  • Doctor Who episode similar to Planet of the Dead?

I've been craving some really fun, adventurous Doctor Who episodes, and Planet of the Dead was just what I wanted but now that I've seen it (for the fifth time- oops) I'm trying to think of something similar. I already watched School Reunion (such win) just you all know that's out. I'm also in a David Tennant mood. So, suggestions?? :D

  • Where could I buy some brainy specs?

I have a friend who loves Doctor Who and I would love to get her a pair of brainy specs like the Tenth Doctor wears. Does this exist?

  • Which screwdriver should I pick?

I have just discovered, and completely adore, Doctor Who and I now wish to own my own sonic screwdriver. The trouble is, though I prefer the Ninth/Tenth Doctor's screwdriver, the Eleventh's looks slightly more "realistic" (for lack of better word). I am looking at the screwdrivers on ThinkGeek. I really think I want the Ninth/Tenth Doctor's, but if the Eleventh's is more fun to play with I might want that...

Suggestions? (Please nothing about the show or the Doctors - I just want to know which screwdriver will be most entertaining.)

  • Is there a DVD version of the original Star Wars trilogy with an option for the original theatrical release?

My VHS tapes are wearing out, and I quite honestly cannot handle watching the added CGI anymore. So if anyone knows of a DVD that has, I dunno, an alternate movie option or something, that'd be awesome.

  • "A Second-Hand Turban and a Crystal Ball"?

Does anyone know where to find sheet music for this song? It's from the 1956 Anything Goes film, a duet for two men.

  • Where does Superman put his streetclothes?

I mean, ok, so his costume is under his normal clothes, but where do they go as he spins inside that phone booth? They just kind of disappear, and really now, buying so many new clothes is probably very expensive for a journalist.

  • Should I talk to my teacher about this?

I'm a senior at an arts boarding high school and am playing Susanna (Marriage of Figaro) in our opera workshop performance. I'm double cast with another girl and tech week is fast approaching, but she keeps singing wrong words and (even worse) notes everywhere and it's a total mess. She also missed two days of blocking due to sickness, although supposedly she's "caught up" now.

It's super late in the game, and, for me, it sucks to think that she doesn't get booted simply because of that even though half of her recitative is consistently sung differently and wrong. Especially when I've had everything memorized correctly (I checked with our conductor) for over a month.

So should I mention this concern to him, or just pray she learns her part? I can't MAKE her practice.

  • What kind of diet helps get rid of a cold?

I'm a singer with college auditions coming up in two weeks and I've just gotten the first symptoms of a cold. I've been drinking a lot of water and taking Cold-Eeze every 3-4 hours.

What I was wondering was if I should be eating more or less, or certain kinds of things.

  • Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano Duets?

My roommate and I are preparing songs for a senior recital. There needs to be at least 14 songs in the program. Our plan is for her to sing six songs, for me to sing six songs, and to open and close with duets.

We would like suggestions of art songs/arias/oratorios that do not include the Lakme duet or the duets from Cosi fan Tutte.

  • Alternate ending to "Deh vieni non tardar"?

My opera workshop class is doing Le Nozze de Figaro and the audition song for Susanna the teacher has required is Deh vieni non tardar. My teacher had told me something about an alternate ending for it, but I can't remember it except it supposedly goes up to a B and it's during the second, "incoronar". If anyone knows what I'm talking about and could find an example of someone singing it, that would be 10 points and a virtual hug for them.

  • What are some famous silly cartoon voices?

My friend and I (both girls) have been planning an Amateur Voice Over Club for school this year. We happen to go to an arts boarding high school where people have different kinds of majors, and we want to joke around by saying something like, "Oh hi, you're a cello major? Neat, I'm a silly-voice-making major!" So we want to have a few voices to toss around. :) I have a near-perfect Minnie Mouse impression down, but can't think of any others off the top of my head. Ideas?

  • Any good cartoons with characters like these?

My friend and I have been itching to do some voice acting. I can do anything female with a medium-dark voice to squeaky creatures to little kids to cats. My friend is a bass with a large voice, but also can do higher-pitched voices, usually on the bright side.

So! Does anyone know off the top of their heads of a scene that we could dub over for fun?

  • Does the Japanese language not have the "L" sound or the "R" sound?

I have a friend who has taken extensive years of Japanese and has hosted Japanese students in her house that says that the Japanese language has the syllable "L" but not "R". My sister, who is taking Japanese now and much more recently than the other girl, says the opposite. Could someone who speaks Japanese as a first language please clarify? If you've taken a Japanese class in an American school, please forgive me if I don't entirely trust your judgement.

  • What is this program called and did it ever end?

I remember they used to show clips of it on The Amanda Show. It was some ridiculous melodrama. Her dad lost his toe and it turned out she wasn't his actual daughter, all the while worrying about some guy who was a stereotypical "bad boy". Also, there was a girl who got electrocuted a lot. I just remember being pissed because I wanted to know how it ended, but I don't think they ever finished it.

  • What is the name of this weed?

It's been in my yard ever since I was a kid and someone is asking me what it's called and I have no idea. It can grow to be really tall and the leaves are spiky-looking and all over it is something that looks like a white fuzz but is actually thousands of tiny, painful needles. The closest thing that looks like it is a thistle, but it doesn't have flowers; if it grows long enough it starts to develop a sort of tough, brown skin.

Do you know what this is?
