  • Teachers: What do you say to this parent's request?

A parent of one of your students in your classroom approaches you on the playground before the bell rings requesting their child be moved away from a particular child with a behavioral problem. The parent is also requesting a possible change of teachers, claiming his/her son refuses to attend school because of this "problem" child. How do you deal with this? What if you've changed your seating arrangement already to accommodate this situation? Should parent's be able to meddle with their child's classroom/education in this manner?

  • Can someone help me with this IEP?

I have a case study which requires me to make an action plan for an IEP team, however I'm not exactly sure where to begin. Here is what I have to address:

    1. The steps the team should take in assessing and determining the student's eligibility for special education.

    2. Members of the IEP team and why they should be invited.

    3. Areas of educational need that the student has

    4. Goals that the IEP team could work toward during the next academic year.

    About the student:

He is in 5th grade, but reads at the first grade level. He understands the alphabet and the sounds of letters, but struggles to decode words. His math performance is at the 3rd grade level. He understands addition, subtraction and multiplication, but struggles with division, fractions, and word problems. He talks out during instruction and frequently gets out of his seat during independent work. His teacher is concerned with his speech and he struggles making friends. He has started begging his parents to let him stay home from school.

Note: This is not a real student.

I understand IEPs/action plans can vary, I just need a little help or guidance. Any help is appreciated! Thank you,

    Kris.

  • Brown v. Board of Education?

This is a question from a study guide for my history class. Caught between two answers - what do you think?

The central tenant of Brown v. Board of Education was what?

    A:

It was illegal for African American and Caucasian students to be educated separately.

    B:

The Department of Education should spend extra money and resources on schools in low-income areas.

    C:

Education that was separate could never be equal, and was thereby unconstitutional.

    D:

Segregated schools are constitutional as long as administrators could prove that they were spending the same amount of money in both places.

  • THANK YOU Gift for coworker/teacher?

My coworker's last day is tomorrow (we are preschool teachers, I was her TA). She is moving away to a different country. I have written her a thank you letter, but I'm not sure what sort of gift I could get her. I don't want to resort to a gift card. What is something that I could get for her? I am 21, and she is 33, if it helps create gift ideas.

I was thinking of getting her one of those plastic tumbler cups with the straws and filling it with little things like lip balm, gum, etc, but I haven't decided yet if that's what I want to get her.

    Any ideas?

  • John Lennon - Imagine. Who do these lyrics appeal to?

I have answered various questions regarding the lyrics of this song, including how it impacted society. I m not exactly sure how to answer this last question.

Who do the lyrics from the song "imagine" appeal to?

I would say that they appeal to anyone seeking peace, but that is really a broad answer.

  • Shake, Rattle and Roll lyrics... "DIRTY LYRICS" ?

For my online music class I have to answer this:

Listen to "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and then referencing at least two verses in the song, explain why these were considered suggestive and possibly inappropriate.

I'm not sure how exactly to do this.. I mean, there are obvious lines to put in to the answer, but how do I explain "WHY."

Here are some versus from the song that are suggestive and inappropriate:

    "And way down underneath

You make me roll my eyes

Even make me grit my teeth"

    and

    "Way you wear those dresses

    The sun comes shinin' through

    Way you wear those dresses

    The sun comes shinin' through

    I can't believe my eyes

All that mess belongs to you"

  • Does whistleblowing VIOLATE company LOYALTY?

    If so, why?

    If not, why?

I am arguing this in class tomorrow and I'm wondering what other people think. Do you have a duty to be loyal to your company? Or do your morals and ethics overcome that loyalty?

  • What would have been the outcome if I was hit?

I was driving to school and I was making a left turn. I had a yellow blinking arrow, so I proceeded with caution. Once I was clear to go, I started my turn. Two men (seemingly homeless) then ran into the crosswalk half-way through my turn. They were not supposed to be in the cross walk. At this point, my yellow arrow turned red. One of the homeless men dropped something so it took even longer for me to complete my turn. The cars to the left of me, while I was in the intersection, did not wait for me to complete my turn, they all just floored it as if I wasn't even there.

Nothing came of it. I was able to safely make it to school. Would it have been my fault if I was hit?
