In my state alone I can think of three local rural places to shoot and they are all called "The English Pit". Across the river in Washington is a privatey owned shooting range called the English Pit. I have found in a lot of amerifan literature referencdes to someone going out to "The English Pit" to do some shooting.

Whatg is the deal with the name English Pit? Does anyone know?

  • Red Devil Dragon Skin... How old?

I have acquired a single sheet package 5x6 inches of Red Devil Dragon Skin. Super hardened steel sandpaper No. 3331 (DS-1). It is an all cardboard package with no plastic of any kind on it. The blurb on the package is all in English...no spanish like the newer ones. And the address on the pack just says Union NJ USA. No zip code, no phone number . And the price on this single is .25 cents.

I have foun a few on e-bay with multilingual labels and zip codes that go for way more than I would ever pay for one.

My question is, can anyone tell me how old this thing is? Does it have any value or can I use it as a nutmeg grater...it would be perfect!!

  • Anyone speak Sameh ( lapplander)? Or Romani?

I would like the translation into Sameh of the english word goodbye and , if possible, the spanish word Adios. None of the translator sites list Sameh or Lapp as languages they translate to or from. Either of those words into Romani (Gypsy) would be appreciated also.

  • A correction is offered?

A while back I answered a question about Scotch. I identified LaPhroiag as being from the Isle of Skye. I was wrong. It is from the Isle of Islay. And it is still good stuff. What comes from the Isle of Skye, according to legends, stories and just plain advertising, is Drambuie. Better than good.

My apology is offered to all. Especially my ancestors from Dalhousie.

When I watch Mario and Giada and Rocco and Nadia G I notice a decided lack of herbage being used in a lot of their real italian dishes. • laptop to printer question?

I have an HP laptop and a brother printer. I am nearly out of magenta ink and it wont print anything with red in it. Not the problem. It will print all black text. But...there are a few items in my print buffer that have red in them that I no longer want. How do I empty the print buffer so I can print something all black. This set up empties the buffer by printing, if it can, whatever is in it in order of insertion. I cant make it skip the red and go to the all black. How do I dump the buffer.? I am not going to pay 35 bucks for a single ink cartridge for a printer that is being replaced next week (I need the letter printed before that).

  • i want to deep fry a chicken or duck.?

what I need to know is how many minutes per pound. I will be using one of those home made deep fryers like they use for turkeys. No lectures on safety please, three firemen are invited to the party. The birds will be brined and I will be using peanut oil. What I cant find anywhere is a time/pound ratio. One site says wait till they float. Another just says quicker than a turkey. No help. Anyone done this?

  • how do you warn the future?

we all know that radioactive isotopes have a half life of tens of thousands of years. Radioactive waste will be dangerous for tens of thousands of generations. Considering the evolution of language that will naturally happen how would you mark a radioactive waste dump so that distant future generations wont dig into it and create a radioactive mess? Pictographs? Monumental structures? A guardian priesthood? What do you think would be effective ten thousand years from now?
