  • How to sun-proof my car this summer to keep it cool?

I might have to live out of my car this summer---I'm debating on whether or not to get a storage unit or just keep everything in my car. I will have to keep my guitar and clothes in my car among other things that probably should not be continuously exposed to 130 degrees. Can I put sun screens up in all the windows, crack them (with a fan?), and put a sun screen on my roof? Or is there such thing as a sun protective car cover? If I pair this with parking in the shade will I be golden? Thanks!

The other option is to leave stuff at camp up the canyon which I am not too keen on doing in case it gets stolen...

  • How do you *really* have sex?

So I had sex for the first time last night and it felt like a total mess on my part! I had no idea what I was doing haha. And obviously he was experienced. I’m actually kind of embarrassed because I’m sure that was the worst sex he’s had in a long time.

    So:

How the hell do you have sex?

I know it’s different for every partner but generally what the hell am I supposed to do?

Is one position boring? How often should I switch?

Should I let him control the whole time or is that rude and I should make some of the moves?

If he foreplays me, do I need to foreplay or hj/bj him back?

If he moves one way, do I move towards him so we ram into each other, same direction as him (up I guess?), or just let him control it and don’t move?

When he’s down there with his mouth is it possibly to be too squirmy?

What should I NOT do—beginner mistakes?

This isn’t a relationship, it’s casual, maybe every once and a while sex with a friend / acquaintance… that kind of thing. So I’m not going to get that much practice. It would be good to know some etiquette for next time at the very least. Maybe a little bit about what makes sex bad so I can avoid doing those things…

  • Going green: Dr. Bronner's vs. baking soda / vinegar?

So I've switched to baking soda and vinegar for cleaning and for shampoo/conditioner, but I recently read an article that said these are mostly disinfectants--it is sometimes better to use soap and some elbow grease to *clean* things rather than *disinfect* them.

I've always avoided soap because it is not biodegradable (or else really expensive if it is), but being able to use soap products will allow me to have biodegradable toothpaste (apparently) among other things--straight baking soda is too abrasive to use regularly for most hygiene care. Dr. Bronners is biodegradable along with a whole string of other environmentally/people friendly things.

    1) Both methods can be used for a variety of things though--so which is better for what?

    Shampoo & conditioner

    toothpaste

    body soap

    laundry detergent/soap

    dishes

    household cleaning

    2) I mix vinegar with dish soap to clean the shower--the soap makes the vinegar stick to the wall so it doesn't just run down the sides before it starts to work. But I guess the sudsiness is always due to crazy chemicals that are put in to make it seem likes stuff works--usually all these other soaps are not sudsy (very true with baking soda/ vinegar system). Does anyone know if there is a way to get a sudsy/sticky yet biodegradable mix with vinegar to clean the shower?

    Thanks!!

  • Living in the canyon for the summer--being voluntarily homeless?

So I'm seriously debating over whether it is a good or bad idea to go live in the canyon this summer instead of renting an apartment. I love the outdoors and I could save a lot of money by just camping up there. No rent, no utilities, and natural living! I also think it will be a really good learning experience.

My plan so far is to rent a storage unit with electricity for all my crap. That way I could have a mini fridge and a place to plug in an electric griddle if need be. I would still have my car. I am a student at the university so I'd use the gym's showers, campus internet, etc... Then I could rotate through campsites every week so I'm not too suspicious.

I think this town consistently rates one of the top safest towns in America so I really doubt I need to worry about creepers. And the campsites are usually well kept so I feel like large animals will steer clear. And like I said, I still have my car in case of emergency.

Am I forgetting anything? Should I be worried about anything else? Any personal experiences?

    Thanks

  • Could I have damaged my eyes from a laser?

So today in my physics lab I was reading about how we should avoid looking into the laser at all costs because it could damage your eye instantly (it is a 632.8nm sodium laser). Just then, my partner was adjusting the slit screen and the laser reflected off the surface into my eye. Could I have gotten eye damage? Is the reflection enough to do that?

  • If I get a tattoo on Friday, can I go snowboarding on Sunday?

I'm getting it friday afternoon right above my ankle. I don't think I will sweat because it's pretty cold up there--and I don't care about if I seep a little bit of ink into my socks. I can wrap it up good so that any friction in my boot will be against the wrapping instead of my skin (although I don't think there will be much friction, I think the boot flexes with my foot instead of against it). I heard it feels like working out with a sunburn? Will I be okay to go? It will be about a day and a half after I got it and I think I heal pretty fast with most things.

  • Can I snowboard after getting a tattoo on my ankle?

I'm getting my first tattoo! it wraps around my leg a little right above my ankle and then goes down a little onto my foot (it's a tribal lizard). I'm getting it friday afternoon. Will I be okay to go snowboarding on Sunday? Snowboard boots are pretty tight so should I just wrap it up or is it gonna hurt too much? Also I do irish dancing but I don't think there's more ankle movement than walking. Will I be okay to resume on Monday? Tips? Thanks!

  • How to find a peaceful, balanced mind?

I feel super unbalanced mentally. Every little thing upsets me and I always complain. I feel like I judge things often, especially myself. I know I am unpleasant to be around often and I really want to change that about me. I want to be a happy, optimistic person again like I was a few years ago. I went through a hard experienced and had depression for a over a year--it has made some negative pathways in my mind that are mostly just bad habits now. I am trying to get back into yoga as well. My body is pretty balanced, but my mind is just out of whack!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to not get upset over things? To let them be, especially to let other people do their own things and not take problems personally or feel like I need to make them better (my version of better)? I want the mind of a yogi too...

    Thanks for the help.

  • Centerpiece fish to add to my tank?

20G long with 40g Fluval underwater filter, 2 little heaters on either end (usually keep it around 78). I have 4 neon tetras, 3 Julii cories (on both of these I am trying to stock up to 6 each). Also 3 ADFs. I used to have a betta as my centerpiece fish but I have had trouble keeping them alive from the pet stores... should I keep trying with bettas or is there another fish (with personality, if possible) that you would recommend getting? Thanks!

  • 1500 calorie diet without the counting?

I was just wondering if anyone knew what a day of 1500 calories roughly looked like so I don't have to stress over actually counting the calories? (I live in a dorm so it's impossible for me to actually know what's in the food they serve.)

Here's what I have been able to do consistently so far:

1 hard-boiled egg and a wheat ego waffle with honey and fruit at 8

    a small salad at 11

a cup of soup at 3 (any good ideas for something else small and substantial?)

a dinner at 6 consisting of mostly meat and starchy things with a little bit of veggies sometimes (like chicken pasta, or whatever meat they have and potatoes, etc...) Here's where my calories go bunk. I have no idea what goes in here--I try to go for just small servings of only 3 things so they don't fill up my plate

hot chocolate or some kind of dessert at 9

Is there anything I should be careful of that would add a ton of calories really fast? Any ideas of what I can eat in the afternoon? Another option instead of a salad and soup is to buy a sub sandwich and eat a 1/4 early and a 1/4 late and save the other half for the same the next day.

    Thanks for the help!

  • What is built underneath a hardwood floor?

I got a 24 sq ft piece of laminate hardwood floor to practice Irish Dancing on. I just have it on really thin carpet (whatever the dorm floors are made of)... but there's absolutely no spring to the floor. Is there some way I can mimic a normal house floor by putting it on a platform or something so there's enough spring for me to dance on? I was thinking putting it on 2x2in beams in a frame? So like two 48x2x2 pieces hammered to 72x2x2in pieces for the perimeter, plus however many down the middle that I need to not snap the laminate? I have no idea how to build stuff (100% willing to learn everything there is to know!) so super basic answers would be awesome! I guess my questions are:

    1) How do I build a 4x6ft platform to mimic the under part of a hardwood floor in a house?

    2) What is the cheapest way?

    3) I am moving in the spring, how do I make it so I can take it apart and then put it back together again? (Is there such thing as removable screws that don't damage the wood?)

    Thanks so much!!!

  • Non-horse companion for a horse experiences?

I think one day I would like to have a horse--I heard that you can keep other animals as companions for them such as goats, sheep, and alpacas? Does anyone else have a "herd" of different animals? Stories? Do you know if just one of each works or for example do alpacas need a same-species friend? Thanks!

  • Used turkey baster as funnel for gasoline, how to clean for food use?

I had to use a turkey baster as a funnel so I could empty the last bits of gas into my tank out of the gas can (my car ran out of gas), is there a way that I can clean the baster so that it's safe to use for food preparation again? I rinsed it out really good and right now it is soaking in hot, soapy water. If I let it soak and then rinse it out with bleach or vinegar or something will it be okay? Or should I throw it out... :/ Thanks!

  • Super beginning stretching and modified yoga?

I used to be pretty decent at yoga--for example, my downward dog looked like a triangle. I mean my heels didn't touch the ground, but at least my legs were straight. Now after recovering from a back injury, the swelling has left my right leg so unflexible that some mornings I wake up with such a tight calf muscle I can't even get it down on the floor. I have to stand with one heel raised until my leg is warmed up enough to walk normally. As for yoga--I've gotten my back stretchy enough to be able to do child's pose again (can you believe it?! my back was so tight I couldn't even get my belly against my thighs at the very beginning!!), but there's no way I can do downward dog! Does anyone have any ideas for super modified yoga? Or do I just need to keep working on hamstrings and calves till I can do a stink bug like downward dog and work up from there? I guess my main problem is that I am SO unflexible that I feel pathetic! I mean, for goodness sake, sitting on the floor with my right leg straight on the ground is a stretch! I'm super lacking motivation because every time I stretch I feel terrible. It's such a long journey just back to just getting normal it overwhelms me and I don't even want to start. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help :/

  • Best brands for WOMEN's snowboarding gear?

So I've been shopping around online and I'm really disappointed in the amount of gear that's available for women. Not only are there usually about four times more options for men than women, but everything new seems to be researched and fit only for men in mind. This got me thinking: In your opinion, what are the best brands for women? So far I was really only impressed with Burton and Gnu. Burton claims to have tru-fit technology made around the foot of a woman (vs. just a smaller more flexible version of whatever other brands make for men, which they say *everyone else* does). Gnu seemed to have asked the opinions of women and somewhat designed for women. Ride, K2, and Never Summer were the other brands that I looked at that left me a little frustrated. What do you think?

  • Double sleeping bag for winter camping?

I want to go winter backpacking... It's nicer than in the summer :) I just need to get a warmer sleeping bag--mine is technically rated for 0 degrees right now but I've gotten cold on warmer nights. Should I find an extra-large sleeping bag that's rated 40 or something? What should I do? Thanks!!
