Is anyone interested in forming a christian religion for "average" people?
Why not? Surely there has to be people who are interested in God and in changing people's lives positively but who are not religious nuts . Religious nuts etc are driving people away from God. Why not start a new religion that recognizes "we are what we are". For example reach out to single Mom's- Jesus was born to a single Mom. The original religion was not for the righteous, it was for people who were marginalized and called "sinners". It helped people "fit in" and not feel "left out" by people screaming scripture at people to emphasize how great they were themselves or how much better than you or I they were.
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoChristoph Luxenberg- his ideas about Islam do make sense?
BBC have a lot of tv programs about Ramadan this month and one dealt with the Holy Qur'an. I have always felt that as western christians our whole take on Jesus and God was very influenced by Roman ideas of men becoming gods and gods becoming saints etc. You read in the acts of the apostles about Jesus family after he is crucified forming communities and we also know the gnostics in the region were destroyed by the roman christians. Surely there had to be a belief in Jesus by the people of that region that differs from modern christianity ? Jesus would have been just one of them rather than the figure of christ we poetically created. Perhaps Islam is a window to the past of those christians who lived in the middle east after jesus died and whom we know little of?
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality8 years agoRape in Islamic countries?
Is it true that in refugee camps in african Islamic countries that the women are afraid to visit the latrines at night because they would be vulnerable to rape i.e. that once you expose yourself you are a fair target for rape as a woman.
Also, is this why the Muslim women are so modest (because they could be raped by the men who would claim they were improperly dressed)
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoDebt forgiveness in Ireland for mortgage defaulters:?
Why don't the banks simply accept what people can pay as rent or the government legislate for a low rent for defaulters? Surely, in all honesty most people unable to pay their mortgages would have less than 10 % of their loan paid off to date anyhow so the concept of debt forgiveness makes no sense.

I'm just trying to read his word salad 2083 manifesto....it's so antigay I reckon this guy has problems with his own sexuality like a modern day J Edgar Hoover. He looks so girly too in his photos. My guess is he has to be gay

17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you really believe the Multiverse exists and is responsible for creation from nothing?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240527487042...
This is the opinion of the very respected Stephen Hawking. The Multiverse is based on an interpretation of Quantum Mechanics by Everett which states that the existence of possible eigenstates on the quantum scale holds true for the macroscale world we live in, in particular that if more than one outcome of an event is possible then each outcome has happened in seperate universes. Thus, while it may seem miraculous to us that all the right ingredients for life came into place and on target to allow us to exist presently, this is simply one universe where the particular set of laws for life were found and that a possibly infinite set of other universes lacking some of these laws of physics also exist where no life can exist.
Isn't this even more unbelieveable than the explanations of organised religions?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoNeanderthal and Humans interbreeding? Is this the origin of racism?
Could the ideas of racial purity which seem to exist inately in most human peoples derive from the times when another species of man co-existed and, if so, would it be fair to speculate that interbreeding between the two species resulted in disasterous offspring largely which has stayed with us in modern times and is the reason why cultures frown on interbreeding?

1 AnswerAnthropology1 decade agoWhat is the oldest book written eg Iliad etc or What is the oldest example of writing?
I'm getting interested in this 2012 prophecy stuff and I'm just fascinated by when writing actually began...i.e. say our species of man was 200,000 years on earth why one day out of the blue people invented writing and for much of these 200,000 years were men by and large without a means of recording history.
I'm also trying to understand did some fundamental change in early man's brains allow this to happen .
I'm also interested as to why in ancient books God or gods seem to regularly chat with humans in old books e.g. the Bible , the Iliad and yet nowadays we rarely see humans who experience religious encounters... did some other change in brain structure reduce the number of people with these religious experiences.
Also, were there hallucinogenic drugs in use in the ancient world or possible outbreaks of fungal crop infections such as ergotism (LSD) that might explain why people regularly communicated with Gods back then in literature
Anyone got any ideas?
2 AnswersAnthropology1 decade agoBy any chance is someone in the Obama administration wikileaking to end the Wars?
The whole point of electing Obama was to put an intellectual slant on defeat in the War on Terror and to apply the old liberal formula of "reasoning" with enemies. The wikileaks surely benefit this agenda ( Not necessarily Obama who is simply the posterboy of American intellectualism but the guys in the background who are behind every poster boy politician elected)?

1 AnswerLyrics1 decade agoDoes God evolve and man create?
What does Craig Venter's feat in creating a living organism from inert chemicals really mean : No God? Has to be a Creator? All life is dead anyhow if dead chemicals cane be made into life?
Anyone shocked by what he's done ?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy did religious experience evolve ?
Joseph suggested
that we are able to hear and see because there were
and are vital auditory and visual stimuli in the surrounding
environment; and in order to perceive and analyse this information, the human brain possessed specialised structures
or circuits capable of doing so. According to Joseph
(2001) the same evolutionary principles should be applied
to religious experience.
Therefore, from an evolutionary point of view, religious
experience must contribute to the survival of those capable
of experiencing it. In another words it should be adaptive
