Family filter for all Wifi devices on a network?
I'm looking for an effective way to filter all internet content for any device that connects to the wifi Internet in our home. I'd like to be able to configure filtering levels and time & day internet acces restrictions per user.
I've tried locally installed products like K9, but having to install and maintain software on every single wifi enabled device is very costly, an administrative nightmare, and doesn't prevent inappropriate internet use on visitor devices.
So far the best option I'm aware of is Netgear's Live Parental Controls using OpenDNS. This is actually a completely free service available to anyone with a compatible DSL modem/router.
I purchased the Netgear D6300 modem/router specifically for this purpose, but had issues getting it to work for more than 1 device. I was working with OpenDNS customer service to find a fix when a lightning strike fried the modem part of the device :-(
Before spending another $285 NZD on a new Netgear, I just wanted to find out if anyone (preferably in New Zealand) has had success with Netgear's Live Parental Controls, or if anyone has any alternative suggestions?
2 AnswersComputer Networking7 years agoWhy does Netgear Live Parental Controls block internet completely?
I want to make use of Netgear's free parental control utility to filter my home network.
I have installed the Live Parental Control (LPC) Management Utility on my laptop, but soon as I enable it, rather than just filtering certain websites, all devices (except my laptop) lose internet connectivity completely.
Router: Netgrear D6300
Devices: 3x Windows laptop (Win XP & Win7), 1x Andriod phone, 2x Android tablet, 1x iPod

For the last 12 months during the build of our new home, 3/4 of our belongings have been stored in a shipping container. When we unloaded the container today, we discovered mold on the surface of some furniture items, and on the ceiling of the container.
Some of the mold is very black in color, which raises the concern that it could be the dreaded Stachybotrys chartarum.
The mold has formed primarily on the surface of furniture in the front of the container, which was most exposed to the surrounding air and condensation forming as the container cooled down at night. The stacked boxes of clothing and other house hold items don't have any visible signs of mold.
We hate the idea of introducing mold spores to our brand new home, and we would consider discarding some of the most affected items (some tired MDF cabinetry), but we can hardly afford to replace 3/4 of our furniture and belongings.
How concerned should we be about invisible mold spores on the surface of the storage boxes etc., and other furniture items?
There's a lot of conflicting information about mold on the web, ranging from "all black colored mold is highly toxic, and anything that has been exposed to it should be discarded" to "not all black colored mold is toxic, just clean items that have visible mold growth, and discard any infected items that are too porous to clean effectively."
How would you suggest we deal with this mold problem?
3 AnswersAllergies7 years agoIs British tapware compatible with New Zealand plumbing?
Hi,
We'd like to purchase some basin and kitchen taps and shower fixtures from the UK, but we aren't sure if the British standard tap thread would be compatible with standard NZ plumbing threads.
