Classical: are you able to enjoy popular music for completely different reasons?
For example, I enjoy musically simple/untalented punk bands with catchy background music as an excuse to rant about politics/the government/etc. over,
as well as classical and jazz. I am able to apply totally difference standards of what quality is to each.
BQ: What do you think of popular musicians calling their instrumentals "songs"? I listen to lots of instrumental metal, bluegrass and jazz, and the performers will call everything a song.
1 AnswerClassical5 years agoWhy isn't goth and associated music as mainstream as hardcore punk and metal?
There's an endless supply of post-hardcore, hardcore punk, and metal bands and followers all over the place, but far less of goth and post-punk, except for a few gothic metal bands and such. Why?
3 AnswersRock and Pop5 years agoBLUES: I need some guidance on TAJ MAHAL and BUDDY GUY?
I see reviews of Buddy Guy suggesting that he has a weird mix of 'free jazz', rock, etc. in his live shows...but the greatest hits cd I have by him is just regular blues. Where can I find this "out there" stuff? Can you give me some albums or tracks
Same for Taj Mahal: What should I look for to find some of his mix of Blues with World Music and African Music? Tracks and Albums
2 AnswersBlues5 years agoDo European countries have multi-party systems when it comes to elections? Do different parties get to win, are parties taken seriously?
Sure, the Green Party and the Libertarian Party exist, but they don't really get taken seriously by enough people, and you have for example
Libertarians begrudgingly voting for Republicans so that their vote counts
1 AnswerPolitics5 years agoWhy are there atheist Republicans and gay log cabin republicans? Why aren't they libertarians instead? Do they think libertarians can't win?
....or is it about disagreements, such as wanting strong military, which wouldn't be libertarian?
3 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhat's the deal with Go Set a Watchman, compared to To Kill a Mockingbird?
I've only seen the movie.
It makes it sound like "racial equality hero" man has, for no reason, done a 180 and become racist.
>>Was he just "doing his duty as a lawyer" in to kill a mockingbird, then?
3 AnswersBooks & Authors5 years agoWhat are moderate muslims expected to do about terrorism/ISIS/radical Islam. I see/hear people commenting that moderates don't "do anything"?
What are random Muslim college students and storeowners and plumbers and whatever else supposed to be "doing" about ISIS besides denouncing them on social media?
10 AnswersPolitics5 years agoAtheists, what do you say to people about magical exemptions from logic such as these?
For example, Christians that think "no true Christian" ["no true scotsman"] would kill or rape, because God magically takes over the behavior of Christians?
Rather than Christianity being a set of information to be believed, it involves this magical brainwashing and behavior change by a supernatural being
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years agoDoes "inverse spectrum" colorblindness exist? Is it/ Would it even detectable?
Not where people have trouble differentiating things, but for example:
I and the inverse colorblind guy both agree that a shade is white, but he sees yellow or something, and has a 1-to-1 trade off for every color that exists, so ends up learning the same names for every color.
2 AnswersOptical6 years agoWhat is your opinion on specifically categorizing music down to subgenres?
As for me i like it. If I'm asking for metal bands, that could get me everything from Pig Destroyer to Motorhead to Dragonforce, none of which sound alike, so categorizing serves a purpose there.
If I were to ask for rock, that could get everything from Elvis Presley to some goth rock bands to Nickelback to... etc.
Do the people that don't like categorizing music just not listen to that much of it? Or just play music as background music for other activities?
13 AnswersRock and Pop6 years agoWhat does the band DEATHSPELL OMEGA really believe?
Their confusing philosophical lyrics are awesome but I still can't quite wrap my head around it.
I don't understand whether:
1. They think Satan will lose in a war against God, and are worshipping him anyway to be more evil.
2. They think Satan will win against God.
3. They're mad that humans are the pawns of God and Satan
4.????
2 AnswersRock and Pop6 years agoDid breakdowns actually come from metal rather than oldschool hardcore?
Trying to find the origins of metalcore and deathcore breakdowns leads me to Pantera, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Metallica(in One), Slayer's Raining Blood etc.
I can't find the supposed "hardcore roots" of metalcore breakdowns despite looking.
4 AnswersRock and Pop6 years agoPHILOSOPHY, what do you think of this quote?
“This much I'm certain of: it doesn't happen immediately. You'll finish it and that will be that, until a moment will come, maybe in a month, maybe a year, maybe even several years. You'll be sick or feeling troubled or deeply in love or quietly uncertain or even content for the first time in your life. It won't matter. Out of the blue, beyond any cause you can trace, you'll suddenly realize things are not how you perceived them to be at all. For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were. You'll detect slow and subtle shifts going on all around you, more importantly shifts in you. Worse, you'll realize it's always been shifting, like a shimmer of sorts, a vast shimmer, only dark like a room. But you won't understand why or how. You'll have forgotten what granted you this awareness in the first place
...
You might try then, as I did, to find a sky so full of stars it will blind you again. Only no sky can blind you now. Even with all that iridescent magic up there, your eye will no longer linger on the light, it will no longer trace constellations. You'll care only about the darkness and you'll watch it for hours, for days, maybe even for years, trying in vain to believe you're some kind of indispensable, universe-appointed sentinel, as if just by looking you could actually keep it all at bay. It will get so bad you'll be afraid to look away, you'll be afraid to sleep.
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys6 years agoAtheists, have you received the obstinate armchair psychoanalysis from believers?
As in a believer thinking "hmm you must really be mad at God. What did some churchgoer do to you? Are you mad about the world? Have you been mistreated" NO MATTER HOW MANY times you tell them you don't see evidence for God
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years agoWhat do I do about it? Not having friends?
I'm an introvert and probably also shy (those aren't the same thing).
Anyway, I guess I'm a bit selfish because I only want friends for the reason of fitting social norms...
for example, when i want to go to a restaurant or a concert, it's for the specific food i've never tried, or to hear the music...not for the other people
But there's things like fine dining or the downtime between bands playing at bars where I feel I'll be stared at/"weird" for doing things alone.
On my own, I tend to get-overanalytical and enjoy it, yet can get saddened by too much of it

1 AnswerPolitics6 years agoAtheists and Christians, are these views a "choice"?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years agoIs this pro-sweatshop article valid?
http://www.nytimes.com/2000/09/24/magazine/two-che...
Basically, it boils down to the fact that giving these underpaid people some kind of employment is better than putting the places out of business altogether.
