  • What is the volume of a photon? Neutrino?

I think that neutrinos may have volume, and that this volume is huge, like the size of a pea. The volume of a photon, which has more mass is probably smaller- the size of a glycene molecule. Neutrons would be puny. What's more, I think that this could easily be tested by comparing particle volume to diffraction in transparent materials.

If this is halfway correct, it would explain why neutrinos are so difficult to detect, they don't go through matter, they go around it. Like ghosts.

Any feedback? Could particle volume be inversely related to mass?

  • How do we get income from tips declared exempt from taxes?

Waitresses are food mules. They work their butts off, usually to feed their families. And our government has figured out how to use credit and debit card information to force them to pay taxes on their tips.

It ain't fair. How can I start a movement in this election year to get the IRS to let waitresses keep their money?

  • Has anyone ever made yarn out of Kudzu?

Yeah, I'm asking this on the chemistry page.

Kudzu is tough and stringy, much like bamboo, which makes pretty good yarn. Has anyone ever ganked the fibers out of the plant that ate Atlanta, and made some string out of it?

  • Congresspeople with an education background?

I have a teaching idea and some proof that it works. If it is going to be used in public schools, it needs No-Child-Left-Behind approval. I am pretty sure it meets the requirements, but it is unfamiliar to most Teachers. If I ask the education department to approve it, they will send me a stack of paperwork to fill out.

I need a congessperson or similar high mucky-muck to cut through the red tape.

Who in government is seriously interested in elementary education, particularly beginning reading or remedial reading?

  • Tea Partiers and Timber Taxation? Threatened Species?

I dunno how to ask this?

I went birdwatching with a group last weekend, and a woman described her troubles with the G-vment. It seems she owns some scrub-land in North-Carolina, and last year the Forest Service came by and told her the timber on the land was valuable, and she would have to pay $1500 in taxes on it instead of the $100 she had been paying. She wound up having the trees cut, the tax bill was too high.

This irritates us birdwatchers. The birds that nest in mature trees and large undisturbed forests are all in decline, yet the gvment enforces this sort of logging policy? Is it corporate welfare?

Is there some way to sic the Tea Party on the Forest Service?

  • Good Veggie Toppings for Pizza?

What goes good on a home-made pizza? I've had good luck with onions and peppers together, and spinach-olive-fetacheese, but the others, (mushrooms), just aren't making the grade.

I make small pizzas, and I use cast-iron fajita pans for pizza stones.

  • JavaScript vs Microsoft Macros?

I have a big project that involves replacing a lot of text with HTML code. Is it worth the effort to learn Javascript? I have been using the Macros thing that comes with Microsoft Word, and it works OK.

    I really stink at this!!!!!!!!

  • How do you pass screening tests?

I live in an area where unemployment is the leading industry. I'm bored out of my skin, and I want to work.

I've applied for jobs at Wal*Mart and Lowes Lumber, and flunked the online screening tests at both places. What, praytell, do these corporations want to hear from job applicants? What I wouldn't give to see their employee handbooks!

  • History of Bruschetta?

    Bruschetta?

What is it, how do you make it and eat it?

I've been making Foccia bread for half a year now, and my wife never liked it umtil last night. I made a batch, (2 cups bread flour, 1 cup semolina), and topped it with some feta cheese and some artichoke bruschetta that she had picked up on the sale rack. She wolfed it down!

I think I better learn something about bruschetta if I am going to keep making foccia bread!

  • How do I get an office job?

I'm pushing 50, and I want to work at a local library. I am an excellent worker, but I lok like crap on paper. I don't have experience on some of the computer programs they use, and I have never done office work. Is there any way to get taken seriously, or am I doomed to a lifetime of remodeling?

I've been to New York as a tourist, seen the hole, and walked all over Greenwich Village and Battery Park. I would like to see a map showing the location of the mosque community center thingy, as well as neighborhood pictures, etc. I wanna make up my own mind about this "issue".

  • Is opening a Business even Possible?

    I used to be a self-employed carpenter.

I have an idea for opening a chair-making co-op, or other similar business. I want to do something productive, not service sector stuff. Is opening a small business that makes stuff even possible with today's economy and tax insanity?

  • Why Don't People Try to Answer Tough Questions?

Anyone who has ever read research can tell you that most of it is crap. Cancer researchers replicate mouse studies in rats, education reseachers take surveys of student teachers...

What's wrong with trying new medicines on dying patients or inventing new ways to read? It's hard to ask and answer a good question. The most qualified people in academia dodge hard questions, and the rest of us don't do much better.

Why are we averse to difficult questions and choices?

  • Weather balloons for monitoring Volcanos?

Why not? They don't have engines that could clog up with volcano dust! Why not stick Lidar and GPS on them and monitor dust clouds that way?

    Giant Kites?

They had a problem monitoring the volcano in Iceland, the weather airplanes couldn't fly in the dust cloud. This idea would solve that problem. Who would be interested in it?

  • Are Macho Attitudes and Accidents Related?

The recent coal mine that blew up was a den of machismo. Those guys were high on swagger. They "Ran Coal" and ignored safety warnings.

I used to work in a cabinet shop that was the same way. Fingers got swiped off into the sawblades on a regular basis.

Has anyone done any research on attitudes and danger in the high-risk trades?

  • How do you talk people into buying good paint?

Good paint, from a real paint store like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore costs a pretty penny, but it covers better and wears longer. Cruddy paint from the box store is cheap, it hides the dirt, but not much else. The savings at the box store can be be negated by the labor needed to put on a couple of extra coats of the goop.

How do you get people to buy a quality product instead of cheap crap? Just telling them doesn't seem to work.
