  • What tool should I use to sand a drum shell?

I'm refinishing a drum set, and the sanding is taking me way too long by hand. I started with 100 grit, but that took too little off of the old finish each time, so I switched to 80 grit. This is working better, but it's still taking too much time and it is making my fingers very raw and chewed up. Is an orbital sander going to be safe to use without damaging the round surface of the drums? I need to keep the sanding even throughout so I don't damage the shell. I'm only taking off the old finish and I am not trying to remove much of the wood on the shells themselves, just the old color mostly.

  • I am not happy about this situation; what can i do?

My sister wants to go to the same school as me. She's a senior in HS and I'm a freshman in college. She wants to go to the same school I'm at and it makes me beyond angry. Mostly just because I saw college as my chance to get away from all the idiots I live with. Yet i'm stuck as a commuter and I'm continuously being treated like a high schooler still and I have zero freedom.

Anyway, that's not the problem. My sister follows everything i do, and i can't stand it. Normally, i've been able to tolerate it. But this school thing is over the line. I don't know how to bring it up directly to her. I've said it at my parents (on impulse) and it just led to all kinds of bad things, like how I'm being such an awful son or being too selfish. BUT I HAVE NO INTEREST IN BEING AT THE SAME SCHOOL AS HER. Even worse, she's going to play a club sport, and I gave up my sport to focus on school and save some $$ (another decision my parents refuse to accept OR respect). By her playing, i just know i'll be even more constantly reminded of how awful I am for not wanting to play, and i'll be constantly reminded of how much i "threw away". What makes matters worse is that I'm sure if she isn't going to live at the school then I'll probably be forced to drive her, even if I have my own car at that point.

What can I do to get her to pick a different school? I know it sounds selfish as anything, but I really need my space and independence from my (insane) family.

  • How do I get through to stubborn parents?

So my parents, well mostly my mom, are being extremely stubborn and unfair with me about attending mass on a regular basis. I'm 19 in college, but I still live at home. The problem is, my mom still wants me to attend church. I've just become tired of attending for many reasons, one being that I was constantly dragged there as I child. While I do understand that there are some things that parents should make their kids do, I feel that it's unfair to treat someone who is 19 like he's 9, especially since I'm a legal adult.

I tried giving my mom a huge letter that explained how I feel, and she treated it like a joke. I don't really know what else I can do. It's gotten to the point where if I've refused to go that she's threatened to kick me out of the house! She's crazy and so stubborn and it's driving me insane. I've tried some things. My dad has helped and he's tried to reason with me and help me, but he's in the middle; I don't think that he wants to pick sides. I've talked to my girlfriend and she's been a huge help, even offering to let me stay with her family if things get bad enough. What should I do? My uncle is someone i have considered talking to, but he's my mom's brother and that could be a problem. I've looked into talking to a counselor at school, but idk about that. Any advice? I'm sick and tired of being treated like a 5 year old.

FYI I have no money saved up to get an apartment.

PS I have been told that some of the things she's done point to verbal abuse, too.

  • how would i pronounce this legal term?

I'm doing a project for AP Government regarding Supreme Court cases, and i would like to know how i should say this legal term and how to announce the numbers and whatnot, because i have to record my voice saying it and will lose points if i am wrong.

    42 U.S. Code § 1982

Is this "Fourty Two" or "Four Two", "One Nine Eight Two" or "Nineteen eighty-two" or "one thousand, nine hundred, and eighty-two", and what do i say for that funky S-shaped thing?

    Thank you in advance

  • College help: what should I do?

I'm guessing this question comes up very frequently, but basically, here's what it is in a nutshell: my dream school is very expensive and I don't know if my family can afford it, but there is no other school I want to go to. My mom keeps telling me to choose Drexel. It's not that far, but with aid and the FAFSA and all that stuff it's about 10k/yr. the problem is is that I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO interest in going there. For one, even though people say it has a great math program, the school doesn't specifically offer my major (actuarial science). Nevertheless, my mom seems to keep pushing me it consider that more seriously, and while it may be cheaper right now, I simply do not want to go there and I know that I'll ultimately regret it if I don't end up choosing my dream school, and my dream school is the only one I really love. It's extremely expensive Right now, it's about $23k/year if I commute, but I am waiting on more scholarships that could get it under $15/yr. If I get those other scholarships, it will be almost a no brained to choose St. Joe's (my dream school). Saint Joe's, unlike Drexel, not only offers my major, but I was absolutely infatuated with the campus when I went there, and it's far and away my number one choice. Additionally, though SJU is a lot and I love it, actuaries do make a very good living, so repaying debt wouldn't be as big a problem as it would be for a lesser earning field.

Do you have any advice? I have no interest in anywhere but SJU.

  • Does anyone have songs to help me?

I keep messing up in my relationship. My girlfriend means the absolute world to me and I hate to do things that bother her. But I can't help myself. I get mad over some of the most ridiculous things, I can't keep promises, I always cause us to fight, I persist to cause fights because I think I'm right even though she's very sensitive and I know that, and I always leave her in tears. I just can't figure it out. In person, everything is completely fine and we are always happy, but when we aren't together in person, it's a mess. At least one of us is always stressed out and we just always fight and stuff and it's awful. So my question is, do you guys have any suggestions for music to help me? Songs that are about messing up in relationship and wishing you weren't so terrible all the time? Songs about wanting to make sure you never lose that person?

I'm a huge fan of hard rock and metal, but I'm open to mostly anything as long as it's not pop or rap.

  • Help with Functions? (Precalculus Review)?

Okay so I am working on a Pre-Calc review packet for AP Calculus BC, and I haven't done functions since I took pre-calc two years ago.

    Anyway, the question is:

    If f(x)=4x-x^2, find:

    1. f(4)-f(-4)

    2.sqrt[f(3/2)]

    3.[f(x+h)-f(x-h)]/2h

I haven't done most of this stuff in a long time and I am extremely rusty on it, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Underrated Green Day songs?

I am a huge Green Day fan. I like a lot of the popular songs, but I always thought that many songs did not receive nearly as much attention as they could, especially songs that weren't released as singles.

I always thought these songs were very underrated:

    Going to Pasalacqua

    409 in Your Coffeemaker

    2000 Light Years Away

    Words I Might Have Ate

    Burnout

    FOD

    Armatage Shanks

    Stuart and the Avenue

    86

    Bab Uvula Who?

    Nice Guys Finish Last

    Uptight

    Jinx/Hauskina (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE)

    Prosthetic Head

    Warning

    Church on Sunday

    Castaway

    Misery

    Deadbeat Holiday

    Waiting

    JAR

    Desensitized

    Outsider (Ramones Cover)

    Haha You're Dead

    Letterbomb

    Whatshername

Working Class Hero (John Lennon Cover)

    21st Century breakdown

    See The Light

Anything from UNO DOS & TRE I didn't count because its too soon to tell with some of them.

So, Id like to hear what you guys think? What Green Day songs do you think are underrated? And do you agree with the ones I listed?

  • What are some album title about lack of sleep?

I'm writing a story for public speaking class, and my character is a bit of a non sleeper. I want to have him look over at/listen to some music with ironic titles.

So far, all I have is

    Insomniac - Green Day

No Sleep 'till Brooklyn - Beastie Boys

Also, it would be better of the titles are rock/metal songs/albums

  • Which songs lyrics should I use?

For my public speaking class we were asked to bring in song lyrics, and we are going to read them like a poem. It's a very simple assignment, but I cannot decide what song to use, but I have narrowed it down to three songs: Blackbird by Alter Bridge, Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Second Chance by Shinedown.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you guys could help me reach a decision on the song I use. Feel free to suggest your own, too. The only guidelines are that the song need a minimum of 20 unique lines and it can't have profanity or drug references.

  • Who are some highly UNDERRATED musicians?

Mark Jansen and all of Epica are INSANELY underrated. For Heaven's sake, these guys basically write classical music and then BOOM! they put metal music on top of it! They even wrote a movie soundtrack and have a live album that included a backing choir and orchestra.

BQ: do you think Mark Jansen is underrated?
