  • Declawing Dilema?

Before anyone gets negative here, I am against declawing.

Now that we have got that out of the way, I am left in a bit of a pickle.

So I'm moving in with my boyfriend and his dog soon, who just bought a new house with all new furniture. My cat loves to scratch furniture no matter how much she is sprayed with water, told no, and oddly likes double sided tape.

I have been using soft paws for the last three years with her and she is still able to scratch hard enough that she snags the furniture with the nail caps on. My boyfriend just dropped a bombshell stating that before I move in with him that he wants my cat declawed because he doesn't want his furniture wrecked(and I don't blame him, she has already wrecked mine). Anyone with a declawed cat? Side affects? Behavior issues? Suggestions on the situation?

  • Plugging two vehicle block heaters in?

    I have a bit of a dilemma.

We have two trucks that need to be plugged in when not in use in the winter overnight.

We live in the north where some nights the temperatures can push -50C so they need to be plugged in.

We live in a trailer and our outside outlets are on the same breaker as our heat trace for the water pipes. So if we plug in two vehicle plus the heat tape, it overloads the breaker and 'pops' the breaker.

Suggestions to solve the problem? The cost of getting an electrician to put the heat tape on a separate breaker would be costly so I was wondering if anyone can come up with a cheaper solution? I have been told to get a timer but not too sure how we would work that and don't understand them very well? Help?

  • 2006 Chevy Cobalt Check Engine Light Problem?

Okay so here's whats all going on in my car.

I started my car with my command start like I always do. I have a 2 way command start and it said my car still had 4 minutes to run. I went to open my driver door and the car shut off but the command start said it was still running.

Check engine light came on five minutes later.

I have aftermarket Halo Halogen headlights and just a few days ago I noticed the passenger side headlight , 3 little lights were blinking above my signal light.

My outside temperature gauge quit working 2 days ago ( it just says -24 but its only -10 out)

I put in the stock headlight on the passenger side and it worked just fine but the check engine light was still on so i put the aftermarket headlight back in. the three lights do not blink when the engine is not turned over but as soon as i turn the engine over the lights start to blink again.

Checked battery posts, they are both clean and tight.

Any Ideas? Im Absolutely dumb founded?!?

  • Is this an okay mix of Fish for my tank?

I just bought a 35 gallon tank and im looking at what fish to stock it with.

I ordered the filter, heater and air pump online and just waiting for them to come in the mail so I can start cycling the tank.

I was thinking of putting in:

    1 male convict cichlid

    1 electric yellow cichlid

    1 blue electric cichlid

    1 red tailed shark

and possibly and bristlenose pleco, not %100 sure on that yet.

Do you think this is an okay mix?

  • Adding power locks and remote start 2006 chevy cobalt ls?

I am wanting to put command start in my car and I figure why not put power locks in at the same time. My car is only a two door. Can I just buy two door actuators and hook up the command start and keyless entry that way, is their anything else I need for the conversion?

  • My boyfriend wants to get engaged, I think we should wait?

My boyfriend has been talking lately about getting engaged and married.

First of all, he is a wonderful guy, always listens and is open to any new ideas. We have our few quirks here and there but what couple doesn't! He is the guy that I would like to spend the rest of my life with. I have been with him for almost 11 months now and we have been living together for 6 months. We currently live in an apartment and we are the type of people that live paycheck to paycheck. I have said that it may be better to wait till we have our own home and are financially better off, is this a good idea? I just don't want him to get any ideas that I think he may not be the one or something. He is the one and I would love to spend the rest of my life with him.

Is it too soon to get engaged, should we wait? Or should we get engaged and then wait to get married? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Fish may possibly have swim bladder?

Im not to sure what is wrong with my fish, he is a giraffe cichlid and he has been staying in one spot at the bottom of the tank for 3 days now, he wont eat. He used to get excited and swim around when it was feeding time. He is about 5 inches long in a 60 gallon tank with a gold spot pleco (9.5inches, maximum size) and a 3 inch acei cichlid.

His stomach does look enlarged, I may have been over feeding so I have cut down on the amount of food, tank levels are good and it is clean.

  • Northern Canada Chinook Dog Breeders?

I have a 3 year old Chinook that we adopted from the pound when he was six months old. I would really like to find who the breeder was as he is probably one of the most amazing dogs I have ever owned. If anyone knows of a Chinook Breeder in Northern Alberta or the Northwest Territories that would greatly help!

  • Contacts and solution for dry eyes?

Well at my job they do not provide prescription safety glasses and I am not willing to pay the 300 dollars for them! But contacts have always dried out my eyes and working at a saw-mill with saw-dust doesn't help and wearing safety glasses over my glasses hurts my ears and they fog. Is there a brand of contacts and solution that you could recommend for dry eyes? I am planning on getting laser eye surgery in the future but the recommended age is 21 and im not quite there yet!

  • Off-Highway Vehicle Traffic laws Alberta- Dirt bike?

I bought a Yamaha 85cc 2 stroke and I read all the bylaws in my town about riding them and I got pulled over by a peace officer yesterday because I was riding in a ditch heading home and I dont have any lights on my dirt bike. I didnt get a ticket but she said I needed lights on my dirt bike according to provincial laws. So i looked up Off-Highway Vehicles under the Traffic Act and it states that I need a head lamp and a tail lamp. Does anybody know if the tail light has to be a breaking light and if not do the lights even need to be wired to my bike and run off my battery or can they be removable lights running off another source of power such as batterys?

  • Dog has a runny nose and ate chicken bones?

Well a family member forgot to put my dog in his kennel this morning before they left and my dog got into the garbage and ate 2 whole pieces of chicken including the bones and now his nose seems a bit runny. The vet is out of town till sunday. I have been keeping an eye on him and he seems normal other than the runny nose, he went for a walk and for a run at the dog park and seems just fine. Should I be worried about this and is there anything I can do for him.

P.S. He is a large mix breed dog, all shots are up to date and he is fixed

  • Dog getting into the garbage?

After 3 years of owning my dog (he is a large mixed breed) he has started to get into everything food wise! He used to be so well behaved to the point that you could leave a piece of chicken on the coffee table which is shorter than he is and no matter how long you would leave for he wouldn't touch it! Now every time we leave the house he is into the garbage, eating things out of wrappers off the coffee table! We even got one of those garbage cans that you have to step on to open and it took him two days to figure it out.

My question is why is he doing this and how can I correct this behaviour. Other than his newly found garbage habit he is a well trained, well socialized, well balanced dog.

If all training methods fail he will have to be kennelled when I leave because it is not healthy for him; last week we had a nice trip to the vet after he consumed four brownies out of a closed package.

  • Static Shock Collars For Dogs?

I guess this is more of a poll completely out of curiosity.

I want to see what your guy's opinion's are on this.

    Question:

If you had a dog that barks incessantly at other dogs, people, cars, anything for that matter! Would you ever consider using a static shock collar?

    Opinions?

  • Giraffe and Acei Cichlids?

I have just bought myself two cichlids for my 70 gallon tank, I have my pleco in my tank and the new cichlids, that's it. My pleco is a goldspot pleco and he is at his full length of 9.5 inches. I know you should only keep the same types of cichlids( american, african, lake Malawi) together and the pet store recommended a giraffe and acei cichlid, is this a good match?

Also I only have a rock for my pleco to hide in right now, should I add some fake plants and maybe some more hiding spots?

  • Best guess at what kind of dog this is?

He is three years old and for all these years we have just been guessing his breed. We have ordered a DNA test so we will see exactly what he is! Until then it will be neat to see what everyone thinks he is!

    Three years old

Had triple rear dewclaws as a puppy

    Weighs 60 lbs

He has a higher pitched bark for a big dog

He is very tall, i think he is around 25-27 inches at the shoulders

And here are some pictures of him :):

  • Most Effective Way Of Treaing Ick?

Well I have just restocked my tank and this time I did not quarantine the fish I had bought and look what happens... I have ick badly. In all my years of keeping fish I have never had ick.

I have had my pleco in my tank all along before I even bought all of these fish. I bought:

    4 guppies

    4 platys

    8 neon tetras

1 black neon tetra( he schools with the other neon's)

I discovered it this morning. My fish most defiantly have ick, it's just small white spots on all of my fish except my pleco. I have cleaned the tank, Boiled all of the ornaments, added cycle to my tank, treated them with malachite green and turned the heat up a degree or two.

Is there anything else I can do to help get rid of it?
