  • Taking the soother...?

My son is a year old, and still very attatched to his soother.

I'm worried he's getting too old for one, what age is too old for a soother?

Any advice on how to get him to kick the habit?

  • pet rat won't use chews?

I've had many rats, but none with this, quite annoying. trait...

My newest rat, an 8 week old male, will not under any circumstances use his wodden chews. I've never had this problem with a rat before..

I'm concerned about his teeth becoming overgrown, one of my rat-keeping friends suggested I use dog biscits, but will dog biscits actually wear down his teeth as he gnaws at them?

His cage shows zero signs of chewing on it, help?

  • Considering PROFESSIONAL breeding, NOT BYB, but morally feel it is wrong to pursure my breed of choice....?

Some of you may of saw my question I posted a little while ago, somebody said I should pick a breed

I would love to breed or at least show American Pit Bull Terriers, but morally I feel I should stay FAR away from breeding APBT's because of the thousands that die daily in shelters.

Seeing a well-bred, breed standard, even tempered APBT is getting rarer and rarer...

I've had them in the past, all from my local rescue and shelter. I LOVE the breed to death, and was raised around them.

I know the history (which I will not post here, because when I get started on it, I tend to go on, and on, and on...)

I know they're dog-dog aggressive and that does not mean human-aggressive.

Basically I know the breed as well as I know my hand, as they have always been my favorite.

Is getting involved in showing and perhaps one day, once my dogs have their titles, and I have aquired the skills and money needed to properly and responsibly breed dogs, the right thing to do?

Will breeding PROPER American Pit Bull Terriers (since I would aspire to be a proper, PROFESSIONAL breeder, and not a BYB) cause the deaths of even more of my beloved breed in shelters?

I know that puppy mills and backyard breeders fill shelters horribly and every puppy they sell diminishes the chances of a shelter dog from finding a home, but how would professional breeders possibly help contribute to this problem, especially the bully breeds?

What are the chances of my puppies winding up on death row? Even though I would do the right thing and offer to take back any dog at any time, what is the percentage of people that do not even attempt to contact their breeder when they are forced to give up their pets?

I hope my question makes sense, as I am extremly tired right now, lol.

  • Interested in dog breeding (PROFESSIONAL, NOT BYB)?

Hi there, I've been interested in perhaps either breeding dogs (obviously I need to find a mentor and attend dog shows), or getting involved in the show ring.

I DO NOT want to become a backyard breeder, shelters and rescues are chock full of their dogs and it's selfish and cruel.

I want to better the breed (which breed as of yet, I do not know. I personally LOVE American Pit Bull Terriers, but would NEVER breed them, as I believe there are WAY too many being put down everyday and it just breaks my heart)

My issue is the finances, so, I am interested in the ins and outs, pros and cons of perhaps co-owning a dog.

I plan on finding some local dog shows and perhaps getting involved that way. When I was younger some of my aunts and uncles bred and showed dogs, quite successfully, but alas, they're gone now.

I guess my main question is:

How do I approach a breeder that I am interested in asking to mentor me?

And until my financial situation has improved, hw do I get/stay involved with the show ring, as I do not plan on getting a dog just yet?

As for my age, I am twenty years old.

Please rest assured, I will NEVER be a backyard breeder, and all of my current RESCUE animals have been spayed and neutered.

Any advice on how to get involved?
