The YA rom-com takes place in New Orleans with the characters being 17 or 18.

Ruthie: She's a bit of a brat, she dislikes people who don't dress nicely (often poorer folks), expects people to hold doors for her, she's not really Miss Popular but she is generally disliked because of her stuck up nature, her family isn't rich but they are more upper-middle class

Emmett: He's a nice guy from a large poor family, he works three jobs to help support his single mother, he tends to be more reserved, he's not afraid to stand up to people or speak the truth, not a lot of friends because he spends all of his time either at school or at work

My main characters' names are Ruthie Tomlinson and Emmett Green. It's a YA rom-com that I want to take place in the city, but not NYC because I feel like that's a little too typical.

Ruthie suddenly starts to notice Emmett when he is her waiter at a restaurant when she is on a date (he kindly asks her to leave when she starts making a scene). She later notices him at her local grocery store, putting out produce. She notices him again when he's working at the bookstore across the street from her and her family's apartment.

I'm thinking they're maybe 17 or 18, pretty much on the verge of graduation.

His pairing is a girl named Ruthie Tomlinson.
