  • Is it possible to see all the data in an Excel cell in the 2010 version?

In old versions of Excel you could write a lot of data in one cell without the cell's dimensions being affected. In the 2010 version I cannot see all of the data (only what fits within the cell). To see the remainder I have to click on "Wrap text" but this changes the height of the cell, which I don't want.

Is it possible to have things the old way in the 2010 version?

  • "no wireless networks found" ?

Hello, I am a complete novice and therefore have no idea how to fix this (but I'm hoping it's something absurdly simple which I am just too ignorant to fix!)

I've been using an old Dell Latitude C600 laptop with XP and a Belkin 802.11g Wirless card. I've been connected to the internet fine for over a year when suddenly, last week, I started getting the message for "View available networks" "No Wireless networks were found in range - Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on."

A friend came round with a laptop just to confirm that there still ARE several networks within range, and she connected no problem. But I have been unable to work out what has gone wrong with mine. Weirdly, in tinkering about, at one point I could briefly see several networks (but not the one I need to connect to), but now I am back to zero again.

The Device Manager says the Belkin card is working fine but if I click on the Belkin card it just says "Scanning" and has no data or statistics.

I have tried FN F2 which some forums suggest is a wireless switch for my laptop but this does nothing. I have also made sure the Windows Zero thing is started (which other forums suggest).

    The network diagnostic says

    Wireless - Service disabled

    Wireless - User SSID

action User input required:Specify network name or SSID

    Wireless - Radio off

action Manual repair: Turn radio switch on

    Wireless - Out of range

action Manual repair: Ensure wireless network is in range

(and in red) Wireless - Hardware issue

info Redirecting user to support call

    and later,

    Winsock status

info IrDA protocol is not found in Winsock catalog

    and later

    Network adapter status

info Network connection status: Media disconnected

I have no idea what any of this means! But if someone could help me I would be amazingly grateful.

    Many thanks in advance

  • Why is the BBC website suddenly so slow?

For the past few days, perhaps even weeks, I have had great difficulty getting onto any BBC website pages. It's not my PC as all other sites work fine and it's the same story on PCs at work. I haven't been able to access ANY of the radio pages for over a week. They simple freeze and time out.

And the most infuriating thing is that I can't even notify them of the problem - trying to get to the correct page to complain and...freeze - timed out.

Pretty rubbish for such a big organisation!

  • All these protests about Gaza? He wasn't that bad surely.?

I just don't understand, surely all these people protesting about Gaza should realise that all that stuff with the Flaming Zambukas, and getting drunk before England matches was a long time ago. I mean, Gascoigne has got some pretty serious drink and mental issues nowadays and people should just be a bit more forgiving.

  • Can't set up wireless internet?

Help! I have been trying all day to set up wireless internet but have been unable to do it.

I have two laptops - one with Windows XP and one with Vista. After following the walkthrough on both laptops everything SEEMS to go ok and it even states that we are now connected (signal excellent) but when I go to internet explorer there is no connection to the internet.

The modem is fine, a cable directly into the laptop works fine.

The router (a Sitemap 54G) also seems to be working fine. I'm fairly sure it's just me (techno-idiot) doing something glaringly wrong!

Techies - please take pity on me and try explaining to me what I should do in VERY basic terminology!

    Many thanks in advance

  • how much rent should I pay a friend who lets me house-sit?

I have just spent a month house-sitting for a friend in London. The house is for sale and I have been there to let in the estate agents (they've let themselves in actually, I've had to do nothing). My friend asked that I pay something towards bills. What do you think would be a proper amount?

  • Arabic number plates in London?

On three or four occasions now I have seen Ferraris and Lamborgini's driving around the Chelsea and Knightsbridge area with Arabic number plates. Is this legal? What would happen if there was an accident and I (or a police officer) needed to take down the number plate?

  • Who is Mike Ingham allowed to use Yahoo Answers?

1187 results so far and counting. Nearly every one a load of racist, National Front invective. Questions include

" Is now the time for a door to door identity check?",

" Will this case cause a big rise in people wanting to work as British hairdressers wearing a headscarf?",

"Is therejustice for the government to say you must employ someone with a headscarf?",

" Were you aware that most immigrants to the UK are from 3rd world countries? "

"Which Islamic country could I emigrate to which will give me a lump sum to return to Britain?"

"Is it time for a tough response when British jail staff fear Muslim inmates?"

"Should the government openly admit that they have imported foreign knife , gun and bomb crime onto the UK?"

And on and on, literally, ad nauseum.

No doubt this question raises issues of free speech but, as I´m sure Mike Ingham himself would propose, it´s usually the guilty who make the most noise about "rights".

  • Is everyone who posts a question about their hair an absolute moron ?

Perhaps there should also be a section in which equally dull people could ask desparately intense questions about socks, or lard, or bic biro tops. Perhaps there already is. Does nobody else see these questions and want to drink molten lead?

  • Can lightning damage a laptop?

A friend of mine was using an Apple workbook which she had borrowed from a friend. She was using it on battery power (it wasn´t connected to the mains) and the internet access was from a wireless Vodaphone connection (also not connected to the mains). While she was working there was an incredible storm and shortly afterwards the laptop "died" and cannot be turned back on. She is blaming the storm. My question is, is there ANY possibility that she is correct?

  • How do I click and save MP3s on a Mac?

sorry, immensely dumb question but I´ve only ever used a PC and I´ve just been given a Mac powerbook for a few days. On a PC I right-click on files (MP3) for example and do "save destination etc". How do I do that on a Mac?

Their website has only an infuriating menu of options which, at no point, enable you to contact them directly.

  • What´s the best (cheapest!) way to send stuff (books, clothes) from Spain to Uk?

Probably about three suitcases of stuff, quite heavy as there are lots of books.

Time not an issue just looking for the cheapest way to do this.
