The scenario: Friends house is going into foreclosure. They can't make the 6000 payment to reinstate the loan (includes hefty lawyers fees). And they are possibly doing a short sale to just eliminate the debt before it gets to a finalized foreclosure, and they lose big! The house is appraised at 85,000 and loan balance is 60,000. And there are minor inprovements to make it worth more.

Question: I have heard that if you purchase a property in NYS, live in it, but try to sell before 2 years of living there, it is required to pay taxes on the profits of the property. Is this true and is there any reference websites to find out more about this? NYS is a real stickler with taxes... Any info is much appreciated.

I was recently offered a "Clerk of the Works" position with a medium sized architectural firm. Now although I have seen the scope of responsibilities, it is damn near impossible to find this term even being used in the united states...and finding salary information has been very difficult. I am the eyes and ears of the architect and client on site to assure (in a very crude description) quality control and quality assurance. May end up havig to do some hiring and firing of contractors. attend weekly meetings. LOTS of paperwork. And many of the jobs are federal(prevailing rate). Jobs range from 20k to 20 million. It is told to all be residential, no commercial projects at this time. Any links, info, answers are welcome. Thank you. (I am in the good ol' USA....most of what I found was UK and Ireland rates and info...which is not what I am looking for.)

Curious as to the amount of cash assistance WNY would possibly give to a single father of 2 young children(5 and 2) and currently serving in the USAR and a full-time college student(FINAL SEMESTER) and responsible for the mortgage and car payment. I am currently out of work (herniated disc in my neck thanks to Army training) NO current benefits are being recv'd and have a pretty busy life with my kids. Not one to ask for help, but it got to this point now. Just looking for any info and/or a rounded figure of cash assistance. I cannot check my email and this is not a good thing since i use it for work. But I haven't had access to my email in over a day now. I tried to go to mapquest (hosted by google) and can't go there. I tried google.com...no go...If any ideas on how i can forward my mail to outlook or even a yahoo address ...THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I just tried popping to my yahoo account and it asks to verify from gmail...but i can't go to gmail.com?? HELP!

My business plan is to start the business the first of the year(2008), but am unsure if starting the DBA sends the information to the IRS stating that a business was started under my name. And they make come after me to find any tax information for the business while i'm not even using it yet. I want to establish the DBA now so I'm prepared for the first of the year. I have to still get the insurance needed. But is it safe to get the DBA now and Start doing taxes and keeping track of business spending the first of the year? Or should I wait till the first of the year for the DBA too?

The Ps2 Is the older larger model so its not covered by any warranty. I tried to clean the lens and the inside, but same issue. I want to save 130 bucks buying a new one if someone has an answer or suggestion other then gasoline and a match. I know my cables work fine, i tested with other cables and another ps2. If no help is found its going on ebay cheap for parts!
