  • Mother in law from hell, trying to stop us from getting married..?

My fiance is ready to start processing for the Army and we are getting married this weekend. It's going to just be us and two witnesses + officiant, nothing big for now. His mother is insane. Overbearing, controlling, sees me as a threat and is a total psycho. We moved to another freaking state for this woman and we know no one here. My fiance stopped talking to her for nearly a year, I had never met her and talked him into calling her and forgiving her. Next thing we know she traveled across several states and showed up at his house, talked him into packing all our things and moving. She is refusing to be one of our witnesses now, and telling my fiance he needs to think about what he's doing, trying to talk him out of it, etc. when she has supported him for an entire year of being engaged to me. I cannot believe she would be so selfish as to try to make OUR marriage about HER. I am so upset. We are adults and quite capable of making our own decisions. We are not rushing into anything. HOW am I supposed to deal with this?! We are trying to find a couple people my fiance works with to be witnesses for us. It's so terrible that she can't just support him. Any advice? I'm desperate for sanity and a drama-free weekend around here :(

  • Want to file for contempt of court, but what other options?

My ex husband has not paid child support in six months, and since we got divorced he has never paid on time and owes me more than what he hasn't paid in the past six months. I live in Iowa and I want to file an application for rule to show cause and would expect him to be found in contempt of court. And let me just state, for the record, that I am a single mother that has a full time social services job and I go to college part time. So I'm not some loser here, I'm a respectable young woman.

BUT, my other problem is, he is a drug addict that has beaten his girlfriend, I only hear from him every couple months, and he only sees our almost five-year-old daughter every four or five months and plays with her for about two hours. I have sole legal custody and he is allowed supervised visitation every other Saturday from noon to five p.m. in my home. He does not take advantage of this, like I have said.

Do I have any other options here? Do I have to keep putting up with his refusal to be a father? He's a horrible person and I'm glad when he stays away, but just popping in every couple months is more damaging to my daughter than anything.

Is there anything I can do?

His birthday is at the end of the month, we've been dating for a few months and I'm really into him. But he has a decent amount of money and pretty much gets himself things he wants.

I've never been good at buying gifts for men anyway. What kind of things do guys like to get???

  • What books would you recommend for a prospective psychology major?

I'm wanting to major in psychology and go on to work in counseling. I'm unable to start college for another year or so. Do you have any recommendations for literature I could read to prepare myself/study/learn in the meantime?

  • your weight experience with anti depressants?

I've been medicated off and on for about 8 years... just curious what your experiences have been with different SSRI's, and what anyone's experiences have been with Effexor, or venlafaxine. Thanks!

  • I have a question regarding what kind of spray paint or paint to use...?

I'm converting an old 70's dresser into an indoor animal hutch for our ferrets. Took out the drawer supports and just made a big opening for their living space.

I am sanding down any rough spots on the inside, and I would like to have the inside coated with something that will allow for easy cleaning and will not stain easily. (They use a litter box but you never know...).

Would spray enamel be good for this? Any suggestions?

Do I have to use primer?

Can you do multiple coats of enamel or would that be necessary?

Any suggestions or info you can give will be appreciated, I'm trying to come up with a good plan for finishing the area they will live in.

  • Can I build a bookcase out of plywood? Plans?

Don't have a whole lot of money to spend on supplies, but I'd like to build a bookcase for my daughter's room for keeping toys and books organized. I was wondering if I could use plywood? And could you direct me in the way of some plans or ideas online? Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • Our younger ferret scatters food all over, solutions?

We've had a girl that's 10 months old for a little while now, and a couple days ago we got her a friend and she's about 4 months old. Well the younger one is always knocking food out of the heavy crock dish! Silly girl. But it's wasteful and I'm sick of finding ferret nibbles all over the floor and cage. Any ideas?

  • My ex-husband has not paid this month and is on unsupervised probation?

He paid his first month, this is the second month and no payment or guarantee that he will pay. He's a major flake and we don't expect that he's going to pay. Does it make any difference that he's on probation? How long to wait before we can file for contempt of court against him? Would ask the lawyer, but that costs money every time so I'd rather not right now!

  • Does your husband talk to you about his ermm... habits...?

My husband does not masturbate. If he did, it'd be something he'd tell me because that's the way we are...

But why doesn't he? I think he'd be less stressed out if he did... we have sex at least four times a week but still... even I still do it! Is he weird?

  • Difference in cat breeds?

Is there a difference between the breeds of cats there are, as far as temperament and stuff go?

I would like to get a cat, but do not like the one's I've come across that are insanely hyper. I want a mellow cat!

*Apologies if this is a stupid question. I'm a grown woman, but have never owned a cat before!

  • What can you tell me about plants, first timer here, sand substrate?

Planted tanks is the only thing I have not yet done as far as fishkeeping goes. Got any good links for me on getting started? I'm not sure how to work that out if we have a sand substrate. Hardy plants that grow OK without obsessive care?

    Thanks all.

  • What do you love about your spouse?

So many negative questions on here! I understand that there's a lot of people in bad situations that want advice. But what about the good?

My favorite thing is his dorkiness and sense of humor. I love it, he can always make me laugh. Then on the other hand I see him as a strong, take-charge man. I know he'll get us through anything, and he makes me feel safe.

(for the record we have no marital problems lol)

    What about you?

  • Questions about a broke wedding day?

We don't have a lot of money, nor do we want to wait for the day we can afford a wedding, so we were just going to get married at the court house.

Any ideas that will be cheap as far as having a reception/party for family and friends?

  • What is your experience with Salvini Cichlids?

My fiance wanted to get 1-2 to put in with our Oscar, Jack Dempsey, and Green terror. But I have read they can be territorial. I've also read that they're kind of passive. ???

The fish we have now get along pretty good so I don't want to potentially ruin a good thing.

What is YOUR EXPERIENCE of these cichlids?

Please don't give me links and crap, I only want answers from those that have kept these fish.

  • What are your rules for your 2-3-4 year old?

I have a 3 year old daughter who has recently decided to NEVER listen to me or her Papa and has stopped doing what we ask. SO we picked out a time-out chair and place, and want to write up the very basic rules of our house. Even though she can't read, It will help us all. Especially me and her Papa, so we're totally clear on what will get a time-out. Besides, sometimes I think he can get a little nit-picky with the things she does, when they really shouldn't be an issue or something to get in trouble over. Sure, maybe annoying, but it's not wrong. You know what I mean?

I've had such a stressful day, death in the family & daughter has acted naughty all day. I just need some ideas. Just the very basic things that should be expected. No hitting, etc. Thanks!

  • What could it mean, application for order nunc pro tunc after hearing for default judgement in divorce ca?

OK, my attorney was going before a judge Monday (before court Friday) to try to get him to sign our default divorce agreement. Ex has not responded to anything he has been served, so my attorney thought it was a no-brainer to save everyone the headache of court. Have not yet heard from my attorney, but when looking online at court records it says this:

    Other Application:

comments: For Order Nunc Pro Tunc

    Other Order:

    comments: Nunc Pro Tunc Re

Soooo, the hearing was monday, and this is what has been entered since then... Good? Eh??? Sorry for my idiocy, wish my attorney would hurry up and call already. He's a busy man.
