do American trac phones work in europe?
I'm leaving for Sweden and Germany in a month to visit family. I was wondering if any burner or trac phones from the United States will work within Europe?
2 AnswersOther - Europe7 years agoHow would a faster planetary precession affect life?
The 23.5º tilt of the earth's axis is basically what causes seasons because of the differential exposure of the north and south hemispheres as it orbits the sun. The Earth's axis also wobbles over thousands of years; in this era, the axis points at the North Star (Polaris). In thousands of years, the axis will point at another star close to Polaris. This "wobbling" of the axis is called Precession.

Consider the following hypothetical:
Assume there is a planet that harbors as much or more life than earth, is approximately the same size as the earth and shares a similar amount of land-to-water mass ratio. Also assume that this planet has a very fast precession (meaning that the rotational axis of the planet wobbles like a top). Where earth's precession takes thousands of years, the precession on this hypothetical planet takes less than a year to complete a full precessional circle.
Let's also assume that the angle of the planet's axis is about a 15º to 20º tilt. With a faster precession would seasons on the planet last several years similar to how they do in the "Game of Thrones" universe? Would this extremely fast precession of the planet cause any unusual effects regarding the oceans and tides?
3 AnswersAstronomy & Space8 years agoHow can I download music from youtube that is longer than 20 minutes?
I have a MacbookPro running OS X 10.8 and using Safari 6.0.2
My previous computer died and I lost all my music. I've been mostly downloading single songs from youtube using www.youtube-mp3.org but recently I've been wanting to download mixes and albums that are around an hour in length. That specific website doesn't support videos of that length.
How can I download music from youtube that is longer than 20 minutes?

I don't know what happened. I completed the Claw quest (at the near beginning of the game), and when I went to give that dude the claw, suddenly everyone, everywhere—no matter where I Fast Travel to—tries, and successfully kills me.
*fake sobs* I just want to finish the quest and sell some items!

Behind the lettering, many state license plate designs have a double-helix pattern (or a DNA pattern, if you will). What is the significance of this?
Missouri license plates are what sticks out in my mind the most.

In the end of the episode "More Smarter," Mordecai and Rigby end up becoming so smart that they end up speaking Latin and everyone seem more animalistic.
Anyway, what is the word-for-word translation of what they said in Latin?
4 AnswersLanguages10 years agoHow to force-shutdown a Mac w/ the keyboard?
I'm the tech guy at the foreign exchange dept. at a university. My job is to go to the classrooms fix all hardware inside of the podiums that the Professors use to project material for their students.
These podiums are locked, of course; generally I receive the key, from my superior, to use until the work day ends. That superior is gone today. Long story made short: She has the only copy of that key.
I need to know how to reboot this computer without actually having to press the power button. All I have is the keyboard and mouse.
SYMPTOMS:
It's a Mac Mini, it's non responsive with a blank white screen and no mouse is visible.
2 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoWhat is the consistency of brain matter/cerebrospinal fluid?
I'm writing a book. One of the characters has had a runny nose for a while and it's later discovered to be brain matter and cerebrospinal fluid leaking out of her nasal cavity and is being caused by a brain tumor. This actually has happened in real life to a family friend who has since passed away.
I'm curious as to the consistency/texture of brain matter and the viscosity of CS fluid so that I can accurately describe what happens (another reason is to know whether if there is something about either matter/or CS fluid that would be noticeable compared to the consistency/viscosity of snot when this character blows her nose.
Thanks
4 AnswersCancer1 decade agoWhat is the difference between ectomorphy and endomorphy?
I'm reading 'Doors of Perception' and I came across the following excerpt. I'm uncertain as to the meaning of the bit that lists 'ectomorphy and cerebrotonia'; 'endomorphy and viscerotonia'; and 'mesomorphy and somatotonia?'
EXCERPT:
"To see ourselves as others see us is a most salutary gift. Hardly less important is the capacity to see others as they see themselves. But what if these others belong to a different species and inhabit a radically alien universe? For example, how can the sane get to know what it actually feels like to be mad? Or, short of being born again as a visionary, a medium, or a musical genius, how can we ever visit the worlds which, to Blake, Swedenborg, to Johann Sebastian Bach, were home? And how can a man at the extreme limits of ectomorphy and cerebrotonia ever put himself in the place of one at the limits of endomorphy and viscerotonia, or, except within certain circumscribed areas, share the feelings of one who stands at the limits of mesomorphy and somatotonia? To the unmitigated behaviourist such questions, I suppose, are meaningless. But for those who theoretically believe what in practice they know to be true—namely, that there is an inside to experience as well as an outside—the problems posed are real problems, all the more grave for being, some completely insoluble, some soluble only in exceptional circumstances and by methods not available to everyone. Thus, it seems virtually certain that I shall never know what it feels like to be Sir John Falstaff or Joe Louis. On the other hand, it had always seemed to be possible that, through hypnosis, for example, autohypnosis, by means of systematic meditation, or else by taking the appropriate drug, I might so change my ordinary mode of consciousness as to be able to know, from the inside, what the Visionary, the Medium, even the Mystic were talking about."
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoHow can I find local raves?
I love Electronic Dance Music (EDM), I love clubs and parties, and I'm not opposed to indulging in mind-altering substances.
My free evenings and weekend nights have been increasingly dull. A rag-tag trio of friends, we are, watching old episodes of Futurama, House, and Dexter. We seek excitement! We demand adventure!
We've been trying to find local raves; small, large, 4-day long, whatever, we don't care. Are there any ways to find out these gatherings or are there any websites that have this information. The usual concert ticket sites HARDLY seem to work.
Your advice, help, or other suggestions are appreciated! B)

I've always been fascinated with space. I heard from another peer of mine(in astronomy), that if you see a meteor strike the earth and then obtain it, that you can turn it in for a reward to NASA or another similar government agency. Is this true, or is it just hear-say?

If so, what possible traits or physical appearances would a 4th Dimensional being have?

8 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoWhat elements cause meteorites to flash different colors?
I've done a lot of star-gazing, and I'm an amateur astronomer. Sadly my knowledge is limited on chemistry—basic chemistry, at that—and I'm curious. Is there a list, anywhere, of elements that are commonly composed in meteorites organized by the color of flame they produce upon entry into the Earth's atmosphere?

2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoWhat's the limit to how small a gaseous planet can be?
What's the smallest in size that a gaseous planet can exist? I wouldn't expect gas to have much of a gravitational effect on itself when there is less material than is needed for normal-sized gas planet.
Would a small but dense core have any effect on this or the construction of the planet? What effect would this core have on the planets magnetic field?
This is all hypothetical. You can factor any mixture of materials for the composition of this fictional planet.
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWould a spray fixative reduce chances of smearing?
I'm almost finished with inking a drawing. In the colouring stage I plan on using Prismacolor Markers.
In the past, I've used Prismacolors with these particular ink pens and the markers tend to smear the ink. I was wondering if using a spray fixative before colouring would help reduce the smearing of the ink?

When I was younger, most freight trains had a traditional, red caboose train car at the tail end of the train. The last one I saw was over 15 years ago. Looking back, I've always wondered WHY there was a caboose at the end of every train. So my question is, what is the purpose(s) of a caboose?
