  • Joint Filing without full information (grrr)?

A couple where person A's stuff is accounted for and could file if filing separately but they always file jointly. Person B worked 3 extremely low income jobs during the year all of which combined should not total $600 but since they each total less than the minimum for filing, no I-9 was sent. When person B contacted the individual places person B was told such and was not given a total figure so that all these could be added together to come up with a single income to report.

If filing separately, not a problem. But filing jointly, must total the household income but cannot do that without this information. And no, person B has not managed to keep any paystubs to make it easy.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

Does Person B's income need to be added to the household income while filing jointly? Or since it was such a low total amount (classed as independent contractor with no taxes withheld) would that not need to be added to the household total?

  • More words of wisdom?

It was fun last time so let's try it again. Who wants to give some words of advice regarding fish keeping. Just say what you feel needs to be said. This time I won't pick a best answer but let it go to a vote in the community.

    Have fun ;-)

  • Who reads the classifieds for humor value?

We regularly read the classifieds for humorous content and I was wondering if there are many other people who do the same. Some examples of things we have found for sale:

    - Trampoline, frame only - no net (um...a little hard to use that way isn't it?)

    - Piano, Pool Table, Foos Ball Table (which of these things is NOT like the other - it just seems wrong for these to be in the same ad)

    - Bed Girls (I hope it was girl's bed or else it's illegal)

If this is something you do regularly or even occasionally, please respond. Examples would be great

  • Meniscus Surgery Friday?

I should have done this earlier but I’m starting to get a little paranoid. I’m having knee surgery Friday – arthroscopic to repair a meniscus tear. The doctor said I’d be able to walk the same day and he’d be giving me exercises to do. I am not foolish enough to think I’ll be 100% same day or even in a few days. I expect to HURT. What I am wondering is what to really expect. How well will I be able to walk that day? How long until I can do things properly again? I almost feel like I’m not getting a strait answer because I don’t think he feels I should be very active due to other conditions. But I want to be able to walk and ride a bike again without screaming.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Why is there still a major misconception about what is acceptable hamster bedding?

We adopted our first hamster from the humane society. She came with an information sheet and a recomendation of 2 local exotic vets with a free check up if done within 48 hours. It turns out it only covered the office visit, not the vet herself, but we still took her in for 2 reasons:

1- It was best for her to be checked out to make sure nothing was wrong

2- We didn't know anything except what we had read in preparation so we wanted the advice.

We took the whole cage in for best effect and less stress on our hamster. We were using paper based bedding at the time and she told us this was fine but gave the advice that aspen shavings was the best bedding for the hamster.

Why do I keep seeing recomendations here to avoid aspen? Pine and cedar definately stay away from. If you check your websites, they also recommend aspen. Every source I can find says stay away from everything except aspen. Except for here.

    Why?

  • Who wants to identify a mystery fish?

I have had these for awhile and still cannot find a reference to what they really are. They came from a batch of feeder guppies and I kept them originally thinking they were older, healthier, larger, female guppies with huge gravid spots. Well, as they grew, turns out they are NOT guppies but still resemble guppies. What I took for a gravid spot in the smaller fish is actually on the body rather than at the back of the fish and is half clear and half black. These fish are about twice the size of a large female guppy and the largest is close to the size of a medium to large molly. There appears to be spots or irridence that the light catches.

Even more interesting. Even though they are obvious female live bearers, male live bearers of all verieties leave them alone. Guppies, mollies, platties, swords, even a mosquito fish ignored them.

Here's an attempt at a pic:

  • Is there anything you can do to help people who choose wrong answers?

I mean answer selections include something that's interesting but wrong as well as something that's right and they choose the answer that's wrong and think it's informative? Is there any way to let them know or to pull a blatenly WRONG answer off from a best answer so people other do not get misled from it?

I guess I'm asking if there is any way to stop the spread of misinformation when it is found or if we're just stuck with it regardless of how annoying it is.

  • Response to egg hatchery fallacy...?

I read someone going on about egg hatcheries killing off male chicks in the most inhumane ways possible including grinding them live for pet food. I find this difficult to believe in the USA since there are laws against it. Upon searching, most sites are biased and a lot of the information and pictures are from Germany. I did locate Agriculture Regulation Admin Order No. 12, part 17, sct. 6 states "17.6 Culled and excess chicks shall be disposed of in the most humane way possible. Thorough inspection shall be done to ensure that all birds are dead". Section 22 gives humane slaughter instructions/requirements.

Granted, it might not be ideal, but it is far from the horror portrayed.

  • I have a torn meniscus, how can I reduce the pain and regain control of my life?

I hurt my knee a couple of months ago and have been having major problems since. They finally discovered through MRI that it's a large meniscus tear and was going to surgically repair it. Unfortunately, surgery has been put off for a month.

I still have serious issues with pain and difficulty walking. Does anyone have any suggestions to help this heal on it's own? If I have to wait a month anyway, is there any chance of not needing the surgery at all by that time?
