  • Does anyone have a dog with FHO?

I have a six month old five pound puppy with bilateral hip dysplasia and bilateral medial luxating patella. Because of he is not a candidate for total hip replacement. So femoral head ostectomy is his only choice because of the severity of his arthritic changes he cannot have a TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy). I'm sure people will be shocked when they read this but I assure you LOTS of puppies (even small breeds) can have hip dysplasia and MPLs from poor breeding. My japanese chin was a rescue from a puppy mill (you may have seen it on TV when it got shut down). Mostly I want to know if anyone has any experience with a personal pet who has had this procedure. I want to know how well they recovered, is there gait normal, did you have physical therapy done? I'm scared to have the procedure, but I know its the right thing, I just want to see if anyone else has any experience with it. I work in a specialty animal hospital but talking to surgeons is never the same as talking to people who's personal pet was involved.

  • Do you think dogs can feel guilt?

Do you think your dog knows he has done something bad? Have you ever come home and the dog cowered before you even discovered what was destroyed? Do you know you dog did something wrong if you come home and they are hiding? Don't be fooled. Try destroying the garbage or bringing some poo inside and leaving it on the floor. Leave for a few hours and come back. Your dog will probably cower even though they didn't do it. All they understand is that there is a mess and where their is a mess there is angry humans.

Also I've had clients tell me that they were sure the dog was doing it because he acted "guilty" but upon the installation of camera surveillance they found that it was actually the CAT tearing up the garbage. The dog was acting submissive because he knew there was a mess and when there is a mess their is an angry human, so I should act submissive to avoid his/her wrath.

Remember that you can only scold a dog for tearing up the garbage or eliminating in the house if you catch them in the act. The dog doesn't always understand why its being scolded when you wait to scold them Also NEVER rub your pets nose in feces...or when you die you'll spend eternity having a giant dog forever rubbing your nose in poo.

Did this help you understand your dog better?

  • What kind of Scsi hard drive am I looking for?

My computer says I already have a st3320620as scsi hard drive 320GB. However my friend says that the hard drive is running errors and may die soon so I should think about replacing and backing up my information...I'm not the most computer literate person and I inherited the computer from someone I'm no longer on speaking terms with.

Every time I try to search "st3320620as scsi hard drive 320GB" It only comes up with a SATA hard drive...that isn't the same thing is it??? Please help, I can't afford to spend a lot of money on a hard drive but I want something that will work and I won't have to convert files or compromise my computers operation. I play WOW, download anime, and general surfing on the web. Tell me where I can find a comparable hard drive and for the best price. Thanks :-)

  • Help me name my Rescue Puppy?

I just rescued a 16week old puppy from euthanazia. He has a luxated patella, which is a hereditary condition that is common in small breeds because of BAD breeds who could care less about the breed and even less for the people whose hearts are broken every day by poorly bred puppies. He is a Japanese Chin and although his breeder should be shot and his parents spayed/neutered, that doesn't mean he should be killed. So I took him in but he needs a name. He is tiny and adorable. I'm aware the breed originates in China, but I think a Japanese name would be awesome. Any suggestions will be considered. Thanks

  • What should I name my new Japanese Chin Puppy?

I just rescued a 16week old male japanese chin puppy. He is only 3lbs and I think full grown he is going to be quite small. He is black and white, about 50/50. If you don't know the breed, feel free to do a quick search before you answer me. Also I want the name to be Japanese please.

  • Why would a cat suddenly develop a humping habit?

I've had my cat and dog for three years. In the past two months my neutered cat is making unwelcome sexual advances on my male neutered dog. The vet can't find anything wrong with him. He is 5 year old neutered male and very healthy. Suddenly he has become obsessed with my 15lb dog, almost nerotic about humping him. Sadly, it has gotten to the point that my dog can't sleep unless he goes in him kennel because everytime he lies down the cat takes it as an open invitation. My poor dog is pooping on the cat's bed now (must be payback) but the cat isn't getting the less than suttle hint that the dog is not interested. Help. Scolding/spraying/spanking the cat only seems to upset my dog more because he thinks he is in trouble too. My dog is becoming nuts and my cat is a pervert. If you have helpful hints to stop the behavior that won't freak out my emotionally sensitive k9 that would help.
