  • Smokers: just curious what caused you to start smoking?

With all of the scientific evidence out there that links smoking to several cancers, as well as the bad breath and yellow teeth, why did you decide to even start? And if you started before all of these studies came out, how was smoking perceived at the time you started? Thanks!

  • Why do some Americans think that non-American men are effeminate?

Specifically Latino, European, and East Asian men (this is where I have seen it directed the most).

Is it just because of the way that they dress? Because I like my man to look good, just as I will try to at least look put-together. And I don't see how this makes them effeminate. Is it their education? Their willingness to talk about more emotional issues (generally speaking)? Thanks!

  • The difference between Christian mythology and other world mythologies?

I asked a similar question, but the answers didn't get at the issue. So, here goes:

If Biblical stories are considered to be Christian mythology, then what is the difference between these stories and other world mythologies? What is the difference between Noah's Flood and the flood myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha? What is the difference between the exploits of Jesus and those of Hercules? Why is it perfectly acceptable, even good, to believe one of these sets of myths, but you're not taken seriously if you believe the other?

A definition of Christian mythology (as in I'm not suggesting that Biblical stories are untrue)

I just want a satisfactory answer on this - I'm not trying to attack anyone's beliefs. Thank you!

  • If the Bible is Christian mythology, ...?

... why is it acceptable to take a Bible Studies class to fulfill my religion requirement in college, but I cannot take a Greek Mythology class to fulfill that same requirement? Mythology=mythology, so if one type of mythology is allowed, why aren't any others?
