  • What to do with my 8th grade son who just doesn't think school is important?

My son has the ability to do his homework and get passing grades. When he does homework he doesn't read the instructions clearly, then does it incorrectly. If he doesn't like a teacher, he doesn't put the effort into it. This has been an ongoing problem since he started school, at times not as bad as other times. He's not a bad kid, he doesn't misbehave in class, it's just this homework issue, which thus results in bombing tests, thus results in even more homework. I feel terrible as a mother saying this but I feel defeated and just am uncertain of what will actually get this kid on track and getting through the importance of good grades. I'm not asking for A's, I'd be thrilled with a C. I usually end up in tears at the conferences, I don't even want to attend them next week. On the other hand I have another child in 6th grade that is an honor roll student. I haven't done anything different as far as parenting the two. Help, I don't want to give up. My husband says he is just like him when he was that age and it will be ok, but I need a solution to this issue. And academically, I can't believe that he is growing the way that he should, I just don't see it. I need some advice.

  • Do you think 40 is too old to go into cosmetology?

When I was younger I wanted to do this but my father said it was a dead end job, so I ventured into accounting/lending instead. I've done this or this line of work for 20 years and am bored out of my mind with it. I'm married and work full time and have 2 kids. Do you think I'm too old to go to school to do this? Be brutally honest, if necessary.

  • Purchased gift for daughter (8yrs) who keeps changing mind?

Ok, so my 8 year old, wanted the Barbie Townhouse, now sold out everywhere, I got it, then she told me she didn't want it. Now she says she does, back and forth--would you sell it or go ahead and give it to her and if she changes her mind, return it before she takes it out of the box. Keep in mind, this is the one and only thing she asked for from Santa--but knows it's sold out everywhere?

  • How to find what type of job I should be doing?

How do I figure out what type of job I should be in? I'm 39 years old and the last two jobs I've had, I've gotten burned out and am bored out of my mind. I am a bookkeeper and what I've realized is that I don't like being that close to the companies finances, it's too stressful. I'm not complaining because I feel fortunate to have a job and one that pays well. However, I am not a person that is motivated by the dollar. I want a job that there is personal reward in and that I enjoy going to everyday. I can't be the only person who feels this in their career. How do I find out what I should be doing and what will be fulfilling for me?

  • Help--overwhelmed planning disney world trip?

Ok, so this will be the first family vacation and I don't want it to end up like the Grizwolds. 2 kids will be 7/9. My questions:

    1. Has anyone stayed at the Nickolodeon Hotel--any feedback, good bad ugly?

    2. The Nick hotel looked like a day of fun in itself--thinking save some money and skip a park that day.

    3. What parks with kids these ages should we skip--my husband and I would also like to have fun and he wants to go to Universal.

    4. We are looking at going The first week in August or the week after Labor Day, someone mentioned the local schools have field trips there, any time better than another as far as these two time frames?

    5. Any help on where to get cheap tickets would be great, pro's/con's--the tickets for the hopper and universal are going to be more than airfare and hotel--is that crazy or what.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Kennel shot part 2 from earlier question?

Kennel shot, side effects of nasal injection?

Part 2 to a previous question. Does anyone know the side effects of the bordello being administered by liquid in the dogs nasal passage. Another vet took an xray-no problems. The vet put him on new meds before the next thing of pathology or knocking the dog out, looking at his sinuses. My dog is still sick and I think this is a direct result of the nasal injection. Both vets are stumped at this point. I have to check in on Monday for a progress report. I want to know why this has happened, I really believe it is from the bordello and how it was administered. The vets seem to be evading this question--WHY???

  • Kennel shot gone wrong, need opinions?

I took my Chihauhau Poncho to the vet 2 weeks ago to get a kennel shot, we had a funeral and found out a day before that he had to have this to go to the kennel. The gave him the medicine in his nose via liquid instead of the shot to work quicker. Went to the kennel the next day--he couldn't go because it had to be in his system for 48 hours, so they put him in the hospital part of the kennel. We ended up picking him up the next day before he even was put in the kennel. Ever since my dog has been sick. I took him to the vet Tuesday and they gave him a shot and put him on 2 antibiotics for tonsilitis and a bacteria infection. My dog is still sick and sounds like when he coughs kind of wheezes. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with this? I called the vet today--not real fond of him, but he's the doc not me. My dog was fine before he had this kennel med.
