6 AnswersSoftware6 years agoPoll: Should the Monday after the start of Daylight Saving Time be declared a holiday?
Every year I hear the people who want to end DST bring up the sleep deprivation and accidents that occur on this day (3/9 this year in the US). Considering extra evening sunlight is generally beneficial to most people, do you think having an extra day to adjust to the transition would be a good idea?
5 AnswersPolls & Surveys6 years agoWhy are freemium mobile games so popular?
With all the tactics developers of those games are using to get money, it seems like they shouldn't be that successful. Features such as purchases amounting to no more than a bypass for hours of waiting, very limited functionality without multiple in-app purchases, etc. would seem to drive potential consumers away from them and instead to similar (possibly paid) games of likely better quality. I would think people would rather pay $1-2 for a very well-made game than download one that ceaselessly begs players for money after they have started playing.

10 AnswersPolitics6 years agoHow to have multiple option selection in Java?
(I tried to ask a similar question earlier, but couldn't get 100% of what I wanted).
I am writing a program that prompts a user with 5 options, and I would like some way that they can choose to have any number of those options that they want. The program should not continue until the user affirms that it should (with an OK button or something, like JOptionPane) but I want all 5 options visible to the user simultaneously (I was thinking checkboxes, but I don't know how to implement those while still delaying the program until after the user has made their selection. Checkbox implementations I have seen are usually in JFrames and update something immediately as they are checked, not what I want. This occurs in the middle of the method I am writing, not an entire program.)How can I go about doing this?
(Example of such a program that would need this:)
A message appears, the user has 5 options, and can check any number of them. After they hit OK, a message box would appear and tell them the numbers of the boxes they checked. If they checked the first, second, and fourth checkboxes, they would receive a message "1 2 4". I do not want the message to appear until the user has affirmed their final selection.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design6 years agoHow would I do this in Java? (checkboxes/options)?
I am trying to allow a user to select any number of 5 checkboxes before hitting an OK button to continue on with the program, which will behave accordingly depending on which ones were selected.
For a simple example, let's say I make a short program where I ask a user to select checkboxes, and I will display a message with certain strings out of a set of 5, but only ones corresponding to the selected boxes will be shown. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?
(i.e., let's say I have 5 strings, "Hello", "Pumpkin", "Spice" "42", "Goodbye". I would display the string "Pumpkin" in a message only if the second checkbox was previously selected, and "42" only if the fourth one was. These checkboxes would be selected previously by a user, and they would have like an "OK" button or something to display the message when they are ready. I need some way that a user can choose more than one option in a choice while waiting to continue with a program until the user is ready.)

3 AnswersPolls & Surveys7 years agoHas this site been loading incredibly slowly for everyone?
If I try to go to the question categories (to look at questions), the webpage doesn't respond. I give up after about 10 seconds or so. This started around last Thursday or Friday. Does everyone else have this same problem? I've heard about the site being slow, but it was never unreasonably so for me before.
1 AnswerYahoo Answers7 years agoHow do you add notes to slides on powerpoint?
I'm trying to add various on-screen annotations to the slides on my PowerPoint, but I would like them to always be part of the slide, not something that is added during the middle of the slide show. (I know you can add things like brackets and colored text to slides, in this case to analyze poems).

13 AnswersPolls & Surveys7 years agoHow do you feel about Daylight Saving Time?
Mostly, I was wondering your opinion to which one of these three scenarios regarding DST you would prefer the most.
1. Having standard (winter) time for 12 months, no clock shift (Disadvantage: very early summer sunrises, wasted light that could be used in the evening, even darker afternoons in winter)
2. Having daylight saving time (summer time) for all 12 months, no clock shift (Disadvantage: very dark winter mornings) (Advantage: lighter in afternoons)
3. You prefer having the sometimes confusing clock shift because of the resulting sunrise and sunset times
If you want to look up the sunrise and sunset for where you live, you can do it at
aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.php (National weather Service sunrise and sunset calculator, only uses standard time, though, so you will have to input the time zone one hour further east to calculate it on daylight saving time. Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours west from Greenwich)
With the clock shift in the US this weekend, I was wondering what your opinions are.
It's also helpful to input where you live(just to the state/province level or degrees latitude/longitude so I can see how opinions very geographically.)

2 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoDo seasons return in the gameplay of Pokemon X and Y?
Similar to the Generation V games in which they were introduced. Also note if there have been any major changes to the way they function if they returned.
