14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoHow do you "know" anything?
Some people say they need "proof". What is proof but a completion of a math problem?
Some people say they need evidence. There's evidence of a lot of things, but it's our judgement of the evidence that matters.
In terms of epistemology, the two core components of the secular worldview are empiricism and rationale. There are problems with both.
Empirical methods have no verification that what we see, hear, touch corresponds with reality. It also falsely presumes that all things discoverable and important will be discovered by these means.
Rational methods also lack verification and further no one can agree on what is rational. There is no common consensus (despite the R&S exclusive claims that one group or another is the only rational ones).
So isn't it that even to know something you must first believe something? The things we think we know actually have a foundation of faith.

What was an instance that a Christian did something or said something that really hurt you?
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoAtheists, if you were to accept Christ, what one thing would you dread changing the most?
Obviously people who follow Christ need to try to live their lives according to what He wants us to do. What change would you really not want to make?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoWhat is the purpose and limitation of science?
Do you think that science can answer all questions for us?
- Who should you marry?
- Does someone love you?
- What is right?
- Why are you here?
- What happened historically (events occurring only once, no repetition)
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoAtheists, Theists, and All Others ... what is your myers-briggs personality type?
Here's a brief summary if you haven't had the test before:
http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory....
Look 1/3rd down the page to find the descriptors.
Or here for a more full test
http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-te...
Please state both.
(1) What is your personality type
(2) What is your belief system (Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist etc)
I wonder if N's tend to be religious and S's tend to want more data. Perhaps our propensity to believe has correlations with how we are preference in this perception category.
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoChristians, why are you so mean to atheists?
Do you realize that when you are mean to them you are a disgrace to God? Do you realize that when Jesus was angry he was only angry at the religious because they knew better? Do you realize that you won't win any flies with vinegar, it takes honey? Do you realize that if you are mean to them because they are mean to us that you are no different than they are?
For the love of God, stop insulting people. Do your best to gently instruct others and provide a defense for your faith!
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoIs being gay more genetic or more choice?
I've read several studies that indicate that homosexuality is genetic, but I have a hard time giving them any credibility. That's because the only tool used to assess whether or not they are gay is the verbal confirmation of the test subject.
Are there studies that actual use objective criteria to verify someone's homosexuality or is it all left to subjectivity? If so, I have a hard time thinking those studies have any quality.

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat do you think of these common assumptions that atheists make?
1) The only possible way to discover truth is through scientific verification.
2) If something cannot be verified scientifically then it is not real.
These seem to be two flawed assumptions, imo, what do you think?
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow does the mixture of some the early state constitutions and religion make you feel?
At least 5 of the early state constitutions indicated that you had to believe in God and some specifically profess that Jesus was Lord and the bible was true in order to hold office.

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists: Do you believe Bin Laden is dead?
... even if there is no proof?
What if you had to make a call on this and you got $10,000,000 if you were right and lost $10,000,000 if you were wrong? What would be your "final answer"?

Isn't it. Clearly there are exceptions.
Can you disprove my evidence against it?
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCould God make a rock so heavy he can't lift it?
What is your response and what do you think of my response?
My Response: God couldn't create a rock so heavy he can't lift it because there is no such weight. Mathematically speaking the set of weights that God can lift is {infinity} the set of weights that God cannot lift is {null}.
People who ask this question are trying to say that God can't do everything because he can't create a rock so heavy he can lift. Thus there is SOMETHING he can't do. However, as I've covered mathematically, there are no items in that subset. Thus it isn't a SOMETHING he can't do. I guess it's a NOTHING he can't do.

13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs the statistic that "75% of prisoners are Christians" a joke?
According to the DOJ Bureau of Justice Statistics (National Census of the Jail Population 12/31/95), while 72% affirmed affiliation with religious institutions (determined through answers to the question on "Religious Background" on the Penal entrance form) only 54% of Federal and State Prisoners actually consider themselves religious, and 33% can be confirmed to be practicing their religion. This is demonstrated by attendance records at religious services, which averaged anywhere between 30% and 40%, depending upon the time of year and the institution in question (and who was preaching). These figures are comparable to the national average as establish by the Gallup organization. [Source: http://www.errantskeptics.org/Ancient_Statistics.h...
The statistically verifiable reality should come as no surprise to those who have first hand experience with criminal and religious sociology:
1. The majority of Americans (85%) have a stated religious preference.
2. The majority of American prisoners (between 80 and 100%, depending on the study consulted) also have a stated religious preference.
3. A disproportionately high number of prisoners were not in any way practicing religionists prior to incarceration. That is, they exhibited none of the standard sociological measures of religiosity, such as regular prayer, scripture study, and attendance at worship services.
24 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"75% of Prisoners are Christians"?
People who quote this are you aware of how many Christian ministries are going into prisons? Do you have any stats on how many were Christians when they entered prisons? That would be a little more convincing.

8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you have evidence for macroevolution?
Evolutionists regularly claim that evolution can be seen going on around us all the time. Often they point to the variety we see within the dog kind as an example of evolution in action. What they don't seem to understand is that not all change can be claimed as an evolutionary change. The kind of changes we going on in dogs are really just the result of old genes being recombined in new ways. For evolution to occur, brand new genes must somehow be created through random mutations. This has never been seen.
