  • what makes prenatal blood testing so expensive in India?

I`m 16 weeks and 3 days and tomorrow will get some blood tests done. I understand that my Gyn is taking very good care of me, but really ordering me to do bloodwork that costs about 5000 Rs alltogether seams kind of nuts. Since we are already tight on finances it kinda annoys me that she didnt even mention the possible costs and weather or not some of the tests are optional.

The list of the tests includes even HIV. I mean how would it change my pregnancy even if i had such.

  • Please guess my babies gender! Answers cant be right or wrong.. obviously.. :)?

I`m 14 and 1/2 weeks pregnant in India! I`m myself European, but being here i have to accept that gender-scanning is illegal! :)

This is my first baby and me and my hubby are hoping for a girl, but we would love both.

Can you please make a fun activity and try guessing my babies gender from this 13 weeks ultrasound picture (sorry its the back, doc didnt make any other clear pictures except the head measurement!) :)

And my belly shot at 14 weeks

Can you also tell why you think its one or the other? (gut feeling is a good answer too!) :)

Well, obviously i wont be picking the 'best answer' since there is no such thing for this question.

  • some advice to gain weight in pregnancy?

Hi! I`m a little over 14 weeks in my pregnancy. I had doctors appointment yesterday and it turns out i`m losing weight constantly. I was 56 kg (123lbs) pre-pregnancy, 53.4kg (118lbs) at 9 weeks and 52kg(114.5lbs) now at 14 weeks. Doc wasnt happy and told me to eat whatever i can. I havent puked since i pregnant, but feel sick quite often and cant eat much - my stomach seems to have shrunk. I just had a meal - 4 dumplings (dim-sums), 3 cookies and a glass of milk and i feel like i wont be able to eat anythin for about 6 hrs. another example of one of my meals is a slice of bread with sausage and an apple.

Do you have any suggestions for me how to put on weight without having to puke from forced meals?

Also - have you had a pregnancy like this and did it turn out ok eventually?

will i have enough breastmilk if i dont put on enough weight?

  • Is it illegal to gender scan the whole pregnancy in India?

I`m from Europe, part of the world where you are happy about your baby no matter what the gender is. However, i have ended up pregnant in India and as far as i know scanning for the babys gender is illegal over here.

I was just unsure if thats illegal only say first 20-30 weeks or the whole pregnancy?

We are actually hoping for a girl, and would love to start some color shopping, besides, i think that knowing the gender of the baby would allow me bond with it more before its born.

So ya, this kinda sucks. I`m definitely shy to ask this to my docs, dont want them to think anything bad of me.

  • cats and dogs stools harm during pregnancy?

OK, heres the thing. I know that pregnant women shouldnt clean cat litter due to some toxic stuff in it.

And the embarrassing part: we have a 9 months old Great Dane puppy who we never managed to train potty outside. His trainer described him as shy, which means that he doesnt go when on a leash, but we cant let such giant dog loose. I mean he is friendly, but people just freak out + we cant let him do it 'anywhere'.

So we ended up allowing him to do his business in our washroom and other than little pee smell on the hot days its been working good. We have drainage system in the washroom flooring, so most of that goes away anyways, poop is quite easy to collect.

I was just thinking if cleaning the washroom after him can be harmful for my pregnancy? Or is it something particular about cats?

I cant really stop cleaning since i`m the only one home when my hubby leaves to office, but i could try breathing more carefully if it can be harmful.

  • desparate about changing table: how to get one in India?

I`m European and live with my Indian husband in India. I`m in my 4th month of pregnancy and starting to think about baby furniture.

Cribs are somewhat available, but a normal changing table is pretty much out of our reach! They basically just dont sell them! All i have found is open-shelves changing table, but we have a huge puppy dog, who just goes through everything, so i need drawers or dresser type of doors.

I was seeing some from amazon, but a 160 $ changing table would have around 400$ shipping and custom charges, so i`m really getting desparate! This is India, my husband doesnt really earn that much to afford 400$ on shipping!

Do you know any International baby furniture site that will have affordable shipping charges? Maybe something from china?

This country just makes me cry every other day. Nothing is similar to what i have used to, not even close and it will take time to fulfill our future plans of moving to civilization. Here all i see is crime, dirt, chili and poverty.

  • How did u feel during fainting in pregnancy? Is this normal?

Well after a few weeks of being at home mostly, i decided i wanted to go for a little shopping in the mall. I was fine, but a bit short of breath for the first 30 minutes or so, but then in the food shop i started to feel like fainting. I know that pregnancy fainting is associated to light-headedness, but mine felt nothing like that.

My body went all heated up, there was unbearable pressure on my brain, my vision blurred and i started seeing blue spots. I just sat there in the middle of the food shop for a while, because i just couldnt stand.

My husband was right next to me, holding me, he was completely confused. It happens he is Indian, we live in India, and i am European with light hair. People around us started commenting, thinking that my poor hubby has drugged me and about to do smth bad.

Anyways.. it just didnt feel anything like light-head. It felt terribly bad.

I`m at 12 weeks today. When do symptoms like these usually go away and when will i be able to do baby-shopping without worrying about my well-being.

  • Is it possible that body feels less pain during pregnancy?

Ok, the weirdest thing. First of all, i am only 10 and a half weeks pregnant.

I usually remove the hair from my legs with that epilator machine that just plucks them right out with the root while spinning.

It used to be like crazy painful procedure for me that i was always trying to postpone as much as possible. I tried to do it when i was angry with someone so that my mind would just be somewhere else.

Today i went through it again and for the first time i was like - whow - i could do this and sing! I did feel some slight pain, but it didnt bug me not a bit!

I know its weird, but can that be because of my pregnancy?

  • losing weight during 1st trimester?

    Hi!

I`m 24 and i am pregnant for the first time. I am 165 cm tall and before pregnancy i was 56 kg.

At 9 weeks i was 53 kg and now i`m 10 weeks 2 days and my hubby was just massaging my back and commenting that my bones are too easy to touch and that i have lost weight.

So it really troubles me a bit since i know that for a healthy pregnancy i should gain weight, not the other way around.

Nutrition-wise i think i eat enough. i eat mainly honey coated cereal with milk, yogurt, some bits of meat (sausages), a few slices of bread per day and then plenty of tomatoes and variety of fruits, occasionally (once a week or 2) i`d take a fish burger, fries or pasta.

However, i believe that calorie-wise i`m not getting nearly enough since almost nothing i eat is rich in calories.

I have had my morning sickness from week 5-7, then from week 9 it started again. But in between i was feeling kinda fine, but still not getting my appetite up.

I dont really feel like pushing myself to eat tons of butter or drink oil! :)

So is this bad for my baby or is it ok? And what if my appetite just doesnt go up at all during pregnancy?

  • nutrients in pregnancy and crazy mother in law?

Well, i do have my doctor that i trust completely, but it just happens that i have a crazy mother in law (actually an aunt) who happens to be a doctor and according to her all nutrients you need in pregnancy is folic acid in first trimester and b-complex in 2nd trimester.

Honestly i find her to be dumb, annoying and a crappy specialist, but maybe i`m wrong since shes a doctor, not me.

She even wanted me to stop taking 500mg calcium when i was in first trimester, which i didnt since i think its best for me.

So the question is - what are the vitamins needed extra in first 2 trimesters?

P.S. I`m living in India and i`m not even sure if there is such thing as combined prenatal pills, people just tend to buy different vitamins separately.

  • where should i check if my new fridge leaks oil?

We bought a new fridge yesterday, so today we got it delivered. I waited out around 10-11 hours and then now switched it on. The service guys said to see if it leaks oil.

The thing is - where should i see it in case it does? Inside the fridge? or on the back of it or under it? And within what time-frame will it happen if it does?

What are the chances of it anyways?

Sorry for so many questions - new housewife confused :)

  • HELP! what are the chances of miscarriage with a surgery performed in first trimester?

I am now 8 weeks pregnant with a so far perfect baby with perfect heartbeat and perfect growth according to ultrasounds made today at 8 weeks and 2 weeks ago at 6 weeks.

However, there is a large ovarian cyst (fluid filled) that was around 6-7 cm 2 weeks ago and 7.5-8cm now.

Not to endanger the growth of the baby, it will have to be surgically sucked out quite urgently.

What risk will this surgery put on my baby?

What is the normal rate of miscarriages and whats the rate of miscarriages after such surgeries in first trimester?

  • large ovarian cyst in early pregnancy!?

I did my first ultrasound at 6 weeks and we saw 6-7 cm cyst on my ovary. Doc said that it will likely go away, so today i had a repeated scan at 8 weeks pregnancy and the cyst has grown by about 1 cm. So the question for me seems to be more of not if its gonna go away but how to take it away since its starting to push on the baby and could quite soon endanger its growth.

The doc said that they would put a needle through my belly and suck it out. Is it really that easy as it sounds? because all over the internet from what i have read and seen it actually seems that the needle is half an inch thick and its more of surgery that a simple 'pulling the liquid out'.

Any experiences regarding this? How painful is it? How much in danger will my baby be? - right now its condition is pretty much perfect!

  • pregnancy symptoms disappearing at 7 weeks?

Ok, yesterday i thought it was just a lucky day and since my nausea was less crazy. Today it is again almost not there, though i still havent got my appetite back. Today it already starts worrying me.

Should i be concerned about lessening of symptoms this early? I had had nauseous feeling for the past 2 weeks. My breasts are still a little sore, but also seams less.

I do have some preggo tests left to check on my pregnancy, but i`m not sure if the positives they might give will be right - how soon does body clear up from the HCG hormone in case of miscarriage?

2 weeks ago we did an early ultrasound, it said i was 5 weeks and 3 days and they even detected heartbeat!

I do have a repeated ultrasound sceduled tomorrow since they thought they might have seen a little blood clot, but i have had no bleeding of any kind and the gyno said it also might be some kinda gap between sac and uterus wall in early pregnancy. I also had 6 cm ovarian cyst to check on, but that shouldnt interfere with the baby, not this early anyways.

  • how fast does HCG gather up in urine?

Ok, so the thing is that today i am officially 7 weeks pregnant according to my last ultrasound.

I am addicted to making pregnancy tests now and then. I did my last a week ago and it was as dark as it can be.

Today i made my test only 5-10 minutes after my last pee (5-10 minutes between peeing) and the test came back still quite dark, but its definitely not the darkest that it can be.

I know i`m a little over-crazy-excited or something to do such a dumbo thing, but anyways - how fast does HCG gathers in the urine? Was the test lighter just because of that short time-span or should i be worried that its gettin lighter?

  • Genetics: Indian and European mix, possible outcomes?

:) I am now in the beginning of the 7th week of my pregnancy and super - excited! :)

I was wondering how might our baby look like, since...

-my husband is 1/8 German, the rest - Indian. His father and grandfather have pretty fair skin for Indians and they have blue-gray eyes. My husband looks pretty much Indian except for very European-like facial features. His skin is pretty dark, eyes are dark brown, but not yet black, hair is pretty much black.

-I am pure eastern-European. blue-gray eyes, dark blond hair that look more gray and very fair and easy to sunburn skin.

Any guesses on our babies genetics? What are the chances of different than brown eyes or different than black hair? :) I would just love to see some of my features in our kid, because the dominant genes are against me as far as i know..

  • morning sickness - do you ever get used to it?

Well i`m now around 6 weeks pregnant and for the last 3-4 days ive been having morning sickness or in my case whole day sickness.

Do you ever get used to it? Or you just have to live through this terrible feeling for 2-3 months?

Honestly, i`ve had it for couple of days and i`m all tired already. I want some rest from it, i want to be able to look at food without disgust!

  • do i have to shave before pregnancy ultrasound?

Sorry for a dumb question, but i am a first timer and as far as i know my baby is behind my pubic bone in early pregnancy.

I wanted to know if i have to shave before going to ultrasound or if they`ll be able to do their job (comfortably) without me doing it.

Any comments on what to expect would be welcome (i`ll be around 8 weeks preggo till the time i go there next week)

  • breasts and pregnancy. sizes? when?

I`m 24 yo and around 7 weeks pregnant now. I have had sore and hot breasts for some 2 weeks now, in the past few days i am also seeing some blue veins.

Anyways, by nature i have small, firm bumps sized A.

Since for me the pregnancy is also a way to finally enjoy bigger boobs, i just wanted to know when would it normally happen and what size should i expect?

Also if you would know - when will i start to show most likely if i was 165 cm and 53 kg before pregnancy. Right now i`m just having a bloating bump due to bad gasses.
