Me confunde el uso de la preposición "a".

i've seen that 55% or more of the adult population are fat, at least 25% cant find the huge territory of the us in a map, only 1/5 can speak a second language (mostly foreigners living there), and that in 7 states atheists cant hold a public office, so i wonder what do these guys do at school, read the bible and hear stories about the us saving the world in the world wars? do they tell them the soviets on the east front did most of the fighting in WW2? what's wrong with them?
