  • I have recently learned that FIFA is insidiously corrupt. does google know about this?

everyday, on it's front page, google is giving me the impression that FIFA is the most adorable thing ever. It's all about the funnest, most colorful activities possible.

but FIFA actually seems to be a money-sucking organization that does not benefit its host countries' economies. http://www.firedrive.com/file/2419F2D7E67C02A6

does google not know about this? do they not care? is FIFA does as evil as I have been told?

help! what is the deal? google, [set aside the privacy debate for a moment] is usually a pretty socially-conscious company, right? [support of expanding gay rights, the environment. also, they are pro-net neutrality.] so what's the deal?

    thanks.

  • how rich do you have to be to be considered 'stanky rich'?

starting point: I believe 50 cent is considered stanky rich. [a forbes article estimate he is worth about 100 milion]. so, what do you think? is it about income or wealth holdings or what? thx.

  • one discrete free choice vs reverse psychology?

there seems to be a fine line between:

person A, who can deftly manipulate others by understanding complex systems and observing behavior patterns. he can usually guess another's next move. so he cleverly treats others so that they 'choose' according to his liking but feel that they chose freely. (person A may be considered a 'tricky but effective leader'? I am not sure.)

person B who truly honors the freedom of others to make choices. but he knows that that true freedom makes those individuals accountable for the consequences primarily to themselves when they act. there is less interdependence under this rubric. intentional forms of community & social organization are more difficult.

so what the F is the deal? are there other styles? can hierarchy be avoided or made wholly non-coercive? do I have it all wrong? can man rule himself or what?

[lost fans: you can refer to season 4 ep 11 to see that lock & ben linus have similar dispositions but are distinct in important ways. ]

  • who are the muslims in the movie Children of Men and do they relate to the central storyline?

toward the end of the movie the Children of Men, Theo and Kee have crossed into a refugee area, where the first baby on earth in 18 years is born. as they are making their escape there is a parade of people shouting "allah u akbar". they have guns and seem pretty protesty. what is their deal? how do muslims and islam fit into this particular fictional future landscape?

  • I consider my dog to be a person. how do we know when a being counts as a person?

whenever I meet a dog, it takes me a few seconds to be convinced that he or he is a person. but does it matter what I say or think about it? can I say that MY dog is a person? can I say that all dogs are persons?

under the law, dogs are not natural persons but corporations (artificial or legal persons) have numerous rights that natural persons enjoy.

BONUS POINTS: {the following is purposely not related except in this way: I want to see how far people will go in accepting certain philosophical conceits to erode support for a gov't official they oppose and if any valuable trade-offs can be made.I suspect the offer to deal fairly would not be desired.} [[I will engage honestly and directly and deal fairly with all parties in debates that involve the words "obama" and "muslim" if we first all agree that dogs are people.]] thank you.

  • if you really oppose the federal reserve, shouldn't you be a little less of a conspiracy-theory nut?

what would that really look like, to really dismantle the fed? do proponents of this really think everyday consumers can handle that kind of new landscape? I think it would tighten the leash of the gov't budget. but wouldn't this move curtail the power of america, globally, by shrinking our "overall" economic activity? is that really what we want?

  • what's more valuable with respect to facebook, it's content, or it's interface?"?

I asked this before and it got deleted. (weird?)

so think about it- CONTENT- there is text content in a couple different forms-- profile info, various types of comments. there is photo content. seeing who's friends, depending on one's settings

INTERFACE- the funness, ease or the experience. the clarity with which we get the content.

& there r probly other elements, right? such as "platform".

someday facebook will go public. someday (perhaps long after that) facebook will die. but for now it's enormously valuable. could these constiuent parts be separated? I can't forsee that they could. but, yeah.

  • is contract political mercenary a good job? just smear campaigns and stuff.?

it's not like a regular mercenary. it means "gun for hire"- not literally. just look up mercenary and transpose "political battles" for "war". and "contract" just means temporary, flexible.
