Bigger bedroom or bigger bathroom?
My house is old and kind of badly designed. So it has the bathroom at the front but the drainage at the back.
Which means there is a hideous ugly waste pipe running all around the outside of the house from front to back.
I want to get rid of it but I have a few options.
I can leave my bathroom at the front and look to my water company to reconnect the waste to the existing drain under the street in front of my house. It will cost thousands for them to dig up the street and connect it up.
The other option is to move the bathroom to the back of the house. This will leave me with a big bathroom and a tiny bedroom.
So in terms of long term sale ability and personal preference would you guys prefer a bigger bathroom or a bigger bedroom? And the resulting bedroom would be very small. Like a box room.
And there are three bedrooms in total. The main being massive in the attic and the other being reasonably sized.
8 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling2 years agoIs cholesterol by itself a bad thing?
So the reason I ask this is because I've always thought there would be a distinction between the traditionally "bad" cholesterol created in response to a high fat diet and other sources of cholesterol like eggs.
Now eggs have quite a bit of cholesterol in them. Yet eating a high protein diet usually for me involves quite a lot of eggs.
BUT if you were to keep your fat intake to a minimum and ate a lot of eggs what would happen to that extra load of cholesterol?
In my mind if you have high cholesterol BECAUSE you eat a poor high fat diet that is bad BECAUSE of the high fat in your diet not necessarily the cholesterol itself. The cholesterol is just a by product of your fat in take.
If I have high cholesterol but relatively low fat I assume my body will just break down the excess cholesterol over time right? And because the rest of my diet actually has a relatively low amount of fat I can live in the knowledge that my body isn't going to suffer from the usual long term side effects of a crap diet.
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness2 years agoStock market gains tax declaration?
In the UK the tax threshold for stock market or currency trading gains is £11,000 if I am not mistaken.
After that you get taxed on the gains based on your income tax bracket.
But do I have to declare all gains even if they are under the threshold?
Since they won't tax my meagre gains anyway do I have to go through the rigmarole of dealing with HMRC and their red tape BS?
It's just I don't want them to set the dogs on me because I made £50 trading BitCoin.
3 AnswersUnited Kingdom3 years agoCan you be turned down for a job if your references are too slow?
I have applied for and been offered a job.
Unfortunately in addition to the two references I supplied they requested another.
The people at my previous work are incompetent to say the least. No one communicates. No one knows what the other people are doing. It is infuriating.
Anyway unsurprisingly I ve sent in a request for a reference and I ve not heard anything back. I ve rang up and there is never any answer. I ve gone in in person and talked to them still no progress. I ve given the details of two people to contact and still nothing.
This is delaying my start date for my new job. Is it possible that they will get to a point where they will take back their offer for the job? Just because it is taking too long? Are they legally obligated to get that reference or is it just a matter of "Okay they are incompetent lets just get you in for an induction."?

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay7 years agoBoots the Chemist, UK, what is the title of their own brand product supplier?
I am an Undergraduate studying Chemistry. I have worked part time at Boots in their stores but I am interested in seeing what their "behind the scenes" set up is like, manufacturing wise.
Obviously the No7 and Boots own cosmetic and products brands have to be manufactured somewhere and new ones have to be created/researched somewhere also, but I can't find any leads through their website.
I'm thinking that they don't have a "Boots" supplier making "Boots and No7" products specifically, more like a Chemical company that some time in the past took on the job and have been ever since.
Anyone know who this is so I can dig deeper?
2 AnswersCorporations7 years agoPC troubleshooting, no noises, no slow down, just straight failure to boot?
I have an Acer Aspire V3-571G. Had it about two years now.
The only issue in the past I've had was it came with a broken hard drive which I swapped out and upgraded at the same time. Turned out good.
Since then I have had NOTHING wrong with it and I do mean nothing at all.
Until this morning I fired it up and it crashed at the Welcome logo. That was strange but hey technology is technology. I forced it to shut down and started it up again. Did the same thing.
The only thing I can think of that was even slightly wrong with it was AVG Anti-virus yesterday wigged out on me a bit. I got one of the Windows Error, your family is in danger get out now warnings up saying I wasn't protected from viruses. Sure enough when I opened AVG most of the settings had dropped off. Now I've not been on any dodgy sites, I've not downloaded any files that weren't from professional companies. The chances of me getting a virus or something that specifically targetted the AVG seems a little slim since I've not done anything.
But I decided to reinstall AVG, I downloaded the installer again. Run it, everything worked fine. Until this morning when it failed to start.
There was no slow down of the system over time. There has been no sudden grinding noises or blue-screens of death. Nothing that would indicate a system in trouble.
I don't understand how this can be. Unless there is something very wrong with AVG at this moment.

When I start Google Chrome now the stupid AVG Safe Search keeps opening and also an additional tab which just comes up with an invalid webpage. I don't use them and have no idea where they have come from.

1 AnswerOther - Internet7 years agoHow can you calculate coupling constants?
I know you work out coupling constants using the spectra but I want to find a way of working out coupling constants for a given isotope of Tin when you know the gyromagnetic ratio and obviously stuff like spin and magnetic field strength.
Apparently this is possible without using the spectra but I'm at a loss as to how to do it. None of my course material is any help.
1 AnswerChemistry7 years agoMy phone seems to burn through credit, what gives?
I've just upgraded my phone from a bog standard phone I bought like six years a go or something (being totally serious as well) for like £20, to an HTC Windows Phone 8 or something like that.
I'm liking the phone. Looks good, is handy if you need to find something online quickly and don't have a computer handy. But the thing just seems to chew away at my credit even though I'm not using it.
I'm not a big phone user. Am never in a position really right now where emailing people for free or speaking to them face to face isn't preferable. So I'm still on pay as you go. I didn't feel like getting shafted by stupid price plans but it would appear they are doing it anyway.
I make the odd text and phone call and like I said a quick internet search but NEVER outside of WiFi access.
Yet my credit is nearly a quarter of what it was a week ago and I've barely even used it.
I mean do they charge you to use WiFi internet or something?
I don't want to force my phone into plane mode for the entirety of its life but this can't go on.
Any ideas what might be doing it?
2 AnswersMobile Phones & Plans8 years agoJust to clarify on this recipe?
This is a really dumb question I know but I'm making Brownies and the recipe says:
300g each plain chocolate and milk chocolate.
Just to clarify that means I need 300g of each doesn't it? Not 300g with half and half of each. It is just I don't want to go out shopping and buy too much or worse too little.
I don't know why it couldn't just write both separately but whatever.
Thanks.
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoResolution and anti-aliasing?
Does the increasing power cost of higher resolutions outweigh the saving from not having to use techniques like anti-aliasing?
I only ask because I heard a story from a person who went to Gamescom who said he played a game fully rendered in 4K and the game didn't need anti-aliasing, because the pixels were so dense.
But are you actually using less power here than sub 4K resolution with anti-aliasing?
My instinct is it is probably negligible but I'm not sure.
1 AnswerMonitors8 years agoCar insurance for "family" car?
My mum is learning to drive and my dad got her a small Vauxhall Corsa and the idea was to insure me on the car so I have access to it should I need it.
The quote just come in at £1300 ish and well for a car I may or may not be driving that much I am not going to pay it.
On my own if I owned the same car I have found insurance of around £700 which is more acceptable.
The problem is I don't own the car and my dad is insured on it and my mum is insured on it as a learner, but could I then insure myself on that same car separately? Naturally I'd have to tell them who owns the car but other than that?
The main problem is I'm 21, have not driven in three years since passing my test (due to insurance funnily enough) and a student, which is a potent mix for insurance companies ripping you off as much as possible.
7 AnswersInsurance & Registration8 years agoYeah so my internet speed just went up?
I have an average internet connection, 5MB is about max in my area, can't get fibre.
When downloading stuff my connection normally hovers around 500 KBs to 700KBs. My new laptop has some grunt to it now. i7 processor, 8GB DDR, 2GB video RAM.
Yesterday I replaced the hard drive because it was a little broken and I knew it was only a matter of time because it killed itself but I went onto Steam last night to re-download my games and the internet connection is hitting 1MB/s I have NEVER seen it hit that for more than half a second at most.
Is it possibly my broken hard drive was bottlenecking the internet speed? I mean I thought that that would only happen if the components were particularly slow but that is quite a jump.
1 AnswerComputer Networking8 years agoLaw or not: concerning animals?
I was just out walking my two Jack Russels. They were off of the lead on a field near my house. It is a well maintained place, overlooking some tennis courts and many houses with their backs to it.
While I was out a group of kids came across, one had a youngish looking Rottweiler on the lead. The kids can't have been much more than 12-13. My dogs paid it no mind playing with their ball but after a while my dog went over to the side of the field sniffing in some bushes and the Rottweiler was just on the other side of the same bushes, which I didn't notice until I was closer. I was making my way over at this point but they saw each other around the branches.
It "bolted" towards my dogs but was obviously on the lead, right up until the little child holding it let go and the thing was running free with its lead still attached.
I as you can imagine was sprinting at this point and when I got closer realised it did have a black mussel of some sort on. Its body language was very aggressive though. I got a hold of my own dogs and the kid eventually caught the dog again.
If that dog didn't have a mussel my dog would be seriously injured if not dead right now. I would also have had to explain to someone why it took three grown men to drag me off of the dogs corpse after I had ripped its spine out with my bare hands and stamped its brain into the ground a couple of thousand times in the blind rage that would no doubt have taken hold.
It did get me thinking though, if I had in the process of all of this stamped on the beasts head until it stopped twitching how would that be handled? Is it a legal thing? Would it just be a case of me explaining myself to the owner, which considering the fact a bunch of kids were allowed to take a Rottweiler out in broad daylight can only be the sort of retards you see in the dole office e.g. police would probably be called at some point.
The child obviously shouldn't have had the dog in the first place. The dog was probably only a fraction of the weight of my entire body, and pretty much pure muscle at that. It would have torn my Jack into ribbons without even a thought and it would most likely cost me a lot of blood getting a hold of the thing.
Makes me wish I never owned a dog.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoHard Drive issues intermitent?
I bought a laptop last summer and while I was setting it up a quite horrible clicking sound started and the laptop ground to a halt.
The ticking sound happened then it stopped. It was fine for a couple of days then it happened again. Then nothing again.
After a few repeats of this I decided that I'd have a look at the hard drive so I took it out and there were no physical problems with it that I could see. So my guess is that this isn't something major but like something that is loose inside somewhere.
I put it back in anyway and then I didn't have a single issue for months and months. Right up to the point when it happened again. It wasn't overly frequent but it did start again. I took it out and after putting it back in no issues since.
Does this sound like anything anyone has encountered before. I'd really rather not replace it if I can help it but unless there is a reasonably simple fix it is most likely going to kill itself sooner or later. But of course when that happens I'm going to lose anything not backed up which will be a pain.
Any help appreciated.
1 AnswerOther - Hardware8 years agoAll my music gone to the iCloud (or bat cave for the good it does me)?
What the hell is up with iTunes? I've not been on there for ages since I listen to my music on iPod and on the bus so when I get home I normally don't want to listen to any more. I went on iTunes today anyway to have a look at some music on iTunes store and I noticed ALL of my music had lost its rating. Then I noticed when I tried to play a song it was streaming rather than just playing!
I mean surely they haven't done what I think they have done and physically removed all of my music from my computer in the last update. I mean is there iCloud such a pile of **** that they need to force the implementation on people?
Someone please tell me I don't need to re-download all of my music before I can listen to them offline again. No wonder Apple nearly died in the 90s. They don't seem to realise how good they are.....when they aren't trying to force crappy ideas onto everyone. The iPhone wouldn't have done a thing without Steve Jobs' magic charisma and the iPad don't even make me laugh. Now it seems they are screwing their prized possessions as well.
1 AnswerSoftware8 years agoIntel Graphics Controller Custom Resolution?
So I have been trying my laptop on my HD TV via HDMI today and it worked beautifully at 1080p resolution. I noticed though when I was going through changing the resolutions for the TV that there is an option in there that is called custom resolution.
What I wanted to clarify is if I was to just use my on board monitor and go through the settings and set it to full 1080p resolution it wouldn't work, would it?
I mean I know my graphics and hardware (excluding monitor) can handle it because I was playing games earlier on my TV on full 1080p, but I didn't want to blow my monitor up or something by being stupid with it. I mean my native resolution without the custom stuff is 1366 x 768. It didn't fill me with confidence with the warning messages coming up on the screen as well saying like "BEWARE! We won't take responsibility if you destroy your computer! Sincerly Intel" etc etc.
It would just be awesome if I could force my computer into 1080p though, without damaging it of course.
If someone could just clarify this for me that would be great. Cheers.
2 AnswersMonitors8 years agoPain in my hip AFTER I run?
I've been running at the gym for about six months now and I've recently been getting this pain in my hip after I finish my session. I normally run for about 40 minutes and don't really have any pain when I'm actually running.
It feels like it is on or around the ball and socket joint of my left hip/femur (only the left keep in mind). It hurts for example when I lift my leg up off of the ground and pull my knee up towards my chest (I don't actually get close to my chest but the movement still applies). The pain also seems to lessen if I "push" the pain a little bit. Like for example if I do some sort of stretching exercises the pain does lessen significantly.
I was wondering if it might be small fractures due to the fact I am not exactly a skinny person weighing 82kg, and I did have shin splints not so long ago but that pain seemed a little different to this one partly because you can't stretch bone and I would imagine doing stretches would do nothing (if possibly make it worse) if it was fracturing.
Any ideas?
2 AnswersInjuries8 years agoCrysis 1 anyone help me troubleshoot a strange feature?
Sorry to ask about Crysis once again as it is getting a little old now but I bought Crysis 1 and 2 off of the Steam Summer sale and I had a few issues right from the start and still have some of these, with Crysis 1. Crysis 2 played perfectly without a hitch.
The problems with Crysis 1 got worse and ended up with me not even being able to play the game. I did get that fixed and can now play the game but I noticed a few hitches when I started playing again a few days ago.
I am playing the game on my laptop and plays almost 100% on full settings and the other issue were a slight frame rate drop periodically that resolved itself almost instantly so it looked like a small step every now and again.
Now I wasn't worried about this because lets be honest I'm playing Crysis on full settings and on a laptop, so I'm not going to complain about a couple of slight problems with frame rate.
My issue is that when I dropped the settings down from full to minimum (Don't quite know why I chose to do this but hey I did it anyway) I noticed that the problem was still there. Now surely that isn't right. And the fact that it did this makes me think that it is a problem with the game and not my laptop.
If the problem was my laptop reaching the end of its power to play the game surely by turning down the settings the gameplay can only go up? Seems logical and it is what happens on most other games I've ever come across.
Anyone who can tell me what the hell is going on here? Just seems really strange to me. I wasn't playing anything in the background either at this stage so it can't have been something interfering in the background.
