  • cost of building a garage?

I'm looking into building a garage and I am wondering what it would roughly cost me for materials including foundation..

I plan on building it myself because A. I was a carpenter for over 25 years and a good one too.

    B. trying to keep cost down. Not being in the trades now for over 10 years I don't have any idea what it would cost.

Ideally I'm looking at a 24x38 3 bay with attic storage perhaps at minimum an 8 or greater pitch roof.

Does anybody have an idea what the ballpark price would be? How much per square foot? I know much of it depends on how elaborate I want to get but just a basic structure with T-111 for siding.

  • Which anti virus software is best?

I am getting a new laptop and it comes with a 4 year subscription of McAfee. I've never heard good things about this software. I've been running Microsoft essentials on my older machine. It worked fine for a long time but recently I've gotten a file that it won't remove. It's windows maximizer. It gets detected as a crouped file and and essentials will not remove it. In any case Would it be a good idea to replace McAfee with essentials?

  • SBC 350 failed main bearing?

I have a fairly new rebuilt SBC 350 with a street performance cam.

It just started to make a knocking noise and it sounds like it comes from the bottom end. She runs real good don't hear this at idle and go's away at higher rpms.

It doesn't do it cold but as she warms up and I raise the idle to about 1200 rpms and hold it there it's a definite noise sorta like a ball peen hammer rapping on metal. Not a ticking or pinging but more like a clanging. Not a pleasant sound for sure.

I've read that if I change the oil to a heavier grade it might help. I'm willing to try this before I yank the engine and tear it down, (bummer).

This engine only has about 3 or 4 thousand miles on it and currently running 10w30. What would be a suitable oil? is 50 weight too heavy?

If it turns out I do need to yank the engine, can I replace the bearings without tearing the entire engine apart? With the description I gave, does it even sound like it's a bearing? I'm bummed.

  • Looking for new or used auto body parts for a 62 Impala?

Hello fellow enthusiast. I am in the process of restoring a 1962 Chevy Impala 2dr cp. This is a low budget project and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a left front fender for my project. I will consider a new one but a good used one will do just fine.

  • Wondering if there is a way to adjust headlights on a 2007 Toyota Camry?

On our 07 Camry the headlights suck on low beams. They do not shine high enough to see clearly at night. It's like they shine in a horizontal pane and it go's from light to dark right at eye level. It's a strait line from light to dark. You can see this when I pull up to the garage door how it's a strait line and don't radiate high enough. They are very poor. I have already cleaned and polished the plastic lens with a kit but still they suck.

Anyway I looked but could not find a way to adjust the aim of the headlights. Does anyone know if they can be adjusted a bit?

I saw someone I know has fog lights on his Camry and they are so bright, brighter than the headlights, blinding bright. I don't want to go that route.

  • Need to know what Indian foods are good?

My wife and I will be traveling to India soon and will be there for a couple of weeks.

Myself I have no idea what the food will be like. It's got me worried!!! Just like a Chinese menu, I never know what I'm ordering.

Being a meat and potato man what would one recommend that won't turn my stomach? I can take some spice but not in everything I eat. I'm planning on packing lots of snack bars just in case.

I checked out some foods online and it all looks like goop. Curry this and curry that even in the deserts for crying out loud. PLEASE HELP

  • I want to rebuild my control arms on my 1962 Impala. Looking to purchase spring compressor.?

I need to rebuild the control arms on my 62 Chevy Impala. Searching for cheap spring compressor cuz I'll probably never use that again. Are strut compressors the same tool as what I would need for this job? Seems that most what I look at indicates strut removal spring compressor. Will this work for me? I see there are several types but I think they will all do the same thing Just nor sure.

  • MSD street fire HEI ditributor?

HI, I just picked up a "used" MSD street fire HEI distributor. The one with the coil pack on the dist cap.

First question, can I use the vac advance from the stock distributor? It's the only thing missing .

I got this for cheap, $30 to be exact. I want to install it on my SB 350 with Edlebrock performer intake and carb.

Second question, will this improve performance? It's already fast. Will it be worth the effort?

  • I have a lump in my upper inner thigh?

I am a 55 yo male and I have this lump in my inner thigh that worries me some. I've been to my family doctor and mentioned it to her. She felt it and didn't seem to think I had anything to worry about. I think she said it was an artery that was close to the surface.

It's about the size of my little finger and just a tad sore. Just enough to make me aware it's there.

I want to get a second opinion but not sure which kind of doctor to go to.

  • Speedometer problem in my 1962 Chevy impala doesn't work at all.?

I have a 1962 Chevy Impala with a TH350 tranny in it. I swapped it from a three speed to the 350 when I did an engine swap. With the original tranny the speedometer did not work. I replaced the cable and still didn't work. When I installed the TH350 it worked but bounced around allot and then stopped working. I disconnected the cable at the tranny and hooked up my drill to it and it worked fine, then I reconnected it at the tranny and made sure it was keyed in properly and the cable housing fit like it should up against the threaded part. Still doesn't work. Is there a gear in the tranny that could be bad? and if so is it an easy fix?

  • I want to eliminate a generator and voltage reg to install an alternator in my 62 Impala?

I have recently replaced the engine in my 1962 Impala. Originally it had a generator and external voltage regulator. What do I need to do with the wires at the old voltage regulator and the old generator wires too? Do I simply disconnect all the wires and tape them off or is there more to it?

The new alternator I have a large red wire and a brown wire in the plastic connector. From the battery I hooked up a 10 gage wire to the back of the alternator lug bolt. Also I pigtailed the red wire from the plastic connector with this wire. The brown wire I think is for the idiot light but I will be installing a volt meter instead. Does this sound correct?

Also I need to know if I pick up the feed for the HEI dist from the starter solenoid as if it was like the old points and coil?

  • Wondering if I still need to use a voltage regulator in my 1962 Chevy?

I am doing an engine swap in my 1962 Impala. I am taking out a dead in-line 235 with the old generator.

I was going to use the generator but finding out that mounting it on a 1977 SBC 350 is not easy without having to make all sorts of brackets. So I've decided to go with the alternator that was mounted on the 350 but not sure how to rewire from the 62 impala. Does the Alt have a built in voltage regulator?

If so I'm sure the wiring is not too difficult but I'm not sure how. Can anyone help me with any sort of information on this. I knew from the beginning of this project that it would be a Challenge but realizing that there is a lot more to it then "it'll bolt right in" is what everybody said. This is my first engine rebuild and I can't wait to here this bad boy run.

  • Need information on fel-pro gasket set?

I am rebuilding a SBC 350 and I have a Fel-Pro gasket set # ks2600. I know that I don't need all the gaskets they include but there is one I'm not sure of. It looks like a nylon flat washer. Reading the contents list it say's that there is a oil pump shaft retainer. The oil pump I have came with two plastic sleeves that I know lock the shaft together. What would this plastic washer be used for? Need to know before I get ahead of myself. Perhaps I just toss it over my shoulder I don't know. Hate to do that though. The list on the carton doesn't quite correspond with the contents. Say's it has an oil drain plug seal but not in there unless this part that I'm questioning is for the drain plug. Never seen a plastic one. This little part is holding me up on getting this bad boy fired up.

  • Looking for correct head bolt torque for a SBC 350?

I am presently rebuilding a SBC 350. I have already installed the heads with a finish torque of 70lbs. From a cheat sheet someone gave me with torque specs it said to torque first at 25lbs and then 45lbs and final at 70lbs. Is this correct or do I need to take it apart and start over with what I'm being told is 40, 55, 70. If I have to redo will the head gaskets be any good and do I need to reseal the bolts that enter the water jacket? I'm hoping it's okay as is.

Also I'm wondering if the new oil pump has to be opened and prelube or do I just run it with a drill to prime and pressurize the system.

  • SBC engine mounts for a 62 Impala?

I am doing an engine swap in my 62 Impala. I am going from a strait 6 to a 350 SBC. I understand I need to replace the mounts on the engine but do I have to replace the mount's on the frame. What are those called? Towers, saddles or what? I don't know what to look for. Anytime I look for engine mount it always comes up with the part you bolt onto the engine block and nothing is said about the part bolted to the frame. Will I have to replace these as well?

  • 350 turboglide transmission any good?

I have a GM automatic 350 turbo glide transmission that has been sitting for about 6 years. I got it with the engine I bought sbc 350. I dumped a bunch of money into the engine in a rebuild/upgrade and want to possibly install this into my 62 Impala. What are the chances of this tranny being any good? The matching engine only had about 60k for mileage. I'm tapped out on funds for a bit and wondering if this is worth installing without a rebuild. Of coarse I would do a fluid and filter change.

  • Need information on GM manual bellhousing?

I have a GM Aluminum Bellhousing that came off a truck Cast # is 6263756. Can I use this on my 1962 Impala with a three speed transmission? I am doing an engine swap going from an in-line 235 to a sbc350. I found this bellhousing at a swap meet for cheap but not certain it will work. I do know the hole is larger then it should be but I believe the bolt pattern is the same.. Is there a filler ring made to retro fit this?

  • 2 part question. What is a fair price to have a 350 small block rebuilt?

I'm curious as to how much I would have to spend (ball park) to have a 1975 350 sb rebuilt? I picked up an engine and trans for dirt cheap and want to use it for my 62 Impala. I was told it runs and I hope it does but I'm prepping myself for worse case scenario. I'm not looking to beef it up at all, I just want it to run decent.

Second question. Will a fly wheel from a strait 235 chevy work on this 350?
