Well here you have it. I'm a 19 year-old college student. And as if that's not enough, you should believe everything I tell you because, A) my SAT was 1580 (of 1600), B) I'm Portuguese, and C) I love narwhals.
Can I get into Paris museums for free?
I'm going to Paris for a week and most museums there have a provision that EU residents under 26 can get in for free.
I'm 20 and I'm an American student living in Spain with a student visa. Does having this visa qualify me to get into these places for free? It could save me some serious euros!
5 AnswersParis9 years agoSpelling a Portuguese word?
When I was little and acted silly, there was a word my Portuguese grandma would always call me. I'm not sure how to spell it or what the actual English translation is, but my best guess would be "pedurca" or "paderca."
I know nothing about Portuguese spelling conventions--does anyone know what this word is and how to spell it?
4 AnswersLanguages10 years agoWhich Shins album should I buy?
They're a band I've always liked but never actually bought music from... anyways today I got an iTunes card and I want to get either "Oh, Inverted World" or "Wincing the Night Away." Anybody own one or both and can recommend one over the other?
4 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhy are these two Monet paintings different?
This is one of my favorite paintings, since my mom had a print hanging in our house when I was a little girl. I decided I wanted to practice my oil painting and remake it myself, but I've found two versions of it on the internet that are slightly different:
Version One: http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~rfoon/images/...
Version Two: http://www.in-arts.net/images/Poppies_Blooming_.jp...
The color is brighter in one, but that's not my question. In version two, it seems that a big horizontal stripe has been completely taken out of the painting -- you can tell by watching the shape of the largest tree get squished down from its rounder shape in version one. The squished version is the one I remember my mom having.
What's going on here? Which one is the original? Or did he paint two? Does anybody know for certain?
1 AnswerPainting1 decade agoWho can help me pronounce this? It's an emergency!?
On Monday I'm giving a speech in my oral communication class about Santiago Calatrava, and I'm going to be talking about his lovely Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Unfortunately I have no idea how the heck "Quadracci" is pronounced!! My professor will totally nail me for this kind of thing too, plus I'd hate to look like an idiot in front of the whole class. Is it pronounced Quad-ra-see, or maybe Quad-rach-ee (so that it rhymes with "mariachi")? That's probably my best guess, but I really don't know. Thanks!!!!

18 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoGoing to college for architecture - Will I really die?
So I'm accepted into the school I wanted. I'm a good student - a GREAT student, actually, if we're going to throw modesty aside here. I've always put school first. I also love art and I'm good at that, too -- I really hate bragging about myself like this but I'm being honest because want an honest answer. Sorry! :(
The only problem is that I've heard such awful things about architecture school that I'm scared sh*tless!!! I'm starting college in only one week and I don't know what to do -- yes, I'm prepared to work very hard, have no life, all that hellish stuff I've heard, etc. but I'll only do it if there's a CHANCE I can succeed! In high school I always found all my hard work rewarding. So please tell me honestly -- do talented, hardworking students fail and suffer miserably while trying to get a degree in architecture?
(On a side note, I used my AP credit from high school to exempt calculus, and now my university's program has absolutely ZERO further math classes required for my degree. Is it unheard of to get an architecture degree with no math classes? Seems a little too good to be true. I mean, this is a good, accredited school and everything.)
5 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoShould I get a cartilage ear piercing?
I'm turning 18 and want to assert my independence with a cartilage piercing I'm not supposed to get, woohoo! I do want to do my research though, so I have a few questions:
1) [obviously] How bad is the pain, before and after?
2) Is one ear socially preferred over the other, left or right?
3) What's it look like when the earring is out? Gigantic hole, or not very noticeable? (I'm thinking for employment purposes, and of course hiding it from my family as well.)
Thanks!!
8 AnswersOther - Skin & Body1 decade agoWhat am I supposed to do about fire-ant bites?
So I was washing my car yesterday and got absolutely MAULED when I stepped in an anthill... I now have two questions. One, what am I supposed to do now about those little white bubbles, pop them? And two, I've heard that you get more allergic as you get more exposed to certain things. I've been frequently bitten before, and now I have five bites, so am I going to have a more severe reaction next time? (along the lines of dropping unconscious to the ground and writhing in the dirt, etc?)
2 AnswersFirst Aid1 decade agoWhy can't God do EVERYTHING?
So, according to the Bible, the reason God has to send people to Hell is that "the wages of sin is death," right? Sin is apparently the one thing that stands between us and God, who wants to love us and considers himself our heavenly father.
What I want to know is why can't God just forgive everyone and take them all to heaven when they die? He's GOD!!!
This is really my one qualm with Christianity - I can't imagine a God who would send his "children" to Hell. What do you Christians think about this?
